I thought seeing as our other thread has gone somewhere into the oblivion that is old MN pages, I would start us up again anew for a new term. This is a place for those who are Christians (and anyone who's not, we're not an exclusive little club) Grin to chat about life, theology, church, any other stuff and of course Graham Kendrick, as nickel would not forgive me if I forgot to mention him Grin

So all welcome, old and new, it would be fun to chat and chew over anything that comes to mind. Lurkers say hello!

Anyone got a nice juicy topic to get the ball rolling then? Or if not come say hi anyway and tell us how you are doing. :)

Yes, you know we keep ourselves alive by feasting on our visitors Grin

nickelbabe · 16/02/2013 22:55

bit worried about seeing NV tomorrow after sending off my rant.
goping he hasn't read it yet! Shock

jaynebxl · 17/02/2013 07:02

runs away gibbering!

jaynebxl · 17/02/2013 07:09

Was just reading back a few pages and saw someone mentioned the 40 Acts thing. Are any of you doing it? We are and my kids have really got into it.

MaryBS · 17/02/2013 08:24

I've looked at in Jayne, but find some of it a bit unrealistic "buy someone a holiday"???

jaynebxl · 17/02/2013 08:29

Haha hmm! Last year we did it and kind of picked and chose / adapted a bit but so far this year it is going well. The kids have tidied their bedrooms, written to grandparents and had less screen time, plus it has given us lots to talk about.

thanksamillion · 17/02/2013 09:02

I'm getting the daily emails and reading them(!) but the acts don't necessarily translate very well into rural Moldovan life Grin. Also it's not really lent here because Easter is celebrated according to the Orthodox calendar (even by non-Orthodox) here. But I'm kind of following it!

I think I'm going to print off the wall planner for the DCs and see if I can encourage them to do it

niminypiminy · 17/02/2013 13:30

Nickel how did it go with NV this morning?

I'm doing the Christian Aid Count Your Blessings App - there's a mixture of giving and prayers. This morning the children and I prayed together to say thank you for the blessing of education. (They may be less thankful tomorrow morning when they go back to school though Wink.)

nickelbabe · 17/02/2013 14:16

he's obviously not read it yet because he didn't treat me like a loon Grin
I did my teacher's pet act and offered him a drink when he was getting changed after the service.

he did a lovely sermon, some of which pissed on what I wrote. oopsy.

hiddenhome · 17/02/2013 15:06

Hello?

nickelbabe · 17/02/2013 15:27

of course you can join in hidden :)
lovely to see you here Grin

newbie questions:

the full list is:

happy clappy or traditional?
choir or singing group?
organ or keyboards/bands?
hymn books or screens?
and the important one: do you like Graham Kendrick?

hiddenhome · 17/02/2013 15:38

Err, well......

Traditional
Choir, but we have a singing group at our church Grin
Organ
Hymn Books
I luffs Graham Kendrick and dh went to see him once Grin

I'm a born again Catholic and feeling somewhat insecure 'cos Pope Benedict is retiring

and

Everyone (the priests) is busy and I'm too shy to ask for confession as I have a thing about not asking for stuff or bothering people Blush

Nice to meet everyone Smile

nickelbabe · 17/02/2013 15:47

yeay! someone on my side! apart from gk. that's weird Wink

we're about 50/50 in all aspects here :)

I hope you find the courage to ask a priest for talk soon

MadHairDay · 17/02/2013 17:35

Welcome hidden, we've talked before on a few threads and it's lovely to see you here.

We're going to need a shiny new thread soon. Title ideas anyone? Hideous Hymns, Lovely Vicars and Theatrical Thuribles? (doesn't alliterate though :( )

Just been to a service of another fresh expression church across the town, dh was preaching, was very refreshing though very different too. I'm all in now.

Hello hiddenhome! Really nice to see you Smile. Hope you get to make your confession soon.

nickel pleased it went ok this morning and v pleased about lovely sermon. I think vicars are used to people being seething with unexpressed rants (and sometimes doing their rants in person), but acts of kindness, liking being made a drink, are a much rarer part of their life.

niminypiminy · 17/02/2013 17:36
nickelbabe · 17/02/2013 17:39

I wanted to do it last week but wimped out.

nickelbabe · 17/02/2013 17:41

yy new thread very soon!
the title doesn't have to alliterate, but we can play around. :)

nickelbabe · 17/02/2013 17:44

I struggled to hear some of the sermon cos dd was crying. I thought she was being antsy but I went to feed her jyst in case she was tired. byt it took me ages to get unrobed sufficiently for her to access and she practically screamed the place down. Blush (causing both dh and CW to offer to take her to the tower)

hiddenhome · 17/02/2013 18:01

Our church is full of yelling babies and toddlers, nobody minds. I love seeing littlies in church Smile

There was a lovely Mass in school last week. ds2 was welcomed into the Church and is really chuffed. The atmosphere was so nice and everyone clapped at the end Smile

nickelbabe · 17/02/2013 18:14

yeeeeaaaaahhhh. our church is probably starting to get annoyed with the crying.

to be fair it's a recent thing this week and I don't know what's up with her. I'm hoping a development spurt

nickelbabe · 17/02/2013 18:15

that sounds nice :)

jaynebxl · 17/02/2013 18:20

We haven't been to church today cos we've been to the grandparents for the weekend. Just driving home now. Hmm DH actually driving, not me... I tend not to use the internet when I'm driving Grin

niminypiminy · 17/02/2013 18:45

I was so tired from Sunday School that I had to go to sleep for a couple of hours this afternoon (was up very early too). In my group we had 11 4-9s, among those several who have developmental delays and special needs of various kinds, children who are in very difficult family situations, children who had come to church unaccompanied, children who have only a couple of minutes attention span.

When we came back into church, I spent most of the time getting them to be quiet during communion (ie stop running around, fiddling with CD player, trying to get to the food), then stop them banging the instruments as hard as they could during final hymn, stop play-fighting with the flags etc etc. At least once the service is over they can get to the food (I expect lots of them are coming to church hungry) and then go outside to play.

Tis very tiring!
