I thought seeing as our other thread has gone somewhere into the oblivion that is old MN pages, I would start us up again anew for a new term. This is a place for those who are Christians (and anyone who's not, we're not an exclusive little club) Grin to chat about life, theology, church, any other stuff and of course Graham Kendrick, as nickel would not forgive me if I forgot to mention him Grin

So all welcome, old and new, it would be fun to chat and chew over anything that comes to mind. Lurkers say hello!

Anyone got a nice juicy topic to get the ball rolling then? Or if not come say hi anyway and tell us how you are doing. :)

Congratulations ruck, lovely news, dont beat yourself up about the vestry thing!
Niminy, I do agree with blue. Hang in there in your calling. Wish I could type more but 3G coverage awful and so slow.

Just wanted to pop in and say hello. I am recovering though slower than I'd like - doctor very clear he won't let me home until I'm much better....come on....

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 16/12/2012 16:24

niminy . i say fight too.
there are plenty if parishes that need priests so age shouldn't be that barrier .

puck - congratulations Grin

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 16/12/2012 16:25

ruck .
blooming autocorrect

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 16/12/2012 16:28

mhd i put a star for you on ir church Christmas tree to rush your recovery.
then i did one for all of you. it said to the girls on the thread xxx
Grin
guess who wasn't at church today. Hmm
nay chance of ever doing that solo now.

MaryBS · 16/12/2012 20:57

Thats poor Nickel. Not worth the effort in that case.

We had our Lessons and Carols this evening. I did a reading, my favourite, John 1:1-14 Xmas Smile. We reckon we had about 170 people there

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 16/12/2012 21:57

i was chuffed that this morning 's lectionary reading was the mumsnet reading. "you're a nest of vipers" etc
(Luke 3 something) Grin

i love that john reading too. in the beginning was the word and the word was with god and the word was god. and if i carry on I'll mess it up :)

PandaG · 16/12/2012 22:04

hello all
I did a reading too this morning - Luke 2 2-21. Then it was Carol Service this evening - absolutely fantastic. Continuing to pray for you MHD x

TuoComeOComeEmmanuel · 17/12/2012 01:41

Oh, I love John 1. Actually, come to think of it, I love pretty much all of John.

Nickel... I had the same thought as you at the 'nest of vipers' reading, and had a little smile to myself.

thanksamillion · 17/12/2012 07:05

Grin at there being a mumsnet bible reading!

Thanks for putting a star on the tree for us all nickel and praying for a speedy recovery MHD.

Things are a bit tough here. We're basically snowed in although we managed to get some snow chains yesterday so we might be able to leave the village. We've had major problems with the heating although it looks like that might be sorted today. So it's getting fixed, it just feels like the six weeks we've been here have all been incredibly stressful.

DutchOmainthestable · 17/12/2012 10:36

Bit of an "In the bleak midwinter" feeling Millie? Prayers for a really happy and blessed Christmas.

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 17/12/2012 10:53

milly - i had a feeling you might be snowed in :(

if you get out, buy a freestanding calor gas heater, a month's worth of food and stay at home Grin

(if you have to work thrt's slightly less plausible Wink)

i would love to be snowed in, but only if i didn't have to be anywhere.

dingdongMadHairDayonhigh · 17/12/2012 11:25

Morning

Thanks for all the prayers and thanks for the star nickel! Waiting for another X-ray to see how much the fluid has gone down, then I may have a date for escape, this week I hope. I feel a lot better but have sharp pain round kidney area so bit worried. Waiting to see what doctor says.

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 17/12/2012 12:27

kidney might just be your body flushing out all the crap.

drink plenty of water while you're waiting for the doctor :)

niminypiminy · 18/12/2012 10:50

Hello all

Ruck that's lovely news! But less good that Milly is snowed in - I hope you can get out soon. It sounds like a real struggle at the moment. Nickel, I'm sorry to hear about JC's perfidy (or perhaps it is his mum's). Have you got someone else to do That Solo?

MHD so glad to hear that you are getting better. I'm burning up the prayer wires here that you can get home from hospital soon.

Thank you all for being so supportive about my vocation . I've decided not to think about it over Christmas and leave it to God.

Off this afternoon to see DS2 in his last ever nativity - he has the role of the stable boy which I think it fairly central in the play they're doing. I'm taking lots of tissues!

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 18/12/2012 12:26

oh, we've got a queue round the block for it! Grin
(mainly me and othersoloistlady )

awww, good luck to DS on his nativity :) x

RuckAndRoll · 22/12/2012 09:12

morning everyone Smile
nimity hope you had fun at ds nativity.
the chaotic few days are about to start, christingle messy church this morning, children's nativity in tomorrows service, crib service and midnight mass Monday then the big one Tuesday morning. loving it all Grin.
hope everyone is having a brilliant few days

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 22/12/2012 10:31

JC2 is doing the solo.

he tried it out last night - we spent the whole session on it, so it had descended to pub singing by the end. Xmas Grin

but he was brave and in tune all the way through and sounded lovely when he'd had a break from it.

he's going to be fab, and they'll all go "oooh, isn't JC2 sooooo cute!"
Xmas Grin

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 22/12/2012 10:31

Ruck - i'm exhausted already!

roll on next year when christmas is a wednesday! Xmas Grin

dingdongMadHairDayonhigh · 24/12/2012 12:11

Happy Christmas to you all.

I pray you have a blessed and peaceful time with lots of joy and fun. :)

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 24/12/2012 12:16

and i hope you rest properly over christmas - don't do anything apart from eat and drink (and go to the toilet maybe) and open presents.

talking of which - JC2 did the solo. amazingly well.
stayed in tune all the way through and didn't falter - he went slightly wrong on one word, but he didn't stop or panic, he just carried on. sooo professional Xmas Grin
his mum, dad and sister came to the service and dad was beaming ear to ear Xmas Grin

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 24/12/2012 12:18

and haven't seen or heard from JC1 or his mum for over a week. safe to say i'm assuming they've left (you don't let a choir down at christmas if you're intending to stay)
:(

but i care less than i did.

DutchOmainthestable · 24/12/2012 12:59

No, if you let a choir down at Christmas and expect to be kept on, you are taking the p...

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 24/12/2012 13:02

i agree, Oma, but how do you broach that "you're not allowed back now" without seriously pissing people off?

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 24/12/2012 13:04

I'm thinking that a letter with his outstanding wages saying

"sorry you've left the choir, here are the wages you are owed. good luck with your singing career"

MaryBS · 24/12/2012 13:43

Well done JC2! Nickel, think you're just going to have to "suck it up", being the season of good will. That doesn't mean you have to take him back though. And I think it only fair to point out to them just how let down you feel by their actions!
