I thought seeing as our other thread has gone somewhere into the oblivion that is old MN pages, I would start us up again anew for a new term. This is a place for those who are Christians (and anyone who's not, we're not an exclusive little club) Grin to chat about life, theology, church, any other stuff and of course Graham Kendrick, as nickel would not forgive me if I forgot to mention him Grin

So all welcome, old and new, it would be fun to chat and chew over anything that comes to mind. Lurkers say hello!

Anyone got a nice juicy topic to get the ball rolling then? Or if not come say hi anyway and tell us how you are doing. :)

gosh, it's been busy around here this morning!
my mum and dad turned up at the shop first thing, which was really exciting and shocking at the same time - i think my face went > Confused
Grin

I asked DH how he's goin to broach the subject and he said "i suppose i'll just tell him"

i'm worried because it will probably mean he gets upset, that mum will probably be angry (or at the very least, annoyed and disappointed and stroppy)

CW said that I shouldn't worry about it, because the worst that can happen is that they'll defect to NTC, and if so, then so what? it's no biggie and there's nothing we can do about their reaction.
and she's right.

I think the main reason I'm worried about it is because we talk. I don't think we're "friends" as such, because she has some very different opinions from me, but we're certainly chatting pals, iyswim.
I just don't want to be thought badly of, and I know that's a downfall in my own personality.

dingdongMadHairDayonhigh · 12/12/2012 15:25

Just popping in here to say hope the conversation goes ok and it all works out nickel.

Starting to feel nether. Feel like I've been run over. This has been very scary this time. Has made me think i abie about things. For now. I can't wait to get out. Prob have another week or so in.

dingdongMadHairDayonhigh · 12/12/2012 15:27

Stupid phone

nether - better

abie - a bit

DutchOmainthestable · 12/12/2012 15:58

I was wondering what feeling 'nether' would feel like, glad you amended it to 'better' I hope you soon feel totally well again.

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 12/12/2012 16:38

mhd - i saw your update on FB.
glad you're feeling better, but sorry it's such a slow process. :) :(

I can imagine it must be really worrying and

Bluetinkerbell · 12/12/2012 19:13

mhd wish I could come and visit! When you're back at home, I'll come round with Lotta so you can have a cuddle! :)

Been to my vocations adviser for the last time today... She's sending off my paperwork to the DDO tomorrow. She gave me some nice compliments today after reading through my papers. Blush she said there would be a lot of churches wanting me as a priest and that I am the missing link in church.
She said I'm definitely ready to continue in the process, she said I wasn't 6 months ago, but I'm in a much better place now. She also said that if all goes well, i could quite possibly go to college next September! Eeek! So exciting

niminypiminy · 13/12/2012 14:20

Wow, Blue that is wonderful news! Very exciting!

At my last meeting with the DDO she mentioned a BAP in time for me to start training next year ... my journey's been very up and down so far, but this is a definite up!

DutchOmainthestable · 13/12/2012 15:14

What is a BAP if it isn't a bread roll?

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 13/12/2012 15:24

American hit on the head? (bop)

Bluetinkerbell · 13/12/2012 15:27

Bishops Advisory Panel :)

niminypiminy · 13/12/2012 18:13

Sorry Blush forgot in my excitement there not everyone is familiar with the CofE discernment process acronyms. The BAP is where they decide if you can go forward for training for ordination. Goodness knows why they gave it such a stupid name though.

Bluetinkerbell · 13/12/2012 18:47

niminy have you started looking at colleges yet?

niminypiminy · 13/12/2012 22:42

No, because of my age I couldn't be sponsored to train full time. I will have to train part time and do non-stipendiary ministry. It's not what I would have chosen, but it's what I'm going to do.

TuoComeOComeEmmanuel · 13/12/2012 23:09

Nickel... You made me laugh, because you reminded me of two years ago when we were in the US, when we went to hear 'The Messiah'. Lovely singing (though DD2 fell asleep and awoke with a huge jolt to 'The Trumpet Shall Sound'!), but in 'I know that my Redeemer liveth' the pronunciation was very definitely '... and in the flesh shall I see Gaaaaaaaaaaahd', and DD1 got the giggles because the whole time we'd been there they'd been practising saying the pledge of allegiance (which features the phrase 'one nation under Gaaaaaahd', and had to be repeated every day before school) in more and more outrageous American accents and it sounded just like that. Oh dear! What with DD1 giggling and DD2 snoring, I'm not sure my attempt to expose them to 'Culture' was all that successful! Xmas Blush

Blue and Niminy - excellent news. I'm so pleased.

Bluetinkerbell · 13/12/2012 23:39

Don't let your age play a role! My MIL trained full time and was recommended for incumbency and a stipend in diocese of Ely and she's 58! If your bishop is supportive anything can happen!

MaryBS · 14/12/2012 08:53

And getting Ely to part with a stipend is no mean feat! Xmas Grin

niminypiminy · 14/12/2012 11:04

Oh, Blue, getting to the point where I could give up what I wanted was so painful that I'm not sure now I have the heart to go back and fight for it ...

LiftUpYourGingerHeadsOYeCurls · 14/12/2012 11:35

Hello ladies. This cheered me up so much this morning.

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 14/12/2012 11:45

oh, that's wonderful!!
Xmas Grin

she was really enjoying singing that!
and the little boy in blue was a treasure [awwwwww]

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 14/12/2012 11:50

DH did a practice with JC1 last night.
he went through the descants and some other stuff and todl him he wasnt doing the solo for 9 lessons.

but told him that he might be able to do it at midnight if put the work in Hmm

so basically, "you can't do the solo you want the1st time it's done, but you can the 2ndtime"
so he still gets what he wants.

and guess what? he won't be at practice tonight because he's singing christmas carols for yet another choral society.
so, no lessons learned there then. :(Hmm

Bluetinkerbell · 14/12/2012 12:18

niminy I'm so sorry you feel like that! I just think it's not too late... If you feel called to do full time stipendiary ministry, then tell them! Who says you can't?

RuckAndRoll · 16/12/2012 09:04

I've been awoke for a bit recently. life got really chaotic! what with trying to finish off stuff at work, starting on vestry, oh and finding out I'm pregnant! Grin
hope everyone is enjoying advent. I'm feeling really guilty as I took on a 4 year term on vestry but then found out about the baby so won't be able to do it all properly.

RuckAndRoll · 16/12/2012 09:07

awoke?! I meant awol!
