I forget how old the other children are lost. I once walked out on the children when they were 12 and 8 and when I got back they had made their sandwiches and were peacefully eating them at the garden table on the patio.
A bit of refusing to engage in verbal battle can be effective too. Just saying that you are not going to say another word on the matter and then firmly shutting your mouth and not speaking on the subject any more.
Things like this can be such a vicious cycle, the only consolation is that if you have the battle now you may not have it by the time they are teenagers. Here's hoping.

lostmywellies · 26/05/2012 11:07

That would be lovely, DO - I shall hope for that! DH is back this afternoon although his presence rarely means much of a rest and we are going out for dinner tonight to celebrate our 11th anniversary today! With any luck we'll actually enjoy this one - so many anniversaries in previous years have coincided with my not wanting to be anywhere near him!

Goodness me, all those exclamation marks. It is lovely weather, isn't it? I'd better head back into the garden to suncream the dcs. (They're 8, 6, 4 and 2, by the way.) This morning with dd1 it was like nothing had ever happened, too - I think we parents remember the emotional storms much longer than children do.

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 26/05/2012 11:29

that boy is having a meltdown because he wants to wear a vest and tights and will not get dressed without them and is kicking and screaming. and taking them off as soon as they are on. he has been banished to his cot so that every one can keep calm. I managed to dess hi yesterday by sittingon him yesterday and have sat on him to get the top half dressed today. he has not learnt to undress himself yet. just taking a mo to calm down before i get everything else ready to go. and then tackle ds again.

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 26/05/2012 22:24

been praying for weegie for meds to work, for lost and tea that children would go to bed well.

space costume is sewn together. the sewing machine has come home with me. there are now 3 of them in the hall plus a bin, a chair, a folded up high chair, a pile of post and a bag of compost which is quite a feat as it is only a passageway. elastic has to be put in and legs and arms turned up as they have been made with growing room.

jubuilee flags and crowns have to be made tomorrrow and presents wrapped, cards written and a party attended. h is coming to see the children.. so I will jhave some time to sew.

I am just taking a break after arriving home late and getting dd to bed. ds is asleep in the hall in the baby car seat. Shock he is still very fond of it. Confused he needs to have a wash/bath after being in the garden. oh and can I withdraw the not learnt to get undressed comment as granny found him starkers when playing upstairs.

and a yay for not changing a nappy/pullups all day and they came home in the same clothes they went in.

weegiemum · 26/05/2012 22:45

Good news! While I was sitting in the garden enjoying a chilled glass of Rose this evening, I realised I could feel the cold glass! My treatment is starting to make a real difference!! It wears off after a couple of weeks but at the moment it's done some real good. In fact, I made a pasta bake yesterday, chopped 2 onions, a pepper and some mushrooms and fried them up with bacon without burning myself, AND made toasted sandwiches on the George foreman grill thing for lunch today! Praise the Lord for immunoglobulins, and the 30 people per bottle who gave their blood to make them!

On the downside we're really struggling with dd1. She's 12, goes to high school in august and her attitude and temper tantrums are frightening. She shrieked and cried herself into a full blown panic attack today, cos someone looked at her when she didn't want them to! The entire episode lasted 2 hours and wore us all out. Please pray for peace for her, there's been a lot on with my illness and moving house, but her behaviour today was unacceptable, but she can't see that, of course!

Tuo · 26/05/2012 22:53

Hello all!

Fantastic news, Weegie, about feeling the cold glass. Something we'd all take for granted, yet such a big thing when you can't do it. Praying for your dd. The transition to secondary school is such a big scary thing, isn't it? But, if it's any consolation, the thinking about it beforehand was much worse than the reality. Indeed, my dd1, who struggled to fit in at primary (I wouldn't say she was bullied; just that some kids did like to point out how weird 'different' she was), has been really happy this year at secondary school. (She'd be the same age as your dd1, but they start a year earlier in England.)

Respect to you for all your sewing, BES. I wouldn't know where to start. And a HUGE yay for dry/clean nappies/pull-ups. Praying you get everything you need to get done tomorrow done (sounds frantic).

Praying for patience and peace in the lost family, and for a wonderful anniversary dinner.

Praying that amber is having a relaxing weekend. Take care of yourself, amber.

And prayers to all the lovely people on this thread. I think about you all a lot!

Teaandcakeplease · 27/05/2012 08:40

Reading and praying.

My DD is only 4. But I do find the book called "how to talk so your kids will listen and listen so your kids will talk" or similar a great book. I was hoping it would be a real help when she became older

DS seems to be doing well on potty training in the last 4 days. I truly hope we've turned a corner now. He's 3.4 I was hoping he'd be done long before now but every time I tried, it was accident after accident. He still isn't pooing on the potty but wees are going very well. Only one accident yesterday.

LM as ever, I am thinking and praying for. Like the persistent widow in the bible.

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 27/05/2012 10:41

hi tea, ds was there with wee, but had the odd accident in pull ups. he has only just got the pooing in the potty thing two weeks ago, but it has come really quickly. (one worrry for school eased) it was really easy, probably as I waited so long! did get fed up of the comments though!

DutchOma · 27/05/2012 10:44

Yes, that how to talk book is brilliant. It was too late for me, only saw it a few years ago, but thought how wonderful it would have been. It still works with the grandchildren though.

Please pray that we will indeed have a bed tomorrow in the Brompton, Bob is struggling so much, it would be devastating if we couldn't go this week as, of course, next week is the Jubilee weekend.

MaryBS · 27/05/2012 18:18

Prayers for Bob.

We are off to DD's confirmation shortly... prayers for all those being baptized and confirmed...

SESthebrave · 27/05/2012 19:14

Praying...

DO - for both you and Bob and specifically that there will be a bed

Mary - for DD's confirmation. Also all those being baptised & confirmed at this time. It was confirmation for about 30 youngsters in our parish this afternoon too :)

TACP - for LM, that his situation will resolve and for your relationship. Also prayers for ongoing success with potty training!

weegie - for continued benefits from your treatment and also for DD1.

BES - hope H's visit went ok and the costumes are working out ok.

Lost - prayers of thanks for your anniversary and I hope DH's home coming has gone well.

Also remembering Amber, Jan, FoD, MHD, Jaffa, Juggling, PA and TUO

All ok here. Due date today but nothing happening!

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 27/05/2012 19:51

dd was thrilled with her space costume. one more to go. crown being made now. flag needs to be designed too to hand in tomorrow. dd is currently putting black spots onto her cotton wool ermine and herr fingers

Bluetinkerbell · 27/05/2012 20:03

prayers of thanks for the lovely sunny weather and a very enjoyable holiday last week! :)

Our lovely Zebedee cat has been missing since Thursday night, so prayers for him returning home quickly would be appreciated!

Praying for everyone as I read through

thejaffacakesareonme · 27/05/2012 20:22

BES - you are a much better mummy than me.

Prayers for all as I read through. I really hope they have a bed at the Brompton DO. Weegie - fantastic news you could feel the glass. Prayers for your continued treatment. Prayers also for LM, lost cats and jubilee costumes

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 27/05/2012 21:39

glad of the prayers... off to measure and cut and see whether I need to do an emergency dash to the material shop tomorrow or whether I can squeeze enough fabric out of the material for a lovely skirt. i shall be praying as i work.

ses, are you doing a labour thread or are you whizzing off the the hospital as fast as you can go.

Tuo · 28/05/2012 02:17

Sending 'hurry up and be born' messages to SES-the-youngest, and - more seriously - prayers for a safe arrrival and easy VBAC labour to SES.

Praying like mad for a bed at the Brompton for Bob, DO... I so hope that this will make him a bit more comfortable. Also praying that transport is unproblematic for you.

Prayers for the safe return of Bluetinkerpuss... He's probably just showing his displeasure at you daring to go away!

Praying that Mary's dd's confirmation went well, and for anyone who was baptised and/or confirmed today (and in this season).

And praying for successful costume-making by BES, the Queen of Crafts.

And for all who need prayers tonight.

Bluetinkerbell · 28/05/2012 08:36

Thanks for the prayers! Zebedee turned up this morning! With a sore throat from miawing (sp?) so we think he must have been trapped somewhere. Very happy he is back though we had lots of cuddles already!

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 28/05/2012 13:00

great news blue.

the latest installment in the saga of the costumes...

mums sewing machine trips the electric circuit breaker! I am hand sewing as rapidly as I can. cut the pattern and hemmed 3/4 of an edge and going to get going again while ds plays. will be praying as I sew...

hope bob got a bed, do.

gingercurl · 28/05/2012 14:43

Haven't been posting lately but am lurking and praying for everyone.

madhairday · 28/05/2012 18:12

Not been around last few days - not been too well at all. Been praying as I've read through - great news blue that Z Cat is back and pleased DO is at the Brompton.

I went to see my consultant again and she is concerned so arranged for another bronchoscope (ouch, they hurt) and another CT scan to see if any more damage. She is very proactive and caring too, so nice when doctors are like this and don't fob you off. :) I have however to come off all my antibiotics to get a clear scope so that may not be good, prayers appreciated.

Just upgraded our camping outfit from a trailer tent to a folding camper so very excited about going camping soon and being a bit more comfortable. I'm tahnkful to God for this as he has made it possible. Sometimes his generosity overwhelms me :)

prayers and love to all.

gingercurl · 28/05/2012 22:13

Could do with some prayers. Am finding ds very challenging and keep loosing my rag with him. Sad I need to be gentler him but seem incapable to stop myself shouting at him BlushSadShock. Not good. Not good at all. Sad

weegiemum · 28/05/2012 23:09

I'm doing really well, this last lot of treatment has left me mobile round a supermarket and I have feeling in my palms, thumbs and forefingers!!

Mil arrived this evening.,please pray I get on with her ok. I normally am ok, but it's normally at her house!! it's very important to dh that we get on.

Also, can you continue to pray for dd1. School was "crap" today but I can't get any more from her!

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 28/05/2012 23:51
Shock
redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 29/05/2012 07:44

just resited a press stud....

SESthebrave · 29/05/2012 09:32

Morning!

BES - I think that's dedication from you re outfits!

weegie - prayers of thanks and also for MIL visit

gingercurl - prayers for you and DS. How old is he?

MHD - prayers for you and your treatment

Blue - thanks for the safe return of your cat. How is he doing now?

DO - prayers that all is going well at The Brompton.

Not sure if I'll be doing a live birth thread. I will (unfortunately) be heading off to hospital fairly promptly as its a VBAC and I'm high risk for a number of other reasons. Will have my trusty iPhone with me though. I'm thinking posting may be a good distraction Grin

Now if God will let me be picky, Friday would be a good day... I'd be around for the 20th anniversary mass of one of our priest's ordination on the Thursday then, would hopefully be recovered enough to go to a friend's jubilee party on Sunday and I quite like the idea of a June baby since DS is May and DH is July... That may just be too fussy though!

I'm meeting with one of our priests this morning to try to put together a leaflet to attract a response from anyone that may be interested in receiving baptism / confirmation / first Holy Communion as an adult. Prayers for the meeting and finished leaflet would be appreciated!
