Safe haven chat thread for believers

Starwisher · 04/04/2012 23:45

I thought it be lovely to start a" safe haven"thread for all the believers on mumsnet. It doesn't matter what religion or spirituality you are, the important thing is a belief in God or higher power that unites us.

The idea is too talk with other believers to share ideas, thoughts and feelings or even general musings.
So come in and relax!

please can I respectfully ask that this is not a debating thread to challenge people. While I am not the mn police, there are other threads to debate on or please start your own. This is a safe haven

Happy Good Friday all!
Mary If it is any help at all, my friend skipped her confirmation when she was younger, and has just been confirmed at the ripe old age of 34, along with a few other older teenagers and one woman in her 50's! She says she feels it is much more personal between her and God now, rather than as a teenager when she felt it was just 'the thing to do'.

So, so sad that all these young people felt they needed to take their own lives Sad . Poor loves. I will definitely be saying a prayer for young people to day. I think it is much harder being a teenager now than it was 20/30 years ago. So much pressure from the media, and so many more ways to be bullied. I know it is not all bad, but I know a lot of them struggle. Dh is a nurse and he just finished a stint amongst young people (13 - 19) and some of the stories he came home with broke my heart.

SophieNeveau · 06/04/2012 08:37

Good Friday, it is lovely and sunny outside.

I always feel for Jesus taking on the sins, publically humiliated, feeling abandoned.

CheerfulYank · 06/04/2012 08:44

Just marking my place.

I have always known and believed in God since I was a tiny thing, though I was not particularly brought up to. My parents believe in God (though I wasn't sure about that when I was little); my brother does not.

Technically I'm a Lutheran, though I just consider myself generally Christian and, more broadly, just a Deist in general.

I sort of remember a life before this one. Blush

SophieNeveau · 06/04/2012 08:55

Yank, do you mean reincarnation? do tell more if your comfy doing so!

CheerfulYank · 06/04/2012 09:17

I'm really comfortable with it actually :), but I'll be brief because it's 3 a.m. here and also I'm on my phone, which I hate!

When I was really little I would tell my mom that I was forgetting my name "from before" and would ask her to help me remember it. She would tell me i'd always had this name, but I would insisit I hadn't.

I remember...a lot of green. And what it felt like to be old. And I talked about the smell of the ocean long before I'd ever seen it.

Sounds mad and I don't know if I quite believe it...but at the same time, I know what I remember.

mybabyweightiseightyearsold · 06/04/2012 09:43

I've done the Alpha course, and the Christianity Explored course. Quakers isn't a bad idea - there is one here...

And, they've got loooovely furniture. I'm looking for a kitchen...ha ha aha

chipmonkey · 06/04/2012 09:54

Cheerful, I think small children are almost between worlds, sometimes and have better communication with spirits. But they gradually forget.
A couple of months after my Dad died, we were driving down to visit my Mum. We were driving along a hilly section of the route when ds2 who was three just solemnly said "Grandad went over that hill, and he never came back" What he couldn't have known was that my Dad had died on a business trip and had in fact driven over that hill and never come back.

I had been looking at the other babies on FB who were born in November 2011, when dd was due and wondering to myself if she is growing up in Heaven, feeling a bit sad that I won't get to wean her or put her in a baby seat, like the others are doing. Ds4 this morning just said "Mammy, dd is like the other babies. She's grown up" But I hadn't mentioned the other babies to him.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 06/04/2012 10:29

Good Friday :)
Today always makes e quite Sad about the sacrifices made by Jesus too.
Chip I agree that dc are more intuned with spirits, I remember seeing them as a dc but have not since I was about 14.
Just little things like my dog got stuck in an outhouse in very hot weather, was a pekingese so when jumping could not reach the door handle, but sister and I were alerted to the trapped dog by the handle going furiously up and down, I went outside to the window and could see just the dog in there jumping but not reaching the handle.
I also saw our dog walking down the garden after we had had her pts from cancer.
I have had a mc but never had any signs from the baby which saddens me as not a day goes past where I do not think about he/she.

Starwisher · 06/04/2012 10:39

It's funny you say about children sometimes having an insight into things they couldn't possibly know

My eldest dd is 5 and has said some things that came true

My younger dd is 5 months and was due beginning of October. My due date came and went and 2 weeks later I was getting more fed up

Dd came up to me on and said "the baby will be born on a Monday" just out of the blue

Anyway that Sunday I was admitted to hospital to get induced, thinking, well dd was only 1 day out I guess!

However it was a complicated, long birth and Infact dd2 was born the next Monday morning

Good Friday Greetings to everyone [busmile]

Going to take ds2 to a 3pm Passion Service. Have no idea how long it will go on for, but he has permission to take his ipod as I don't want him to become bored. He isn't comfortable with this idea, but it's the best I can come up with. He won't have the sound up. dh is going to sing in the choir at the CofE service.

I have run out of milk and Bertoli spread and I still have the blackbird to look after Hmm

Starwisher · 06/04/2012 11:14

What's the blackbird all about hidden?!

My naughty kitty brought a fledgling in two nights ago and we managed to rescue it, but can't locate the parents. He's in the cat box being looked after until I can find someone with an aviary who can give him some outdoor experience and then go back into the wild. He's outside having fresh air at the moment. He eats cat food, soaked sultanas, ground up bird seed mix stuff and some suet.

Cats are really annoying Hmm

hiddenhome · 06/04/2012 11:21

This thread seems to be doing well and attracting people Starwisher [busmile] Twas a good idea of yours.

Codandchops · 06/04/2012 11:27

Good thread.

I went to the service last night at our church and am attending the Good Friday service this afternoon. Tomorow night is the Easter Vigil and I am being confirmed and received as a Catholic. I can't wait as it will be so special and the culmination of a long spiritual journey for me.

The service last night was beautiful and after it finished the communion as left in a side chapel so that people could sit and pray in silence. Loved it.

hiddenhome · 06/04/2012 11:33

That sounds nice Codandchops Smile I've just returned to the Catholic church and had my first communion a couple of weeks ago. This is a lovely time of year.

SophieNeveau · 06/04/2012 11:33

Star, I had a dream when pregnant with dc2, in it dc1 told me what sex dc would be and what to name dc2. It was a name I had never considered, I was wanting to use it, exdh was v controlling, so it ended up a second name. Dc2 has a school friend who changed their first name by deedpoll, and dc2 would like to change names around to be called by the name in the dream. I am putting it off and hoping dc2 can wait till 16, as it is complicated, as exh has no contact and pr, so would have to go to court to do it at this age.

I was naughtly and went to a psychic who said I had a baby spirit around me and named the baby, it is an unusual name, this psychic didn't know me or anyone. The baby was my sibling, It was the youngest, I the oldest by a great number of years. I always found that quite shocking!

I am just not sure about psychics, I worry about the source of the information is, I think they are probably OK people themselves!

SophieNeveau · 06/04/2012 11:36

Congratulations on receiving your first holy communion hidden.

I am sure you will be blessed with the Holy spirit Cod.

Are you having Fish today?

Does that origionate from the feeding of the five thousand?

hiddenhome · 06/04/2012 11:39

Sophie from what I can gather, Catholics abstain from meat on Fridays and feast days out of respect and not having anything to do with 'flesh'. I'm not quite sure. I think it's just one of those traditions that people follow.

tummytickler · 06/04/2012 11:41

Just back from church, where the choir led the prayers. I love it when the choir leads prayers, it makes it very easy for me to get in a prayerful mood!
Going to have lunch and watch a movie, then dd and I are going to to our local Walk of Witness. Never done it before, but should be moving and thought provoking, and a time to concentrate on the sacrifices Jesus made for us.

I love hearing the stories of messages and signs from our loved ones after death and things children seem to know. There is definitely more to this world than we can ever know.

SophieNeveau · 06/04/2012 11:42

I always feel I should have fish, and I am never sure why, I must have been told why at some point, I just can't remember the reason, I will have a google.

tummytickler · 06/04/2012 11:46

hiddenhome dead/half dead wildlife is definitely an aspect of cat owning I don't miss. Ewww to cleaning up dead animals. Well done for looking after the blackbird!

Cod are you excited about tomorrow? What a special Easter for you this year!

tummytickler · 06/04/2012 11:47

Everybody used to have fish on Fridays didn't they. We don't as we are veggie anyway, but I remember in my family it was always fish on a Friday. I assumed it was because nobody wanted to cook, so they went to the fish and chip shop Grin

itchitch · 06/04/2012 11:51

you all sound so lovely! I can't explain why I feel like crying when I read these words. just filled up out of nowhere! I used to go to church and believe but life took over. what does it mean!

Codandchops · 06/04/2012 11:57

tummy I am SO excited - it feels like my wedding day all over again. My only worry is that it will gfeel like a massive anti-climax afterwards but am hoping to join the choir to help me be part of the community and to grow in faith. [busmile]
