Dear Friends, Whenever I've wandered in here and asked for prayers they've always been answered in so many ways.

This evening I have two requests: first, please pray for the family and children of my exBF (from uni days) who has died. A sweet man: we were together for many years before going our separate ways. I last saw him a couple of years ago but sadly drink/drugs had taken their toll.

I know he is in a better place but I feel enormous sadness that he's gone (even though we were only in occasional contact). My second request - I feel a need to say some formal prayers for him - can anyone recommend a link to some useful text? ATM I'm relying on the best prayer I know which is "Help".

Finally - I've been enormously touched by how kind friends and family have been to me following this news. Amazing.

Thank you
WW

blackeyedsusan · 29/02/2012 20:40

parents evening morning. ds seems to be improving in his behaviour, this week at least.

WW that is very sad indeed. I wonder if you might find it helpful to find an Anglican Prayer book and read through the funeral service, either by yourself or with a friend?
Will you be going to the funeral?

PositiveAttitude · 01/03/2012 06:52

WW Prayers for you and the family of the man who had died. Sorry, I cant help with the formal prayers, I am sure someone will pop along later who will be better placed to point you in the right direction.

Prayers for all you lovely ladies today. Smile

WisteriaWoman · 01/03/2012 07:00

PA and DO - thank you. St Davids
Good idea about checking out the Anglican funeral service.

I knew my "help" prayer would be answered!!
THank you again I feel much better.

DutchOma · 01/03/2012 07:07

Happy St Davids to all.

amberlight · 01/03/2012 07:15

Daffodils mean a huge lot to me and DH. Our first DD died in March 1989. I just wanted to put one daffodil for every year we have been without her.

Prayers for Sylvie, may God wrap her in his love and keep her safe.

Weegie, if it helps your DH, I think he is being called to be "as Christ" to the patients who come to him. A big ask I know. The wonderful thing (one of them) about God is that he came to meet us, in his son. He didn't require that we meet a certain level of excellence. As Paul says "while we were still sinners". God knows that you are sicker than most of the people who go to your DH, but they are still His people and they still need to be cared for. Jesus didn't judge people before he ministered to them - he helped a centurion, a tax collector, a woman of "ill-repute". God is asking your DH to be as gracious as He is. And believe me when I say your DH will be much blessed for it... I really feel that.

madhairday · 01/03/2012 09:24

Praying for Sylvie.

PA - thinking of you and what a lovely idea with the daffodils.

WW - I'm so sorry. There are some prayers here for times of bereavement which may help - some from common worship here Hope you find them of some help.

On tenterhooks today waiting for dd's high school allocation, but that seems trivial really compared to much of other stuff people are going through. sending prayers and love to all.

DutchOma · 01/03/2012 15:06

CD says Sylvie is over the worst but they are keeping her in for a few days for tests and observation.

AspirantPirate · 01/03/2012 15:55

That's good news about Sylvie. Prayers for her continued recovery.

PA - thinking of you too.

WW - I'm not great with formal prayers, but you have my informal ones for both yourself and the family of your ex-BF.

MHD - any news yet?

For me.... exams start tomorrow. I have packed up all my revision for tomorrow's papers as there is nothing left I can do now before the boys get home from school. It should be fine, but any prayers going spare would be very gratefully received. I so want to do well so that I can go on and do the work that I feel God has steered me towards.

AspirantPirate · 01/03/2012 17:04

And I could really have done without DS3 (5) arriving home from school with blood spurting out of his nose Hmm

Would it be wrong to pray for a large gin? Confused

madhairday · 01/03/2012 18:53

Poor DS3, AP! And gin is good Wine

Got good news - dd got her 2nd choice which we are more than happy with, most of her friends will go there and she can get the bus from the top of our road, it seems a great school. 1st choice was a selective grammar with only 50 places, hundreds applied so never much chance of that one!

weegiemum · 01/03/2012 20:33

Praying for all as much as I canGrin

I got a diagnosis today - I have CIDP or chronic inflammatory Demyelinating polyneuropathy. It does what it says on the tin. About 30 people (one in 2 million) get it every year in the UK.

Trying not to be too cross with God but I am. Asking "why me?" is pointless and a bit petty but I can't quite help it. It's not fair

Mainly I'm Sad so much has gone.

MarynotBeSarcastic · 01/03/2012 21:51

Actually weegie, you have every reason to be cross with God. Its being honest about your feelings, no need to pretend, our God has broad shoulders. I've gone into church and SCREAMED at unfairness, sobbed my heart out and resisted temptation to trash the place. But when all energy runs out, our God is there, saying "I'm still here, I can take it". Hugs and prayers, for you, and for your family also.

blackeyedsusan · 01/03/2012 23:48

I am with mary... it is not fair.

see what I can remember...

chronic: long lasting
demyelinating... removal of myelin sheath on the nerve cells. myelin is needed fo some reason I don't think I ever did understand to allow the electric impulse to travel up the nerve.
poly.. many
neuro.. nerve..

that was impressive stomping weegie... try not to kick the door though whilst stomping... it hurts... not that I havedone it of course, oh no. phew! anyone else think it's a bit hot in here?

weegiemum · 02/03/2012 02:39

It's not fair and worryingly it's got worse. Inside of thighs and groin area are numb. Dh tried it on this evening and I couldn't feel it - but I could last week .

I'm phoning the hospital tomorrow, just as soon as I get home from taking dd2 for her brace fitting at the dental hospital. My next treatment is last week in march, they might bump it up cos of this.

blackeyedsusan · 02/03/2012 07:50

oh dear. good luck with phoning the hospital.
