Spring into Summer - Christian Prayer Thread

It always amazes me to see the range of things we pray for: from praying for people with cancer at the one end of the range to praying for a lost telephone. With difficult mothers-in-law, marital difficulties and unfeeling fellow Christians all wrapped up in it somewhere.
And knowing with joyful certainty that God hears us all, that no request is too frivolous for Him and that He loves to hear our prayers.
So, I just want to pick out a few highlights to keep our prayers focussed:
We pray for Amberlight and Sweetestthing who are dealing with cancer. We commit the two of you to the care of our Lord and look forward to you sharing your progress with us. We are here for you, knowing how important praying friends are ? there is scientific evidence for this.

Then, there are a few of us struggling with health issues:- Madhairday and Gingercurl?s sister. I would also like to mention my dh, Bob, here. I so value your prayers because I find it very difficult to pray for myself and for him when the going gets tough.

BlackeyedSusan and Teaandcakeplease are both dealing with the break-up of their marriage and bringing up their children on their own. We pray for strength and also for the undivided support of the churches they belong to. Especially in BES? case we could wish for a bit more understanding.

With CazandBelle we rejoice over the latest scan and pray for peace of mind for the rest of the pregnancy. Do share your feelings with us Caz, if you are able.

PositiveAttitude brought two prayer requests concerning her dds. Dd2 was in a car crash a few weeks ago and really needed another car. Wonderfully, her boyfriend was able to come to her rescue. And dd3 lost her phone on a trip that was a miracle in itself after her recent illness. Here again, prayer was answered and a new phone supplied.

Dippy, we love you, thanks for prompting us to do a new summary. We grieve with you over the loss of friends, but rejoice over birthday parties and broody chickens.

Let?s pray.

Prayers Blue, for strength and peace for you to get through this day.

Amber - prayers for you and your situation.

MHD ((hugs)) I hope last evening was a special time making lots of memories to take with you.

thejaffacakesareonme · 23/07/2011 08:49

Blue - prayers for you and your family today.

Amber and MHD - praying today is a bit better.

SweetestThing · 23/07/2011 12:20

Blue, praying for you as you say your goodbyes to darling Sterre.

Praying for everyone else - that Amber and MHD have woken up to better days and that we all feel our problems and worries are known to God, who will give us comfort and strength.

MaryBS · 24/07/2011 08:46

Hope you are OK Blue, and that yesterday wasn't too difficult.

Lovely prayer from Taize email I receive:

"Christ Jesus, you want happiness for us and you suffer today with all those throughout the world who are afflicted. Every human life is infinitely precious in your sight. And through the presence of the Holy Spirit you say to our heart: ?You too are a beloved child of God and you will be so for all eternity.?"

1 day to go before our new priest is licensed...

amberlight · 24/07/2011 08:57

Prayers worked. Much better day yesterday. Thank you good people of the prayer thread.

Prayers aplenty for each situation as I'm reading through...

DutchOma · 24/07/2011 09:00

Lovely prayer Mary. Thinking of you as the day approaches.

We had the recording of the BBC Radio 4 service for the 250th anniversary of William Carey's birth which will go out at 8.10 on Sunday 14th August. I thought it went incredibly well, once we did the recording we only had to do one verse of one hymn again. We were there from 9.30 to 1.30, so a long morning.
And then I went to FibreEast and we had a surprise party for one of our Ravelry buddies.

All great fun.

I have got to get the children out of the house in 30 minutes to go to a party. I hate getting ready for parties... presents, card, food for ds, drink for ds grr. forgot to tell party mum that dd has allergy.. double grr...

Bluetinkerbell · 24/07/2011 16:56

Thanks all for your prayers! It was a beautiful day yesterday to put our Sterre to rest! I couldn't eat in the morning, I felt too nervous. But I managed through the day. All the people that cared about us where at the service, which went exactly as we wanted it to go. It was a truly beautiful goodbye to our precious baby. It was bittersweet at moments, seeing my 2 children together in one place, my DD making drawings on the floor, my sweetest baby in the casket next to her. DD was very proud and telling everyone it was her baby in there and giving the casket kisses. We had some lovely prayers written by everyone present on stars, which we will keep in Sterre's memory box.
My brother read No Matter What by Debi Gliori through his tears, he was meant to be godfather of Sterre. My DH was also very brave and carried Sterre to the churchyard and put the casket in the ground. After the service we had coffee/tea and cake back in the church and the men of the family went back to fill the grave up. After that we went with my family and DH's parents and sister to a nice country pub and had a nice meal together.
I feel at peace now, as I know Sterre's is safely kept in Jesus' arms.
I am a little bit nervous though as we have my consultant's appointment on Wednesday and we will hopefully find out what went wrong.

Mary thanks for the prayer, I receive the Taizé email as well, it was a really lovely one. We will be in Taizé next Sunday for a week! Really looking forward to that, as Taizé really is my 2nd home! Been going there since I was a baby and met DH there!
I've got plenty of time to pray there, so if anyone wants to send me special prayer requests, please do!

blackeyedsusan · 24/07/2011 22:18

glad it went well. sorry I have not posted much. it is difficult to read and post as it stirs up some difficult memories.

how are you caz? you doing ok?

MaryBS · 25/07/2011 07:15

I've never been to Taize blue, but have always wanted to go! Glad your day all went well, your DD sounds adorable and your DH is so brave (as are you).

Prayers also for you, BES.

Teaandcakeplease · 25/07/2011 07:37

Praying for your apt on Weds Blue.

amberlight · 25/07/2011 08:06

Much prayer....

CheerfulYank · 25/07/2011 09:12

Stopping by to offer prayers for everyone :)

SweetestThing · 25/07/2011 09:50

Blue, what a lovely goodbye to your beautiful Sterre. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Praying for everyone, no matter what we are all dealing with. I hope everyone who needs it is finding strength and comfort from Jesus' care.

I read in church yesterday for the first time since my operation - it was hard, standing up and showing my facial disfigurement and slight speech difficulty with everyone but I am glad I did, even though I shed some tears afterwards. Several people said afterwards that if I could get up and read, then surely they could put their nerves aside and do the same, so if it means more people standing up and reading the words of our Lord, then it's achieved something! I was a bit surprised by how upset it made me, however - guess I'm not as strong as I think I am!

Radiotherapy starts on Wednesday - joy.

Sun is shining and I have been out enjoying our beautiful countryside, appreciating the beauties of the world we have been given. I just wish we all looked after it a bit better :(

gingercurl · 25/07/2011 10:24

Praying as I read through.
Blue , I'd love to go to Taize. I have several friends that have been and it sounds like such a wonderful place. Glad Saturday went well. Praying for Wednesday's appointment.
Sweetest , it takes a lot of guts to stand up in front of people like that. Feeling and being are not necessarily the same thing. You are strong, even when you don't necessarily feel it. Praying for Wednesday for you , too.

Bluetinkerbell · 25/07/2011 10:42

Well maybe I should organise an organised Taizé trip Wink

blackeyedsusan · 25/07/2011 11:19

sometimes youcan just cry in relief that you have achieved something... and you have achieved something big... well done, it takes a lot of strenght to do it.

amberlight · 25/07/2011 11:30

I've been told Taize isn't accessible for people like me on the autism spectrum so I shouldn't try to go... Sad which is awful because I'd love to go next year.

Prayers aplenty...

MaryBS · 25/07/2011 12:11

Yes, well you know MY opinion on that Amber!

Bluetinkerbell · 25/07/2011 12:46

amber can I ask who told you that? Cause that is certainly not true!

MadHairMoody · 25/07/2011 13:58

Amber I can't believe people have said that to you. I'm sure Taize is one of the more accessible places to all. My parents have been and say the sense of peace and acceptance is overwhelming :)

BLue - that was beautiful - wonderful send off for your beautiful baby Sterre.

Keeping praying as I read.

Thanks for prayers. Weekend went well, goodbye party was emotional but fun. Looking forward to saturday when we go to New Wine :)

amberlight · 25/07/2011 14:15

A Bishop who regularly takes groups there. Says it's much too unstructured and random. Confused

Bluetinkerbell · 25/07/2011 14:32

Terrible! I hope it's not the bishop I know.
Taizé and the meetings are very structured.
Sorry I just have to copy/paste the following Wink
A typical day at Taizé
From Monday to Friday

8.15 am Morning prayer, then breakfast

10 am Introduction to the day with a brother of the community followed by quiet reflection or small group discussion

12.20 pm Midday prayer, then lunch

2 pm Optional song-practice

During the afternoon: international small groups or practical work

5.15 pm Tea

5.45 pm Theme workshops from Tuesday on

7 pm Supper

8.30 pm Evening prayer, then vigil with songs in the church, followed by night silence

Friday evening prayer is followed by prayer around the Cross.

Saturday

3.15 pm Theme workshops

8.30 pm Evening prayer with candles to celebrate the paschal mystery

Sunday

8.45 am Breakfast

10 am Morning Eucharist

1 pm Lunch

7 pm Supper

8.30 pm Evening prayer

I think this Bishop is not following the program like he's supposed to!
I would recommend that if you decide to go to take someone you know with you, so that you have someone familiar to talk to when needed.
Because it can be quite scary being in a crowd ranging from 2000 to 6000 people if you don't know anyone to talk to, but you get to know people in the small discussion groups and make friends very easily!
I would definitely recommend to go! Grin but I'm biased as I practically grew up there Wink

amberlight · 25/07/2011 14:36

Thank you...next year when I'm allowed out of the country again after all this treatment, I might take along a friends or several and try it out...

DutchOma · 25/07/2011 16:02

How do you feel yourself about such a programme Amber? After all you know yourself best and what you can cope with.

It's hard for people who are not Aspergers to know what you can and cannot cope with. With all the best will in the world I would not have guessed that you find it difficult to be out in the rain. I can understand it well enough when you tell me, but not otherwise.
