Spring into Summer - Christian Prayer Thread

It always amazes me to see the range of things we pray for: from praying for people with cancer at the one end of the range to praying for a lost telephone. With difficult mothers-in-law, marital difficulties and unfeeling fellow Christians all wrapped up in it somewhere.
And knowing with joyful certainty that God hears us all, that no request is too frivolous for Him and that He loves to hear our prayers.
So, I just want to pick out a few highlights to keep our prayers focussed:
We pray for Amberlight and Sweetestthing who are dealing with cancer. We commit the two of you to the care of our Lord and look forward to you sharing your progress with us. We are here for you, knowing how important praying friends are ? there is scientific evidence for this.

Then, there are a few of us struggling with health issues:- Madhairday and Gingercurl?s sister. I would also like to mention my dh, Bob, here. I so value your prayers because I find it very difficult to pray for myself and for him when the going gets tough.

BlackeyedSusan and Teaandcakeplease are both dealing with the break-up of their marriage and bringing up their children on their own. We pray for strength and also for the undivided support of the churches they belong to. Especially in BES? case we could wish for a bit more understanding.

With CazandBelle we rejoice over the latest scan and pray for peace of mind for the rest of the pregnancy. Do share your feelings with us Caz, if you are able.

PositiveAttitude brought two prayer requests concerning her dds. Dd2 was in a car crash a few weeks ago and really needed another car. Wonderfully, her boyfriend was able to come to her rescue. And dd3 lost her phone on a trip that was a miracle in itself after her recent illness. Here again, prayer was answered and a new phone supplied.

Dippy, we love you, thanks for prompting us to do a new summary. We grieve with you over the loss of friends, but rejoice over birthday parties and broody chickens.

Let?s pray.

amber, listen to mary (cos I is fick I is... Grin )

gingercurl · 12/06/2011 10:38

Amen, Mary. Wise words. I hope the service goes well today (read about it on the other thread).

madhairday · 12/06/2011 12:01

Amber, praying for you, and totally agree with Mary's wise words. We are all allowed some non bravery at times. I recently wrote this blog post about that very thing, not feeling very brave and in fact allowing a bit of indulgence in self pity, which is OK to do, not saying that you are doing that but I think we all need to sometimes!! Hope it helps a bot today.

We did this song today and I want to write the words for us all:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace
As you trust in him, as you trust in him,
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace
As you trust in him, as you trust in him.

So that you might overflow with hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit
So that you might overflow with hope, with hope
By the power of the Holy Spirit.

I'm praying for an overflowing of hope for all of us here today.

amberlight · 12/06/2011 14:07

That's a really lovely blog post - thank you

blackeyedsusan · 12/06/2011 17:35

well we made it to church. dd played quietly with her friend (who also came out in a rash the same day as dd, so they both caught it at the church we away) ds though managed a few screeches during communion, though right at the back and behind the screen so it could have been worse. (not much)

we managed to stay in for the sermon too, though he did cry at one point when he headbutted the carpet.

DutchOma · 12/06/2011 20:40

Well done, all three of you. During our sermon this morning one of the little ones that stayed in church shouted something out and Paul said:"Did you say "Absolutely?" whch was an appropriate comment in the sermon. "No?", he said, "Oh well,it must have been in tongues, after all, it's Pentecost".

SweetestThing · 13/06/2011 09:02

Good morning, lovely prayerful ladies :)

This is the day that the Lord has made
We will rejoice and be glad in it - despite the rain and clouds!!

Busy weekend, introducing my new wonky face to lots of people, including my church. I don't yet feel ready to attend a service (it's the music that gets me, every time - it just brings all the emotion to the surface and I am not strong enough to be able to hold back the tears at the moment) but one of our Elders, who has been a fabulous support to me during my illness, is moving house and had baked a mahoosive cake and brought some fizzy to mark the occasion. She specifically wanted me to be there if I could so Mr ST and I went along. It was a much easier way to see people again, as it was a social event with the focus on someone else, not me, although people obviously came and spoke to me. I felt surrounded by love and care, which really boosted me.

Does anyone else feel down when the weather isn't good? My mood just plummets when it rains or is dull, especially when we're supposed to be in the height of summer!

Prayers for everyone who needs the comforting arm of God around their shoulders.

bes, your ds's comment reminds me of when we were in church with DS as a tiny baby and DD a three year old. DS filled his nappy, with accompanying noises and red face, but we might have got away with it had DD not shouted out, in clarion-like tones, "Oh DS, don't tell me you have done another poo!"

DutchOma · 13/06/2011 09:21

I know what you mean about the weather SweetestThing, but we so needed the rain yesterday for our lovely garden. I wish it had rained a bit harder though, it has not really made a lot of difference and if it's got to rain, it might as well tip it down. Or AIBU? Very glad you had a nice get together at your church. Can you manage to cry with your 'wonky' face?

Blessings for all

SweetestThing · 13/06/2011 09:26

I like the thought of this thread sparking off an AIBU thread!! :)

We had rain tipping down yesterday (East Surrey) and it lasted most of the afternoon and evening, with blustery wind, so I think our garden has been well and truly watered!

Yes, I can cry - there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the tear duct in my left eye, thankfully. The thought of dry, itchy eye on top of everything else is not pleasant.....

CaptainDippy · 13/06/2011 10:23

Well Done ST Smile xx

Just wanted to let you all know that the reason it is raining is because it is Tennis Week here in Eastbourne Wink

madhairday · 13/06/2011 10:54

Yes and it will carry on because it's Wimbledon soon

'tis tradition.

Good morning lovely people. Praying as I read through. Good news that our house should be completing next week. Praise God!

Amber - glad you found it helpful. Have been thinking of you, hope you are feeling ok today and will be praying for you for tomorrow. x

gingercurl · 13/06/2011 16:51

I'm hoping for a dry summer this year Smile .

Please pray for DH. He's seen suffering from persistent headaches and dizzy spells for the last two months or so. Am concerned because I have to be away from home two nights per week for my research so DH is looking after DS on his own. I worry that he'll loose his balance and fall. He's seen the GP who's referring for a head scan.

MaryBS · 14/06/2011 08:19

Good news MHD!

Prayers for your DH gingercurl, and for Amber today...

My task today is to make a start on my sermon for Sunday. Early start needed on it as its Trinity Sunday. Last time I preached on the trinity, I upset my tutor for working on my sermon rather than the coursework for his course!

DutchOma · 14/06/2011 08:57

Do you need another sermon on the Trinity, Mary? Is there more than one you could preach? Grin

Prayers for Amber specially today

Prayers aplenty for everyone...

mufti · 14/06/2011 09:40

i wanted to mention that i am going off to see a consultant shortly, about a lump

MaryBS · 14/06/2011 09:50

Prayers for you, mufti. When do you see the consultant?

amberlight · 14/06/2011 10:01

Ooo mufti, lots of prayer for you and your lump and your consultant...hopefully it'll turn out to be a not very rudely behaved one...

mufti · 14/06/2011 12:29

thank you, just got back from hosp and all the pokings about
results in a week or so.

madhairday · 14/06/2011 14:18

Mufti....praying for you esp for peace during this week.

Amber, how are you?

Mary praying that you get your sermon written!

Today I have been to pulmonary rehab, decluttered the lounge and sorted removal quotes. Also sorting lots of bags to take to the summer fayre. Feel like I'm finally getting on top of stuff as I feel that much better this week. :)

Keeping you all in my prayers.

SweetestThing · 14/06/2011 14:20

Hello, lovely ladies.

Mufti, prayers for you - amber and I are both travelling the Cancer Superhighway so we know that feeling when you find a lump. Let's hope yours turns out to be innocuous - and a week might feel like a very long time, but hopefully it will pass quickly for you.

Saw my consultant this morning and asked to be referred to the Royal Marsden for my treatment (radiotherapy and possibly chemo) - not only is it considerably nearer than Guildford, where they intended to send me, but it is a specialist cancer hospital and they are doing great things with treatment for my particular cancer which minimises the collateral damage, like loss of hearing :(. Given how aggressive my cancer is/was, I feel so much better for being referred there.

Sorry if too much information. There's so much to process that my brain aches sometimes :)
