the first one is nearly full.

Anyone welcome, it's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

yes - I like Toddlers - rare excursion outside the house with adult conversation in my week.

Grin

adult conversation isn't great here - i get lots of people coming in asking daft questions and then wondering why i haven't got a computing section (because most children know how to use a computer without having to refer to the manaul, of course! Hmm )

madhairday · 31/03/2011 17:08

we're going to look at some houses tomorrow - excited now!!

nickelbabyhatcher · 31/03/2011 17:12

oooh!
have you many to look at?
what kind?
how many bedrooms?
garden?
etc?

madhairday · 31/03/2011 17:16

3 to see tomorrow. All detached 4 bed new build. Tiny gardens but what we're used to, all these new builds do that. Only problem is study space - dh has to have a downstairs study and these aren't built with them (well for a price church can afford) so may have to be creative with dining rooms etc, so we'll see what sort of space they offer. I know we are blessed. My health probs mean that new build is the best sort of house for me - I've been terribly ill when we lived in Victorian houses, though I loved the character - sigh!! All of these are near the school too. :)

nickelbabyhatcher · 31/03/2011 17:23

depending on the size of the living areas, you could get one of those room divider book casees and block part of the room of with that?

madhairday · 31/03/2011 17:25

Good idea, will report back!! :)

MaryBS · 31/03/2011 17:32

Would have thought study would have to be private though? Would the church convert a garage into a study, if there was a garage?

madhairday · 31/03/2011 17:40

We've asked that Mary and apparently they have no funds for any conversions til 2014 Hmm so they need to buy as seen. I was thinking more along the lines of the dining room being a study and hopefully either the kitchen being big enough to have a table in or having a conservatory or something for it. we shall see what comes up. Sometimes these things are make do...I realise that sounds horrible actually as it will be wonderful living in a nice house in a nice area but vicarages are usually huge, not that I would want a huge house, too much cleaning, but just need space so that we can be open to the community, have people round etc. Hopefully the right one will come up :)

MaryBS · 31/03/2011 17:44

I'll be interested to see how it goes... any chance of a sneak peak at the sort of thing you'll be looking at? (she asks nosily...)

madhairday · 31/03/2011 17:59

Will see if I can do some after have seen them tomorrow and got the details Mary :)

thanksamillion · 31/03/2011 18:09

Hello all.

MHD hope the house hunting goes well. We've got friends who have the most gorgeous Victorian vicarage and it has got a brilliant study next to the front door, totally seperate from the rest of the house. But they freely admit that they only like living in it because the wife works and so they can afford to heat it and did it up when they moved in, and they have an au pair to help with the cleaning! You do need that community space though, especially if you're not going to have a church building as such (is that right??).

None of you are my fb friends Grin

madhairday · 31/03/2011 18:57

I'll be your FB friend milly! Then you can find most of the others in this motley crew Grin Will PM you :)

Yes you're right. We won't have a church building so space is important. The bloke sorting it has added a 4th one for tomorrow with apparently much more space but is not sure if budget will stretch, sounds ideal though so prayers appreciated. I want it to be a place which people can come in, feel welcome, find acceptance, have parties. An Embassy of Heaven, that is my dream for where we will be.

thanksamillion · 31/03/2011 19:18

Thanks! Just tried to add you but can't get into fb at the moment so will try later Smile

essenceofSES · 31/03/2011 21:17

Hello! Busy, busy, busy here!
Great ideas for songs for me to do with DS :) I used to love "Jesus love is very Wonderful" when I was little and I have an old copy of Junior Praise!

MHD - hope you find your "Embassy of Heaven" (love that image by the way!)

Mary - glad you're feeling a bit better and hope your recovery continues smoothly!

Milly - that sounds like a busy time ahead!

Nickel - hope things are going well with you! I live in hope that I may join you in being upduffed with a BFP over the weekend but trying not to get my hopes up too much!

Hello Baroque and anyone else around.

Oh and if anyone wants to be my FB friend, please PM me!!

nickelbabyhatcher · 01/04/2011 11:32

nickelbabyhatcher · 01/04/2011 15:39

Yes, thanks Mary, feeling much better :)
still a bit icky, but nothing near like the "hangover" this morning Grin

madhairday · 01/04/2011 16:48

Will PM you SES.

Just back from house hunting! Wow, some great houses, saw 5 in the end today. The diocesan bloke sorting it is absolutely lovely. The first one we saw I could have moved in then and there it was so gorgeous, but it didn't have room for a study sadly. A couple more were like that, but one we saw had lots of room plus a south facing garden, I loved it, it needs a bit of decorating but not too much, we're having a ponder and going to re-look next week and see some more too. Decisions!! Exciting though :)

madhairday · 02/04/2011 11:24

Morning all....how is everyone today?

Got to sort out this mess of a house then may go to the museum for a mother's day thing on there with the dc.

What are you all doing for Mothering Sunday in your churches? We are doing an all age with Moses as focus, dh leading so will be good Grin

nickelbabyhatcher · 02/04/2011 11:34

morning!
i'm not well today. It's getting to be routine now! Grin
still, everyone keeps telling me that sickness is a goood thing.

We're doing a standard service, with posies of flowers for the women. It will seem very odd being a mum-to-be, cos i've always felt like a fraud being given a posy when I'm not a mum!
But it's also Mission Aviation Fellowship Sunday (great timing on that one! Hmm ) so we're mostly concentrating on that. We probably wouldn't do so as much if we had more children in the congregation.

Glad your househunt was productive. :)

MaryBS · 02/04/2011 12:12

Am not well either, but at least its not morning sickness! Went back to Dr yesterday, who has put me on antibiotics. If I'm not well tomorrow, I'll miss the APCM. I'm due for re-election to the PCC as well, so perhaps I'll miss that :o (sorry, shouldn't grin).

They give out posies of daffodils at our church, to everyone, not just mothers.

nickelbabyhatcher · 02/04/2011 12:28

you'll still get re-elected if you're not there - sorry Grin

just the women in our church - the reason I feel like a fraud is because at my original churc hthey just gave them out to mothers or to people who had mothers that they would see. So it felt very odd to be receiving one when I wasn't a mother and when I wasn't going to be visiting my mother.

MaryBS · 02/04/2011 12:33

I think its great if everyone is included. Mothering Sunday can be difficult for some people, if they can't have children, or have just lost their mother, or a child, and to single out certain groups just emphasises that difficulty on such a day. We have a 93yo man who is quite happy to receive a posy on Mothering Sunday :)

(shame about the PCC, but you never know, they might forget, as things are very disorganised at the moment, although I'd probably end up being co-opted later!)

nickelbabyhatcher · 02/04/2011 12:37

yes, i agree, it's lovely.
:)

(our churchwarden forgot to nominate herself or churchwarden - she was in charge of it all and had to be added on just before the meeting!)
