the first one is nearly full.

Anyone welcome, it's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

OP posts:
nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 10:52

thank God!
i thought you'd all been washed away! Grin

MaryBS · 19/03/2011 11:29

Nah, hanging out the washing in the sunshine!

nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 11:38

ooh, I wish I could go out in the sunshine. Envy

it was still miserable and dull when I came to work.

thanksamillion · 19/03/2011 11:49

I'm here. Been to collect some parcels this morning that my parents sent - English chocolate and some books/clothes for the kids. Well done parents Grin

nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 12:40

excellent stuff!
it's like a FoodAid parcel! Grin

MaryBS · 19/03/2011 13:09

Its almost warm here! Yay re: food parcels though, I like that sort of thing!

Argh, emergency printing of the newsletter taking place here at home (power failure has done something to the church PC), and the greyscale isn't working (different printer), so it doesn't look quite right, and the Bishop is coming tomorrow!!!!!

nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 13:35

oopsy! Grin

don't worry about it - when the Bishop came to visit us, we didn't even manage a decent congregation! ShockWink
it'll be fine!

change the greyscale if it's not working.

nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 13:37

we've just bought a new tripod.
it's huge.

We had to buy it now, because I'm bellydancing tonight and DH is supposed to be filming it - but he can't stand the whole night holding the camera! Grin
Plus it means that I can take photos better, wins all round!
Still have nowhere to put it in the church thoughg, that will get the sound right and also be inconspicuous and not on anyone's way

nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 13:37

in anyone's way

[d'oh]

DutchOma · 19/03/2011 13:40

Are you bellydancing in the church? During Lent??

MaryBS · 19/03/2011 13:42

There's nothing like a bit of camera joggle when you're bellydancing :o. Are you bellydancing in church? Makes a change from flag waving and interpretive dance :o

Have removed the greyscale. Bet people will moan though Confused

nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 13:44

DutchOma - i love the way during Lent is more shocking than bellydancing in the church Grin

no, i'm not doing it in the church - that was just another reason for us getting the tripod.
(i was trying to link in with the topic, you see! Grin )

MaryBS · 19/03/2011 13:47

There's nothing in the canon re: not bellydancing during lent. Only the Gloria and Alleluias! :o

nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 13:51

oooh [pensive]

there's an idea for during communion then....

thanksamillion · 19/03/2011 14:36

Loving the bellydancing in church ideas.

Yes foodaid indeed! You can get most things in the city but that's a 5 hour round trip and in the village it's pretty much cabbage, carrot and potato all winter so parcels are very welcome!!

Mary I wouldn't worry about everything being perfect for the Bish - they probably get fed up of it and would really welcome going to a church where no-one batted an eyelid at them "morning Bish - have a seat over there, we'll get to you in a bit" type thing Grin

MaryBS · 19/03/2011 17:49

Not worried about it not being perfect for the Bishop, but there are people who moan when things aren't "just right"! :)

Just had some "eek" news on the church situation - not for public consumption, but prayers would be helpful...

essenceofSES · 19/03/2011 22:05

Mary - be assured of my prayers for you and the situation at your church. I hope all works out well.

bellydancing - fab idea! Something we may be able to get all churches and all denominations to agree on?! Grin

MaryBS · 20/03/2011 12:44

I got to be Bishop's chaplain for the service, so I was in charge of his mitre and crozier! It was quite good fun actually, hadn't got a clue what I was doing, but apparently I looked as if I did :o. He's a lovely man, very friendly :)

madhairday · 20/03/2011 16:11

Afternoon everyone :)

I have posted some news on the prayer thread, can't be bothered to do it again but basically we are upping sticks and off again in the summer, this time to Telford to Plant a Church. Yay!!! And [scared] Grin

rofl at bellydancing in church. Why ever not.

DO are things sorted for getting dh to brompton?

Wasn't on yesterday as was stuffing my face interacting with my family all day at cadbury world, was a good day :)

thanksamillion · 20/03/2011 18:47

Wow exciting MHD (and Envy at Cadburys world although we did get a box of Milk tray from my parents yesterday).

How long have you been in your current place? and is there stuff already happening in Telford that you'll be joinging or are you starting things from scratch? (sorry if you've put that on the other thread - I will go and have a look!).

And Mary - glad all went well! Can I ask, are you ordained or a lay worker (or something else!)? Just being nosey... Grin

MaryBS · 20/03/2011 19:25

TAM, I'm a Lay Reader, AKA a Licensed Lay Minister, if that helps... have been for just over a year :)

PositiveAttitude · 21/03/2011 06:18

Just flying by after spending a few days with DD4 in hospital very poorly. Hopefully she will be well enough to come home today. I have just had a heavenly night asleep in my own bed and am feeling human again.

Well done MHD, very exciting.

Picked up that you have been discussing belly dancing in church.... I would be asked to wait until 1pm, when we are trying to empty the loiterers out to go home for lunch. Grin Easy way to clear anyone within sight!!

DillyDaydreaming · 21/03/2011 06:27

Just checking in as haven't posted for a while.
I am enjoying the Journey in Faith course I've started and will do the full one next year. I am going to be received into the Catholic church next year too - left it too late this year.

Had a nightmare with attending church yesterday as DS was "extra" autistic yesterday - no idea why - think he was tired among other things. Was very active and very distant and hard to reach though. All in all I missed Mass but am going tomorrow night instead (alone this time) followed by a film review - we are watching The Shawshank Redemption so should be good.

madhairday · 21/03/2011 12:07

Morning

PA sorry DD4 still so poorly. Hope she is much better soon.

Hi dilly great that you're enjoying the course so much, sorry about your difficult time in church. I love the Shawshank Redemption, one of my favourite films of all time :)

I am supposed to be doing the church newsletter but have so little motivation, actually none at all. Come on somebody inspire me Grin

Where's Baroque and nickel today?

nickelbabysnatcher · 21/03/2011 12:12

Morning all! Grin

absolutely exhausted today - yesterday was communion, give blood, APCM, evensong.

we got home for about an hour after the APCM before evensong, so had beans on toast for tea! Grin

For the first time in a long time, I had breakfast before communion, because of giving blood and I felt really fat all morning!
I had my normal bottle of water and a carton of cranberry juice, and kept getting comments from the old blokes in the choir that they were amazed i didn't need the toilet with the amount I was knocking back! (i did not want to risk blood rejection again )
Blood was great - after a very long wait (they wre behind because one of the staff had to go home sick), my prick test blob went down like lead GrinGrin, and my donation proper was over in 7mins and 17 seconds (the detail fascinates me Blush )

Then to St Mary's for the APCM, where i've been voted onto the PCC again.
then home for the BoT and back to St Michael's for evensong! [tired]

I had to sit down for a bit of rehearsal and during two of the hymns in the service because I felt a bit weak.

But I don't care cos I'm a hero! Grin
After I gave blood, we walked over to sainsbury's and I did "superhero arms" all across the crossing! Grin
