the first one is nearly full.

Anyone welcome, it's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

yeah, i can see that and i know what you mean, but I've never heard of them being pulled out of hymns before.

as acclamations during the service, we only do Alleluia at easter anyway.

MaryBS · 11/03/2011 17:24

We don't pull them out of hymns, we just don't pick hymns with Alleluias in :). We sing Alleluias at the Acclamation every week except Lent and Advent.

nickelprincess · 11/03/2011 17:31

okay, that's fair enough - Lent hymns should always be in a minor key, apparently.

which acclamation?
the gospel? or the dismissal?

MaryBS · 11/03/2011 17:53

The Gospel. I didn't know that about Lent hymns!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 12/03/2011 09:32

ooooooooooo for those of you not on my FB - I just HAVE to tell you this. You know I was all happy start of the week as I realised I my social fund loan was paid off (so more IS coming in) and I do't have water to pay for 2 months. Well I spent part of the "extra" money on my coffee machine. And last night splashed the rest of it..........

On..............

Ringside (Row A!!!) tickets to watch the Moscow State Circus at the end of April with the DS's Grin AND it's into "summer tenting season" when they move out of the theatres and into the big tops - so it's goin to be a PROPER circus trip for me and my DS's Grin Grin

OP posts:
nickelprincess · 12/03/2011 10:05

Mary - it's not true Grin it's just something that the old guys say!

I saw that B - how amazing! Grin
My family all live in Nottingham, so you should pay them a visit when you're there!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 12/03/2011 10:08

I don't think I've ever been to Nottingham - but it's only an hour on the train.

Where's cheap (but not McDonald's......) to eat and family friendly - will probably "eat out" afterwards (afternoon show we're going to) before heading home

OP posts:
nickelprincess · 12/03/2011 10:10

depends where the circus is.
tell me location!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 12/03/2011 10:11

'tis at the "Goose Fair" site - which is eons away from the train station - so will have to head back across town to get the train anyhow - so anything between there and the train station Grin

OP posts:
BaroqueAroundTheClock · 12/03/2011 10:12

and I'm panicking - I've lost a notice someone gave me to go on the newsheet. Worst of all it was a notice handed to me personally on Monday night at home by one of my close friends - and I can't get hold of her on the phone - OMG what do I do???????

OP posts:
nickelprincess · 12/03/2011 10:50

Right, beware that the "goose fair site" (known as the Forest Recreation Ground IRL! Grin ), is in a pretty rough area.

this is basically the route you will need

you walk from the train station to Broad Marsh, to Station Street Tram Stop (you should be able to see the trams, once you get over the road to BM)
you can get on the tram!!! (get a day rider, which will sort you out for busses and trams all day)

Get off the tram at the Arboretum, then walk down to the Forest from there.
You'll have to walk down through the Forest Rec to get to the Circus site, but it's nice through the [ark, and it'll be obvious where you're going, because you'll be able to see it.

otherwise, you can walk through town to the Market Square and get a Green Bus to Clarendon College
this map is good because it shows you where the routes are

I'm disappearing for a minute, cos i'm doing you a pic with amrkings on so you can compare with the map....

nickelprincess · 12/03/2011 10:52

oops. :(
Keep trying her?
look under the big pile of crap you've put on top of it?

nickelprincess · 12/03/2011 10:54

okay:
here is the big map of the whole network, which is in the last link on my previous post
here is the map of the city centre the train station is just off the map, but you can see where it is, if you compare to the big map.

You will need to go to the NCT website for the proper map, and I think you can print it off too, to take with you.

nickelprincess · 12/03/2011 10:55

at the top of the screen dump, you can see the exact web address for the maps, too.

nickelprincess · 12/03/2011 10:56

one's helpful too
you can see Goose Fair on the map - the tram would be very exciting!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 12/03/2011 15:16

ach I'm not worried about "rough" areas.............you should see where my brother lives in Edinburgh and we stayed there for 2 weeks Shock!

Will have a look at the maps later (supposed to be getting laptop set up for tomorrow right now hehe)

OP posts:
nickelbabysnatcher · 12/03/2011 15:53

I love how you put rough in "" Grin

hahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahaha

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 12/03/2011 16:26

hey look you're talking to the girl who hitch hiked from Jo'burg to Harare, and regularly walked around the not so nice parts of Harare on her own Grin

OP posts:
nickelbabysnatcher · 12/03/2011 16:34
Grin

okay, i accept it, you're tough! Grin

madhairday · 12/03/2011 16:45

Brilliant Baroque, bet you'll have a good time. Used to live in Nottingham but don't know the centre very well.

Feel like I should be doing something productive. Have cleaned up, watched Shrek Forever after with ds, and sorted out a very muddy dd after a day out with daddy, and now feel like being creative but not sure. hmmm...blog, pd or scrapbooking?? Porbably Mumsnetting Wine

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 12/03/2011 17:17

yeah I'm well hard I am Wink

(though "well 'ardness" doesn't really hold much weight when shit happens right in the safety of your own home as it did 18 months ago iykwim?)

OP posts:
nickelbabysnatcher · 12/03/2011 17:21

mhd - i just thought about PD too, but it's too late.

I've got a friend coming over tonight to learn how to embroider.
Grin I don't know how to do it much either, but it's a good excuse for a girly giggle.

madhairday · 12/03/2011 18:42

Sorry I've not been on for a few days. Been toooo busy!

I've been at the Rite of Election today at Arundel Cathedral. This is basically a big service presided over by the Bishop for those that are going to be baptised and/or confirmed & receive First Holy Communion at Easter. It is a fantastic day and so uplifting to see about 60 adults preparing for baptism and another 110 preparing for confirmation & First Holy Communion.
We have six going forwards in out parish and we then went out for a meal afterwards.

This is all part of the RCIA group that I mentioned earlier in the week that I co-ordinate for our parish. RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and we meet weekly to help those enquiring into the Catholic faith to have a greater understanding of what it means to be a Catholic Christian so that they can decide whether it is where they feel called to be. If they decide it si, they can then go forwards to receive sacraments fo initiation at Easter.

This is exactly the process that I went through 14yrs ago!

Sorry that's all about me, me, me. Been trying to read through and catch up....

Nickel - hope you had fun this evening with your friend. Did you actually get any embroidery done?!

Baroque - hope you got the notice you were missing sorted?

Hello Mary and MHD too!

madhairday · 13/03/2011 14:27

Hello all and happy Sunday. The sun is shining :)

Hi Ses, glad the cathedral service was good and all the best with the RCIA thing, guess it's similar to the confirmation course for anglican types. All sounds good and exciting :)

Off to have a sunday afternoon nap :)
