the first one is nearly full.

Anyone welcome, it's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

If you like the job, then I am sure after 3 months it would be daft to get someone else in to have to learn it all again. (But then if it is a church thing then daft seems essential qualification sometimes. Hmm).
At least you will get a feel for it and see if you want to continue, then you will be best placed to argue for the job if the time comes.

"dh has just let the side down by citing that wafers are 'very useful for counting numbers of communicants'" - well done mhd - exactly!

Well done Mary !
obviously not going to ask how much you're getting paid, but did your research prove fruitful?
Don't worry, you'll be great. the most important thing of being a parish admin is being able to multitask....

PA - the bread doesn't stick your mouth as much, and i thin kthat's another reason why i like the wafer - gives you an excuse to have a really big gulp of the wine! Grin [hic]

Morning - took the DS's to the service last night - they were pretty good to be fair to them........DS3 did a bit of racing up and down the middle of the aisle Blush - but they were pretty quiet even though DS3 was in and out of creche and over to me (typically the opposite side of the church from the creche) quite regularly at least he did it quietly.

For those of you who like parodies of hymns...

Dear Lord and Father of mankind, forgive our foolish ways;
For most of us, when asked our mind, admit we still most pleasure find
In hymns of ancient days, in hymns of ancient days.

The simple lyrics, for a start, of many a modern song
Are far too trite to touch the heart; enshrine no poetry, no art;
And go on much too long, and go on much too long.

O, for a rest from jollity and syncopated praise!
What happened to tranquillity? The silence of eternity
Is hard to hear these days, is hard to hear these days.

Drop Thy still dews of quietness till all our strummings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress of always having to be blessed;
Give us a bit of peace, give us a bit of peace.

Breathe through the beats of praise-guitar Thy coolness and Thy balm;
Let drum be dumb, bring back the lyre, enough of earthquake, wind and fire,
Let's hear it for some calm, let's hear it for some calm.

Morning,

Whatever dh says, bread is best Grin

Got dd off school still, got to take her to the doctors in a bit as her ear has not cleared up, still feeling dodgy myslef. somewhat fed up...

MaryBS · 10/03/2011 10:27

And of course I just HAD to share this one (ignoring MHD and her bread comments)

Kendrick songs through this land are ringing
Every church to his tune is singing.
Gui-tarists all the chords will strumming,
Organ-ists feel that they are now slumming
Playing these songs,
Bing bingy bong.

Shine, Graham, shine,
Fill this land with the Kendrick story,
Sway, choirs, sway, as you harmonise.
Clap, people, clap,
Then come in just a beat too early,
But you won't mind cos this song's very nice.

PositiveAttitude · 10/03/2011 10:39

Grin Grin at those songs!

barleywood · 10/03/2011 10:53

These lyrics Grin are great.

Brought a smile to my face

nickelprincess · 10/03/2011 11:38

Mary - i love the Lord and Father one! Grin

that second one - I might have to sing those words if we ever do that crap hymn again! Grin

Actually, Dear Lord and Father always makes me cry
this line:
"Take from our lives the strain and stress"

not because it makes me think of becoming calm after God's word, but because it reminds me of my degree (Materials Science - there's a lot of strain and stress in testing materials and working out their properties and how they behave), and it reminds me that that part of my life didn't come to anything.
:(

nickelprincess · 10/03/2011 11:41

Mary - can yo upls tell me the source of those words?
I would love to put those on our choir website (just for fun!) Grin

MaryBS · 10/03/2011 11:52

Ship of Fools

:o Thought you'd appreciate them, nickel :o

(as for the salary, I went for the middle of PA's figures, rather than the min wage, and I guess they thought this was OK - tbh in many ways they're getting a bargain, given I am theologically trained, have a degree, used to be a computer programmer etc, so very IT literate, AND I can put up with the vicar, as I know what he's like :o )

MaryBS · 10/03/2011 11:55

PS hope you and DD are OK MHD. Thought I'd posted that earlier, but don't know where it went... Blush

madhairday · 10/03/2011 12:33

pmsl at those lyrics. May have to check out that website again, haven't been there in a while.

Just back from the docs, dd has more antibiotics and antibiotic ear drops, hope they clear it up this time. Her psoriasis has also flared up badly with it so got more creams for that. poor love. She however feels a lot better, but the school wouldn't thank me for sending her in with stuff seeping out of her ear, although the doctor says it is not infectious.

Her being off all week though and me being off colour has meant I've got a fair amount of church and school admin stuff done - yay! Bit fed up of these walls though...

nickelprincess · 10/03/2011 13:05

fabulous! I've uploaded a couple to the choir website, and followed a couple of links to get more!
Grin

I remember that psoriasis can flare up when the body's under stress, so it's probably been excerbated by her being poorly :(

nickelprincess · 10/03/2011 13:37

this is us!
we did that! Shock

barleywood · 10/03/2011 15:52

I'll post a link if I manage to complete it, listen to me being all techie. I'll be as good as Baroque soon.

I might be being a little picky here, but the new diocesan bishop is coming to our church in a couple of weeks, and his chaplain has been emailed to say (amongst other things) that we sing the Gloria. Not during Lent we don't!!! Blush

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 10/03/2011 17:52

oh no you don't sing the Gloria during Lent (or Advent!) Shock

OP posts:
barleywood · 10/03/2011 17:56

No Gloria during Lent... not even for a bishop

DutchOma · 10/03/2011 18:02

Let's not forget Jesus during lent. He seemed a long way away during the service yesterday.

MaryBS · 10/03/2011 18:35

I know (to Jesus AND to Gloria). Not everyone else does though...
