the first one is nearly full.

Anyone welcome, it's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

Glad you're Ok Baroque. Missed the insomnia thread, sounds like it turned nasty :(

essenceofSES · 04/03/2011 21:32

Hello all!

nickel - my new year resolution was to stop worrying so much and live more in the present moment. Not doing so well on that this week - period arrived and feeling a bit of a failure on the ttc front :(

Baroque - Shock at the insomnia thread!

PA - sorry about your accident.

Milly - I also love hearing about what you get up to in Moldova. Have a good weekend yourself too!

Hello to MHD, lyra, MaryBS and anyone else I've missed!

nickelbabe · 05/03/2011 10:50

milly - your experiences sound amazing. Grin

essence - coem and join the viroids thread - it's a ttc thread, but you're not allowed to get obssessed with stuff (we don't do that very well! Grin )

B glad it got deleted. I couldn't believe how nasty she got, and then kept going "oh, i'm not being nasty or calling you," and then kept on digging a deeper hole.
Some people just aren't worth it. :( Angry

and morning to everyone else! Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 05/03/2011 10:55

I'm all over the place - wasn't able to sleep until 3am, and was just drifting off when I heard the cat scratching at the back door, felt a draft and jumped up to see that he'd opened the door (obviously hadn't been shut properly earlier in the day). He wandered out and mooched around teh garden, then jumped up onto the wall and across to next doors shed...........haven't seen him since 3am

and it's quite late now.
are you lot busy today? could you go for a walk round the neighbourhood?

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 05/03/2011 11:06

need to get the church newsletter done. Worried if we go out looking for him he'll come back and try to get in and not be able to and will bugger off again

Had the Guides for choir last night, which went really well Grin

I introduced Seek Ye First, and distributed percussion instruments, and got them all to do different rhythms on their instruemnts, while N played the organ. (nearly put his name, but prob best not to! - the other organist)
It sounded really good! I know they weren't all perfect timing, but that'll come, and it sounded nice anyway!
Then i got them all to sing it while playing their instruments, then sing it all through without the instruments.
then they sang it all the way through again with their instruments.
It went really well.

and on top of all that, I got them to write down then names of the musical notes on their warm-up sheets, which they have to complete for homework.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 05/03/2011 11:21

He's just scurried back in Grin

DS1 and 2 were awake early this morning and at 7am I woke up enough to realise that they were both dressed and had shoes and jacket on to go out and look for him

and I'm getting mightily pissed off with my junior chorister - he has got a lovely voice and he's doing really well normally, but he refuses to behave properly at practice.
We were trying to do this week's anthem with him in jounir practice, and it starts on Enatural, so I got DH to play the E and asked junior to sing, but he put his head down into his chest and grunted. and just kept doing that.
eventually he sang the piece (to la at this stage), but then he started looking at the ceiling instead of at the page.
I swear I was getting sooooo angry.
Problem is, the more he pisses about the later the adults can join in - it was nearly 8o'clock when they could join in last night (it's supposed to be 1/4 to 8)
and DH was really pissed off too (which takes a lot)
and said that he'd better not piss about like that next week, because we've got loads to go through.

nickelbabe · 05/03/2011 11:24

Grin good!

PositiveAttitude · 05/03/2011 11:26

Baroque, how old is your cat? They are very good at finding their way home. He is probably curled up warm in a corner somewhere with his nose up his bum and will wander home when he is hungry. Does he not normally go out?
Hope he comes home soon. Smile

Helloooooo to everyone. Just come back from shopping. I bought some material for DD4s bedroom windows. I mis-read the price and thought I was getting a bargain at £2.99 a metre for really thick black/silver material, but when she rung it up I realised I had missed a 1, so it was £12.99 a metre. Bloomin expensive curtains!!!! £90!!! Can't believe what I did. How on earth am I going to tell DH???? He has only just started talking to me after the car incident. Blush I think I will just hibernate for a month and wake up when my brain is working normally.

Have a good weekend everyone. Smile

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 05/03/2011 11:27

PA - he was a resuce cat - we only got him at the end of January, and he'd been with the fosterer at CPL since September (in doors the entire time).

It was his first time out, he's 2 - scoffing his breakfast now that DS1 made him

nickelbabe · 05/03/2011 11:28

(mine was to PA)

PositiveAttitude · 05/03/2011 14:50

So pleased he's back Baroque.

Thanks Nickel. Now I need to make the bloomin things!! Eeeeeek. If it was cheap material I wouldn't worry, but now I am worried I will make a mess. I am even considering paying someone to make them, but is that me just going even more crazy!! Confused

Grin

i knwo what you mean! I did an HND in Fashion Technology, and I used to get the shakes every time I had to cut out, knowing i'd mess it up (you know, make 2 left sides etc).
Now I cut happily all the over the place (but still end up with 2 left sides etc!) Grin

PositiveAttitude · 05/03/2011 15:40

When my sister did an A-level needlework, on the final exam she cut out 2 left legs..... and failed!!!

nickelprincess · 05/03/2011 15:55

thank God I didn't have exams! Shock

I always make sure I have enough fabric to re-cut the ones I mess up! Grin

nickelprincess · 05/03/2011 15:58

I'm going to do a discussion with choirboy tomorrow about Lent.
I might make one of his Lent Objectives ("This Lent, to draw closer to God, I will..." ) to make more of an effort at choir practice.
Was talking to DH about it when he came in for lunch, and he said he was angry about it.
DH never gets angry.

I said I might think about explaining that he gets paid for being at practice, and how important it is (esp as he's had a couple of weeks where he wasn't at practice for one reason or other and complained how hard the service was because of it), and that if he doesn't start taking it seriously, we might have to stop paying him for being there.

MaryBS · 05/03/2011 16:01

DD is being awarded her dark blue medal tomorrow :)

Have just returned from the Cathedral, where I saw our new diocesan bishop installed. He seems very nice, down to earth with a GSOH :)

nickelprincess · 05/03/2011 16:03

[yeay]!

How wonderful, she must be very proud of her achievement.
Grin

essenceofSES · 05/03/2011 17:49

Thanks nickel, I've just popped over to the viroids!
I think you're right to say something to the choir boy. He needs to learn about taking responsibility and the impact he is having on others (IMHO!)

Mary - sorry if I'm being dense, but what is a dark blue medal?

Baroque - so glad your cat turned up!

PA - sorry about the curtains! I hope they'll be worth it in the end! I'm v impressed with your creative skills. I'd love to be better with a needle but I just don't seem to have the time or inclination at the moment Hmm

I'm hoping for a nice relaxing evening and then tomorrow DH suggested he cooks us a nice big lamb stew and we invite my parents over!

nickelprincess · 05/03/2011 17:51

I can answer the Dark Blue medal question!
it's a singing award - the RSCM (royal school of church music) does a scheme called Voice for Life - the Dark Blue medal is the result of the the 3rd stage.

MaryBS · 05/03/2011 17:52

Its an award by the Royal Society of Church Music (RSCM). Dark blue is the second level of proficiency (She already has the light blue medal).
