Religion Chat thread number 1

I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread.
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system.
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

it's Friday lunchtime - we're allowed a drink with our lunch

it's the little things in life that amuse us - new smileys....

Conversations move on a lot here! checking back in to get the thread up again. Should be tidying/cleaning really but it's a Friday afternoon :)

i like to laze around on Friday, cos i've got choir tonight and i'll be exhausted.

we're doing a Doxology from the Hideous book (number 560) a week on Sunday, so I thought I'd run through it with the chorister this week, just to get him used to it before we do it.
It's nice and simple, too.

Hello all hope you're enjoying your ! The church we work with here is quite strict about things like that so I shouldn't really butwehaveasecretstash--. I'm thinking about making dinner (2 hours ahead of you all) but having a little rest first . What is everyone doing this weekend? Anything interesting?

Except our methodist minister used to attend the United Alpha meetings (back in the days when it was just Methodist and Anglican together) and then go off to the pub with the Vicar

it's harsh - i don't think i could join a religion where booze isn't allowed. :(

If you'd asked me that before I hit "the age" i'd've said "good" cos I considered myself "teetotal apart from communion"

It's a baptist church but Moldovan Baptist rather than UK and there are quite some differences. My Mum was a Methodist minister so I grew up in that environment although we had alcohol at home.

It's for similar reasons as it was for Methodism as well (IIRC) as in social rather than theological (as far as I can work out). There is a huge problem with alcoholism here and not a culture of 'social' drinking (ie for pleasure rather than to get drunk) so I think it's easier for the church to set itself apart from that. I think it's interesting because although I can see why they have the rule I generally think that church rules should be biblically based

I thought the whole point of messy church was to be mad?

Have a lovely time - and we want a full report of the day/event when you've finished - I like these little chats, cos we get a proper analysis of the different types of services - then we can steal ideas share information.

By the way I met with another DCC member to talk about worship t'other night, and used many of your suggestions from further up the thread. We have got a list together and are going to produce a discussion document for the next meeting, feel v positive, so thanks for all the input, it has helped a lot :)

I'm supposed to be doing the church newsletter, and housework, and shopping, and need a shower........
