I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

OP posts:

creed

nickelthenaughtybutnicefairy · 02/02/2011 16:44

would that answer your problem, though?
i felt that you were worried that you were too non-demon.

nickelthenaughtybutnicefairy · 02/02/2011 16:44

non-denom !!
Shock

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 16:47

I don't know - it's all up ^ or >>> or maybe it's

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 16:49

oh yes - well actually I think they're officially part of the Assemblies of God......but not sure. Have been to a few services there in the past and really like it. (and I know the pastors wife as she's the music teacher at DS1's Junior school LOL - and her DD works at the infant school).

No - it's not that I feel non-denom - it's ermm, not sure, can't really explain it Confused

I really ought to be tidying and cooking dinner but you know Godly things are on my mind

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 16:54

MaryBS - that service looks lovely.

I don't know I guess I just have this "need" to reaffirm my faith (or affirm it? was it there before Confused)

nickelthenaughtybutnicefairy · 02/02/2011 16:58

baroque - do you feel maybe you have a calling ?
not that that's a good idea, cos you won't be allowed to be an organist/director of music anymore...

you found a website that no-one else has found or posted on except the person who set it up?? Oh - actually there's 2 articles by "dick" as well as admin Hmm

Rosie47 · 02/02/2011 18:09

Only found it yesterday, it's obviously new judging by the dates. I'm going to get involved I think. See how it goes.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 18:11

ahh right I see - obviously only one other person has so far - how did you find it??

Rosie47 · 02/02/2011 18:16

Found on Google yesterday. I have it set to "Religion" and filtered to "Latest" so that the latest pages to get indexed show as soon as they're added to Google.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 18:18

ahh - thought you perhaps knew the person who had set it up as you seem quite keen to promote a website that hasn't got much on it yet Grin

Rosie47 · 02/02/2011 18:23

That's the reason I'm keen. Seems a good opportunity to get in at the start of a new site.

Rosie47 · 02/02/2011 18:25

Also seems to be a good opportunity for us mums to have our say.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 18:28

ermm that's what we're doing here isn't it??

Loads of threads on MN about various religions.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 18:31

Quite a co-incidence that you find a website set up by the same person who set up the website that you found the funeral poem on (who is also co-incidentally the writer of the poem you linked to)

Wow - God moves in mysterious ways

madhairday · 02/02/2011 18:32

lol at non-demon Grin

TUO, I think you totally make sense, and honestly I really don't understand it all better, have been around the faith a looong time but learning every day, changing views, reviewing etc.

I was brought up in the C of E, my dad was a vicar, at first in quite a traditional church but then was called to a very rough estate in Birmingham and the church he led there looked very different, was very hard and eventually thrived and changed the whole feel of the community (and still does - amazing stories there.) So had quite a baptism of fire really in seeing God's power at work in the midst of some hideous stuff. I didn't really rebel, though I did decide at 14 I didn't want to do it any more, but then changed my mind at 15 Grin after a pretty awesome encounter with God.

I was confirmed at 11, and I actually firmly believe that it doesn't matter what age people are confirmed at, because faith can be as simple as a little child's or highly intellectual, God doesn't mind. We have admittance to communion at 7 in my church, but I'd be happy to give them the communion from birth (well weaning!) as I believe in God's grace at work and in a child's place in God's family through prayer and upbringing and all that.

Going off on a tangent here...

Rosie47 · 02/02/2011 18:43

"God moves in mysterious ways", not mysterious in this case. As a hobby I'm a Google hacker (Google can be filtered far more than the public interface suggests).

My Google is set to remember what I've found in the past, and especially to remember sites I've written on (like this one) and other sites I've mentioned (like the poem site, religion site etc).

My most used hack remembers all that and searches other site accordingly. It's precicely because I'd linked to Dick's poem in the past that Google came up with another site Dick had written on.

God moves in mysterious ways - and so does Google (Not that I'm comparing the two). It's just that in this case, I used Google not prayer, to find the site.

SnapFish · 02/02/2011 18:49

Rosie, it says on your profile that YOU founded 'www.godreligion1.com '

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 18:50

ahh right - I see. So that's why the poem that you've linked to twice is written by the person who owns the company that set up the funeral poems website, and also - it appears to have posted the only other articles on the GodReligion1 website that aren't by admin??

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 18:51

nah it doesn't snapfish - says she found it GrinWink

SnapFish · 02/02/2011 18:53

Oh Yeah! BlushGrin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 18:54

have to say you were really lucky to find a website that's exactly the sort of thing you're interested in. Comparative relgion and all that.

Although I fear your post on another thread that indicates that the website gives a proper overview of each religion is a little misguided - as the owner of the website admits that it's his own view as an outsider that he's written Smile

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 02/02/2011 19:07

oh btw - welcome snapfish - unless you're just flying by - however even if you are just flying by feel free to pop in whenver you want - we're quite friendly really despite all the God stuff Grin --and I've sent you a PM==
