I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

OP posts:

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 17:09

Bee there, done that!

I had the most horrible temper all my life - didn't matter what happened, what I did, I just used to lose it.
It made it worse if I mum said things like "you didn't say that to such-and-such did you?"
That was my flashpoint. :(

I couldn't tell you why I was like that, but I can tell you that I got bullied a lot, which didn't help.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 17:12

I don't think he's being bullied - well perhaps now he's being isolated by his peers a little - but I think that's a result of how he reacts when he doesn't get his own way plus getting friendly with children that aren't all that nice Hmm

There was some mild stuff in infants and I went to the school and it was sorted.

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 17:13

that PD9 looks just what I want, too!

Now, tell me one thing - can you rotate the video? I took a video on my phone when it was new and didn't realise that you had to hold the phone the right way round to get the video facing upwards when you played it on a computer/tv. (didn't realise it was like a proper video camera, because the screen turned around to the direction i was holding it, so it looked the right way round as i was shooting, instead of laying the video on its side Confused )

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 17:13

maybe it's self-perpetuating then? I think mine was. :(

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 17:16

I'm not sure - I haven't tried the rotate video - though I can have a play with it later tonight and let you know. As I've done exactly the same thing on a video on my camera, and Taf did the same on his phone - I have both videos uploaded onto my laptop so will see what you can do. I'm sure you probably can, obviously have to cut it and edit at the point it rotates (if you've been a numprty like me and started off in one direction and then moved the camera round midway through recording Grin).

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 17:20

ahhh - yes you can - just tried it - with a short clip - obviously still may have to cut and edit for the bit you want to rotate but you can rotate it.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 17:22

oooooooo very odd you can flip it left to right (like a mirror image) too.

I obviously did that while faffing as I've just watched the clip and looked at it and thought "eh that's not my living room the window/tv/tree are in the wrong place hehe)

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 17:24

lovely. I might have to order it. Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 18:00

it's great fun Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 27/01/2011 08:56

morning Smile

nickelbabysnatcher · 27/01/2011 10:22

morning Grin

I must make sure that DH remembers to check the psalm (which has been typed out and sent to him, 3 days ago....) this afternoon.
(just reminding myself)

How are things with your DC this morning?

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 27/01/2011 10:30

Boys were ok this morning, well medium ok, not brilliant, but certainly no-where near their worst.

Am having a slow start, after several nights of sleeping like a log, I've had a run of sleepless nights again.

HAve to go to town today to get "stuff" - all sorts of bits and pieces - very random - thinking I may write a list and leave it in the trolley at Morrisons and see if anyone from MN finds it Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 27/01/2011 10:33

ooooo yes and last night I mentioned the CSI Jersulaem thing to my friend that I do the hymns with (former chuch warden, and almost licenced Lay Reader) - she thought it sounded fabulous. Which is good news - as usually if she thinks things I find are good the Vicar does too Grin

nickelbabysnatcher · 27/01/2011 10:42

The sleepless nights will be the worry. I don't know what to suggest to help - it's good that you've been sleeping better, generally, though, isn't it?

The list thing might help you sleep! Grin I love a good shopping list thread. Grin

Ooh, positive! Sounds like you've got Holy Week all planned already! We haven't even got February planned! Shock

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 27/01/2011 10:46

worry??? about what - oh stuff mentioned further up you mean?? [confused - nah it's just insomnia. It comes and goes, it's like the British weather, I don't know from one day to the next what it'll be like.

Yes Holy Week coming together - although she reminded me last night ( I did already know but had forgotton) there's some huge Churches Together thing on the Good Friday evening, so our "Good Friday" thing will actually be earlier in Holy Week - not that it really matters.

Half "traditional" Good Friday things aways end up with him already being risen Grin

We got Feb hymns planned last night.

nickelbabysnatcher · 27/01/2011 11:40

I can never work out whether Churches Together is a good idea when there's something big happenign anyway - I think it should be when there's a general lull, just so that noone's stepping on anyone's toes.

but that's just me... Grin

thanksamillion · 27/01/2011 12:30

Hello everyone. How successful are your Churches Together? Or maybe how active is a better question. I think it's a really good witness when the churches can work together. It sounds like yours are doing quite a lot??

nickelbabysnatcher · 27/01/2011 12:44

ours aren't successful - others might be.

Ours tend to get overshadowed by the happy-clappy church - once we were there as choir but didn't get to sing anything except hymns, when the H-C church got to do music stuff with guitars.
woudln't have been so bad, but it was in our building.

nickelbabysnatcher · 27/01/2011 12:44

(our deanery hasn't quite got the hang of the word together ) Hmm

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 27/01/2011 13:50

sorry am faffing around doing RL stuff today - have read posts, inwardly digested and will reply later Grin

madhairday · 27/01/2011 13:53

Our churches together doesn't really happen, tbh. I did live in one town where it worked really well and most of the churches in the town came together for prayer meetings etc, but there were always some that liked to be independent and refused to have anything to do with other churches Hmm

nickelbabysnatcher · 27/01/2011 13:55

when we get the Team Ministry thing, we'll have to do churches together.
I just hope that they recognise the different styles and let them flourish rather than try a "one size fits all" approach. Luckily, I think, the area Dean is a traditionalist (but his church isn't included in our Team, cos he's a village parish)

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 28/01/2011 09:07

Right am here, had a pretty awful day yesterday with DS1. New day today, another new start with him.

Our Churches Together are petty good I think. They have occasional united servces at the different churches. During Lent they do a serioues of Lenten study things which each church takes it's turn to do it.

The week of prayer for Christian Unity we've just had each church (or most of them) had a night when they held a prayer meeting in their own church.

Plus they do other stuff such as Homeless Sunday this week they've organised a service at the Daylight Centre (homeless drop in place supported by the churches in town) in the afternoon. They do a walk of witness and united service in the town centre on Good Friday morning too. Plus there's the town Alpha as well.

thanksamillion · 28/01/2011 09:45

Sorry you had a bad day with DS1 Baroque hopefully today will be better Smile

I do think it's good when the churches together actually is because to most people outside the whole denomination thing is very confusing. Squabbling about who is more right is so not helpful - but it is more common than not I think.

Where we are there is basically only the Baptist church (who we work with although neither of us are from a Baptist background), the Pentecostal Church (who think the Baptists are wrong, and who the Baptists think are wrong) and the Orthodox Church which out in the villages is far more like a folk religion and less like anything recognisably Christian (I'm not saying that there aren't Orthodox believers who are Christians, just that for most people here is much more a tradition/superstition than a living faith). So no one works with anyone else which i think is a big shame Sad
