I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

OP posts:

yes yes - I mucked up the link because of being in a bit of a dither as it was talking to ME

.

Grin

don't worry - I would heartily recommend Bible Gateway to anyone - it's brilliant (when you're not in grabbing distance of a bible).
and it amazes me how many different translations there are on there!

madhairday · 26/01/2011 16:20

So you know the Power Director thingy, is it much better than Windows Movie Maker? I tend to use that (or PowerPoint) Haven't yet worked out how to put PowerPoints into YouTube - only vid I have uploaded to there is 4th down when you put in 'New wine 2010' Grin which was done on movie maker. It's a nice programme to use but I'm looking for more professional looking stuff now, PowerPoint really annoys me with timings etc going out of kilter and some of the animations looking crap.

Sorry for getting techy

Baroque off to look at yours!

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 16:23

Windows Movie Maker is rubbish, that i've seen of it.
the version that comes with Vista is very basic and you can't do any real editting.

I only have experience of ULead (which is now Corel).
but I looked at Baroque's link and it looks very good, actually. (i do realise your question is aimed at Baroque, but i wanted to tell you about moviemaker being rubbish Blush )

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 16:23

oh yes - I love biblegateway - I often use it. I do have my trusty Good News bible (was brought up and confirmed in the Methodist church, and it's the one I got on my confirmation) on the shelf at the end of the sofa.....but that still involves getting up and moving. So bible gateway does the trick for me.

I tried another translation hoping that wasn't also talking to be......and that had "choirmaster" -

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 16:28

well = I did discover WMM after I'd used PowerDirector for the first time and tbh I could't do as much with it.

I think my "World Crying Out for Unity" one is probably the best I've done so far.

That started out as

Still images, an MP4 file I converted to MP3 (for the audio), and the words I did by using powerpoint (as I had it open) putting a text box in, using the text fill option in green, and then saving the text boxes as images.

I then used chroma key and the PiP editing options in PD to put the words on like that.

The actual subtitling is pretty limited (the words on my first video "How Long" was doing using the subtitles in the programme).

I'm looking for an easier way to do the text........

PD has LOTS of transition and effects options, plus all sorts of ways to set the timings exact.

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 16:29

You're being called to be a choirmaster! Shock

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 16:32

haha you are funny - I needed that laugh - if you've seen my latest status update on FB.......

(not to mention this morning with DS3)

I would actually rather like to crawl into a corner and sleep to escape right now.

Supposed to have a meeting to plan hymns tonight - I'm not sure I'm up to it, been such a draining day.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 16:33

Have to say - going back to PD, I'm pleased with the money I spent on it. It looks horrendously complicated when you first open it (and since updating to the current version I'm still getting to grips with which format to save in Grin), but is actually quite simple.

madhairday · 26/01/2011 16:33

Will look into it. Is it expensive?

The new WMM you get with windows 7 is better I think - a fair few more options, as I used on that Youtube video, easier to use than the old one too but not as much scope as I'd ideally like.

Just looked at your Stuart Townend one - great :)

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 16:40

I have WMM with windows 7..........

I upgraded to the highest 32 bit one as I only have 32bit lap top Grin (PD9 I think it was) direct from their webste that I was linked to. But I think you can get it cheaper from play/amazon etc.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 16:47

although actually I'm not sure if my version is available in the UK yet as I downloaded it direct from the cyberlink website in the US Grin

looks like I might have got first dibs Wink as when I check which version I have on the help thing it says Power Director Deluxe V9.

Yet on Amazon you can only pre-order it hehe

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 16:48

ahhh! you've got naughty children! Shock
Wink only joking - why would they think this is an important matter? Shock

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 16:51

ah, now, the thing about cyberlink from US - i did wonder that when I went to their website - it only said Deluxe V9 and i thought "that looks too high tech for what she was describing"

Don't worry about the hymn meeting - think of it as a welcome release from your crappy day.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 16:51

think what was an important matter Confused

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 16:51

and now i've read the whole update.
sorry to hear about that :(

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 16:52

lunchtime detention - sorry, i didn't read the whole update when I posted that - lastest post is better. Blush

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 16:52

well it probably sounds more high tech because I'm not very good at describing techincal stuff Grin it's all doodah's, whatsits, and thingymajigs round here - even though I can do very fancy stuff with it.

madhairday · 26/01/2011 16:53

ooh found PD 8 on amazon for £24, is there much difference between 8 and 9? Have to say it sounds fab and just what I'm looking for. Does it have powerpoint type animating words sequences etc? (sorry if that is such a thick question!)

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 16:55

ahh I see Smile

apparently they usually only get detention for 3 "offences" (talking in class, not doing homework, general silly behavoiur), or an automatic one for more serious stuff.......

I think because they do have a lot of children that make their own way home from school, and those that do get picked up get tipped out into the playground without teachers they just want to make sure that parents are aware if detention has been had..........as I'm not sure many children would volunteer the information Wink

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 16:56

that's why i didn't think it would be serious - I remember getting lunchtime lines just for shouting in class or forgetting homework, that kind of thing at juniors.
Sorry - it must feel crap.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 16:59

I'm not sure of the difference between 8 and 9 - I made a massive leap from V7 (I think basic edition) to Deluxe V9.

I'm sure there must be an easier way to do the animated text than the way I've done it - I just haven't figured it out yet Grin

What I've done (which actually doesn't take too long) is create a text box in powerpoint, save it as an image (with a colour fill in such as green or blue). imported the image into PD, used Chroma key to remove the background and then fiddled with it in there.

All the text on the World in Unity video were transported from powerpoint as images.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 17:00

yeah (back to detention again sorry) usually those things they get a detention after 3 repeats of the "offence" (and even then I'd like to know).

nickelbabysnatcher · 26/01/2011 17:02

fair enough - it sounds like he might have a problem with spitting (esp if your other DS has seen it happen before). Is he attention-seeking, maybe?

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 26/01/2011 17:04

I think he has a problem with his temper in general Sad
