I am thinking of getting a dog but all the re homing sites I have looked at seem to not want to rehome to a house with young children .

Is this the same across the board ? I have got a nearly 4 yr old and a 6 yr old .

We liked the idea of getting a dog from a rescue centre rather than from a breeder but it looks like we might not be able .

Or am I looking in the wrong places ?

Any help really appreciated . TIA .

I've sent an email to my primary contacts and to a rescue in your county (I'm not stalking you, but checked your whereabouts by clicking the link on your name!). Have explained that you are serious about your interest and are willing to spend time considering and learning and that you want more info before speaking further with your DH, who already is enthusiastic about owning a dog.

I've asked anyone who might be able to advise/suggest a dog or a family friendly rescue to contact me in the first instance. If you'd like to email me at alfaalfa AT live DOT co DOT uk, I'll cc you into that email, give you my phone number if you'd like a chat (no obligaton!) and forward any replies. No promises that I'll get any but I can but try!

I'm trying to forward the email to my "secondary" list of contacts but my damn system doesn't seem to want to play ball. Will keep trying!

If you do email me please let me know here as I keep forgetting to check the alfaalfa email address - it's one specially set up for things like this, not my usual one (will give you that if you mail me), just used for avoidance of spam and anonimity's sake.

Hope this helps.

Val

Good news!

I've had a couple of responses - one rescue which would help and which will let me know if a suitable dog comes along, another which might have some possibilities and which would be delighted to talk with you, offer advice and take it from there if you're happy to.

So, if that helps, please do email me. Am in the throes of moving house at the mo so please bear with me and as I said, if you do email me let me know you've done so on here.

Hope this helps.

Val.

PS bedlam has a good point... one of my fellow volunteers at the rescue I help at is a homechecker for Great Dane Rescue. So, if you're up for a big, friendly slobber monster, let me know and I'll ask her to get in touch with you.
