My curly coated retriever has had 2 limb corrective surgeries in the last 8 weeks. The first one didn't work.

Here is the dilemma he has been on ACP for 8 weeks now and i am trying really hard not to give them to him unless he really needs them.

He is going stir cazy, he is on house arrest and not supposed to be doing much at all. I have given him soft toys as he likes to shred them, but everything else is designed to keep a dog active. What else can i do to elevate some of the boredom?

He is only just 2 and full of beans, and i also have an 18 month old lurcher who doesn't really help in the still stakes! The curly one is locked in the kitchen.

he is not food orientated so can't even make him work for his food. Also he hasn't exercised for 8 weeks so not hungry!

AAAARRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

thanks bella, haven' tried a kong full of gravy, but hat sounds like something that could work for him, Silly questuion but does it matter what gravy i use?

His food has been really reducded, in fact the lurcher eats more than him now! (but then he is still in the mindset of all thpse months he was a stray, only had him 3 months).

I am going to try the tug a jug aswell.

thanks for those, and i think you should have a curly puppy, in fact i think everyone should, we need to get thier numbers up .

Smellier the better, morethan - the gravy that is! No, doesn't really matter although you don't want anything too salty obviously - but with a big dog like him it's not such a consideration.

If you have the stomach for it I'd probably boil up a concoction of liver, fish, ham - anything really pongy and use that.

I give mine some kongs stuffed with nothing more than boiled rice and tuna (complete with oil/brine), then frozen, and they have to work for ages at them. I find normally stuffed, dry and unfrozen kongs don't last 5 minutes. Not in my house anyway

BellasSparklyBaubles · 19/12/2009 10:24

oooh - tripe. Tripe is good! Mega pongy - can be bought in freezer cabinets in pet shops.

morethanyoubargainfor · 19/12/2009 10:36

Cool! (no pun intended )

BitOfFunderthemistletoe · 19/12/2009 12:05

Bella! Happy Christmas! Can you check my anti-histamine thread for me while you're around?

BellasSparklyBaubles · 19/12/2009 12:06

Have replied on your thread, BOF. Honestly, it's safest and easiest just to call your vet for a quick, free chat.

Merry Christmas

morethanyoubargainfor · 19/12/2009 12:23

will let you know how it goes!

Have put a few biscuits in with gravy so he will have to take even longer to devour as he eats very delicately, one biscuit at a time!

Still awaiting Minimu's confirmation that her woofas do her typing. Teaching the shift key must be tricky, don't you think? Do you use forward or backward chaining for that, Minimu?

morethanyoubargainfor · 19/12/2009 12:48

I agree! I am sure they do everything in thier house! .

maybe they are clever enough to not need th eshift key. .

Are you saying they use voice recognition software, morethan?

That is impressive

morethanyoubargainfor · 19/12/2009 13:44

it wouldn't surprise me, would it you

morethanyoubargainfor · 19/12/2009 15:51

maybe they have staff to work the mouse?!

she won't kill us if we tell her how wonderful she is!

I will start, LOVE YOU MINIMU, MWAH MWAH MWAH.
