3quick puppy q's. Car travel, length of walk and 'down' command?

Hi all,

I have a 13 wk old Bichon Poo puppy (Dolly) who is doing really well - no mess in kitchen at night - haven't had to clean up a wee inside for over a week and she is starting to respond to a few commands with treats. (we are working hard on the nipping as she does loves to hang off my toes with her mouth!)

I have 3 questions - any answers much appreciated:

  1. I have been told to walk her 5 mins per month of life - ie for 15 mins, but is that per day or x 2 / 3 walks a day
  1. I really want her to travel well in the car and come out with us as much as possible. She has been sick a few times in the car. Do I just keep taking her out for short runs as much as poss til she gets used to it? (I have been taking her in the car to the local field for walks as she would be too tired by the time we walked there and back).
  1. What command do you give them when you want them to get down - i.e. off something or someone. I use 'down' to get her from sitting to the lying position which she is learning well. But what then do you say if they jump up maybe when on a walk or in the car etc?

Thanks

  1. per day

2.loads of really short rides in the car. so short that she isn't sick and gradually build up. Great to associate ride in the car with something fun at the end. Hopefully she will grow out of it.

  1. I say down to lie down on the floor.
Off if they jump onto something.

I say 'off' if they jump up on anything or anyone. Which of course they don't as they are so well trained in awe of me.
