Do I need to take the dog to the vet for this?

Bloody silly, careless DD has slammed to back door on the dog's leg. Dog screamed (greyhound, so very good at screaming at the slightest bump) and limped for a minute but is walking fine now. On closer inspection there is a big graze/small cut on her leg. The skin has come off in an area about 5cm x 2cm and I can see flesh. It doesn't look deep (just lie skin surface only has come off) and isn't bleeding but I can see red flesh/blood. It doesn't seem to be bothering her. I think I overreact with the dog sometimes, I rushed her to the vet last week thinking she'd collapsed and it turned out she had cramp.

If in doubt, give them a ring

I agree, ring and ask for advice.

Thanks. I did and they said if not limping and not actively bleeding then to keep an eye on it and ring them if it gets worse. I thought they'd just tell me to come in so they could see it and charge me a consultation fee! I'm sure I'm going to make my vet a millionaire.

Vets usually very happy to advise over phone (ask to speak to a vet nurse if you can) and won't usually drag you in unless necessary or they can't be sure over the phone how bad it is.

Not all money grabbers, honest

Having had long experience with vets I'm afraid I feel that they are all money grabbers. Sometimes they have you over a barrel. I have changed vets because I don't like the hard sell for products and services I didn't ask for and don't want.
