Doggiesayswoof is getting a puppy

Oh yes

Despite around 80% of advice being anti-puppy with a baby, we have decided to just go for it anyway.

Pup is incredibly sweet (of course) border terrier bitch, currently 6 weeks old. We pick her up in 2 weeks.

DH and I have both been there and done that with the whole "waiting for the right time to live your life" thing and it's not for us any more.

Having said that, we are wary and a bit worried about what might go wrong and we've been devouring puppy books for the past fortnight.

Congratulations!

Will be the first to admit I was probably one of the ones who said 'you're mad' but I do always like to paint as bleak a picture as possible.

Then if the person still goes for it - they must really want a dog!

Keep us posted

We really really want one. DH is ready for all the little accidents.

When we told DD she said "you mean... NOT WITH BATTERIES?" Her eyes were like saucers.

oh pmsl at dd's comment! good luck with it all. I found this book
excellent.

doggiesayswoof · 20/05/2009 16:53

Thanks hatwoman, I may get that book. I've read Gwen Bailey's puppy book already. In theory it all sounds fine...

I have a border terrier, they are fantastic little dogs and very good with children. Enjoy your new puppy!

differentID · 20/05/2009 18:43

Border terriers are lovely-my sister has 2.

doggiesayswoof · 20/05/2009 20:11

They are lovely little dogs aren't they? My friend always had borders growing up, and she and her sisters would dress them up and wheel them about in dolls' prams.

(Not that I'm advocating that sort of thing - give a dog a bit of dignity I say)

We posted a cuddly toy to the dog lady yesterday so it gets all smelly. Hope it helps the pup to have a familiar scent for the first days.

My sister is planning on breeding her 2. Girl got pregant recently, but there was only one ginormous puppy in there, instead of the 3/4 expected, that didn't survive. Vet's said that it happens quite often and that there should be no problems later on.
They're almost a portable size of dog as well.
Make sure you get lots of chew toys and you may need a lock for the bin/ laundry basket.

Oh, I missed this! Congratulations

(Like Bella I tend to paint it black but I cannot resist talk of small puppies>

Hope it all goes really well for you, I will be on the look out for updates

Hi - congratulations .

We got a Minature Schnauzer puppy (now 10 weeks) 2 weeks ago and its one of the best things we have ever done! We also have two boys who are 2 and 5 which I was abit worried about beforehand, but its been working out really well. Just can't wait until he can go out for a walk.

Have you got a cage/crate? I have found that invaluable for when I go out or need to leave the room for a short while so hes not alone with my toddler.

doggiesayswoof · 21/05/2009 15:13

gegs it's good to hear you say that! We have a crate. It was delivered today - just need to work out where it should go.

Kingcanute thanks! I will no doubt be on here a fair bit with daft questions and trivial updates when the big day comes.

Ooh good, I love silly questions - I can cope with them, it is the tricky ones I can't handle

newpup · 21/05/2009 19:00

Congratulations!

The crate will be a godsend!! Buy lots of puppy toys to chew and destroy! And be firm, start as you mean to go on, regarding jumping and nipping especially with DCs.

Our puppy is one this week and we adore her and can not imagine life without her now!

Enjoy!
