Our cat has fallen out the window.

DD1's bedroom window was open yesterday. She was tormenting the cat, cat was on windowsill and DD1 pushed her!

LunaghCat fell about 15 feet. Not sure if she hit anything but landed with an almighty crash..
She's bolted, and I cannot find her anywhere. She's not coming when called and I've been out looking for her today and not even heard a miaow.

She's not even a year old yet. I just want my cat back. Not seen her since yesterday afternoon.
This isn't looking good is it? I'm worried she's hurt her legs and can't jump to get home...and the shock factor too. She's not eaten since yesterday afternoon either.

She's probably licking her wounds somewhere and will tootle home with her nose in the air in a day or so.

I've had a cat fall off the bedroom window sill and he bolted too. He came back the next day trying to pretend that it hadn't happened. the only thing badly bruised was his pride.

DD1 (not sure how old she is) needs to be ready with treats and fusses for the cat, although the cat may understandably be too pee'd off to go near her for a while.

Good luck.

LilRedWG · 23/03/2009 12:18

Oh, let your neighbours know tooso they can keep an eye out for him.

gizmo · 23/03/2009 12:19

I'm so sorry, but I don't think it looks good. An injured animal will often find somewhere to hide which is pretty counterproductive if you want to get them treated.

You must be livid. How old is your DD? I know my DS was so impulsive when he was younger that he would have been capable of doing that (seems to be growing out of it now thank goodness) but nonetheless I think that sort of thing has to shown to be unacceptable in the clearest possible way.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 23/03/2009 12:20

Oh, Purpleone, how awful for you. One of our kittens vanished last night and turned up safe and well this morning. We had made up some posters and put them up and also called local vets who said they would circulate a lost and found form with the details so if anyone brought him in they could contact us. Perhaps you should try that?
If the cat was able to run off, she may not be badly hurt though.

barbiehouse · 23/03/2009 12:21

have you tried the local vets - most likely place to be taken if she's been found.

GivePeasAChance · 23/03/2009 12:21

My nana used to throw her cats out of the window if she found them upstairs They were all fine.

But understand the worry and hope she's OK. LilRed is prob right !

PurpleOne · 23/03/2009 12:21

My DD is nearly 14, so she's old enough to know better!

Going to go down the local vets now and see if she's in there....

BarStoolCobra · 23/03/2009 12:21

I once saw mine fly past the window.
was fine.

KingCanuteIAm · 23/03/2009 12:21

Get your dd1 out searching for the cat, give her a bag of treats and get her to comb every street corner, look under every bush until either cat comes home or she finds it.

She will learn from your concern about the right way to see/behave towards a cat, she will lose her free time which will act as a punishment (although a light one) for her silliness and it will reasure you that everything possible is being done to bring poor puss home!

I agree though, puss will hopefully turn up when she is good and ready!

gizmo · 23/03/2009 12:22

Yup at 14 she should know better.

Did the sky fall on her head when you found out what had happened?

magnolia74 · 23/03/2009 12:22

Oh no

Fingers crossed she is fine but please keep going out and calling her at the quietest times possible. I say this because years ago our cat went missing.... I searched everywhere and on the 3rd day went late evening and called for ages.....I heard a meiow and she was curled up in a bush. Turned out she had been hit by a car and fractured her pelvis. She was fine after surgery but if I had given up calling she wouldn't have made it home

I know I sound like I'm giving worse case senario but if she is hurt you need to keep looking.

good luck xx

KingCanuteIAm · 23/03/2009 12:23

Purpleone, 14

I would be sooo cross

gizmo · 23/03/2009 12:23

Oh I like King Canute's suggestion, much more nuanced than the Shock and Awe I had in mind!

oxocube · 23/03/2009 12:24

Hope she turns up safely. Not sure I would trust my child again with the cat though - am very shocked at your dd. If she were 3 or 4, Iwould have more sympathy but 13 FFS

Anyway, rant aside, I hope you have happy news.

PurpleOne · 23/03/2009 12:24

Just a bit Gizmo. I think there must've been a couple of aeroplanes in there too!

gizmo · 23/03/2009 12:27

If she's got savings/pocket money I would suggest using the magic phrase 'paying the Vet's Bill'.

That might also concentrate her mind a little.

PurpleOne · 23/03/2009 12:28

Took DD2 to the docs this morning. She is in bits about mog. She helped me look for her when we got back home. I had to force her to school, otherwise she'd be stood there all day shaking the life out the box of Go-Cat.
I can't explain how I feel about DD1 though - really hard to put into words.

Coat is on. Going to the local vets now and hammer on a few front doors....

OP posts:
KingCanuteIAm · 23/03/2009 12:30

Aww, poor dd2, it is rotten for her and you! Does dd1 have any remorse, does she feel upset when she sees dd2 upset or is she more of an Animals are Animals type of person?

wannaBe · 23/03/2009 12:32

I would come down like a ton of bricks and she would be grounded for a month plus have all television/computer privilages removed and mobile phone confiscated and no pocket money.

As for the cat, mine used to regularly jump out of upstairs windows before we had a cat flap

I remember the first time i discovered she'd jumped out of a window I was positive something horrible must have happened to her, so imagine my joy when I opened the back door and she sauntered in.

The only downside is that your cat won't have been expected to fall so won't have been prepared for it, and that is when injury often occurs.

So you do need to keep looking, and in actual fact I would be telling dd that her pocket money will be going towards paying the vet bill.

Nabster · 23/03/2009 12:33

Any news?

I would go round all the neighbours, put notes through if out, ring the vets and cats home and ground your DD for a very long time.

LilRedWG · 23/03/2009 12:46

I'd presumed DD1 was a lot younger. I definitely second the paying vets bill and maybe even some voluntary service at a local vet/cat shelter etc. Is this out of character for her?

I hope that your DD2 is okay and that you have some happy news soon.

Confuzzeled · 23/03/2009 12:49

My step dad sneezed once and his dd's cat got such a fright she fell off a second floor balcony.

She hid for 2 days but came home when she was hungry.

My step dad was very relieved.

Keep looking though. Shake those treats.

I obviously think what your dd did was wrong, but if your cat is missing she'll have to deal with that guilt forever. Sometimes we do stupid things when we're teenagers.

gizmo · 23/03/2009 12:50

Hey KC, I'd say I'm an 'Animals are Animals' kinda person, but it doesn't mean I'd throw a cat out of a window!

(touchy, moi?)

GivePeasAChance · 23/03/2009 12:53

ROFL at the sneeze

KingCanuteIAm · 23/03/2009 12:56

Gizmo, I didn't mean it like that (but I am sure you know that anyway) I was attempting to politely, non-judgmentally and sensitively probe for a bit more info from the op so as I could attempt to be more helpful.
I am not sure that dd1 did 'throw' the cat out of the window as such, I think it is a bit unfair to apply that conclusion openly!

touchy back at ya
