Our cat has fallen out the window.

DD1's bedroom window was open yesterday. She was tormenting the cat, cat was on windowsill and DD1 pushed her!

LunaghCat fell about 15 feet. Not sure if she hit anything but landed with an almighty crash..
She's bolted, and I cannot find her anywhere. She's not coming when called and I've been out looking for her today and not even heard a miaow.

She's not even a year old yet. I just want my cat back. Not seen her since yesterday afternoon.
This isn't looking good is it? I'm worried she's hurt her legs and can't jump to get home...and the shock factor too. She's not eaten since yesterday afternoon either.

Ooops, sorry KC, rather blown your cover there, haven't I?

Ahem. As you were, people, just ignore my last post.

KingCanuteIAm · 23/03/2009 13:06

Nothing to see here!

ingles2 · 23/03/2009 13:13

Oh No! poor cat
Any sign of her?
How is your dd1 feeling about the whole thing now?

OrmIrian · 23/03/2009 13:19

Poor mog

Please let us know when you find her.

PurpleOne · 23/03/2009 15:35

No news yet

Is this merely a coincidence? At the vets, the nurse took 'missing cat' details.
The previous cat noted as missing is the cat 3 doors down from us.

It's pouring with rain out there right and and am having horrid thoughts about my cat under a bush, injured and soaking through.
Nobody's seen her.
I will update on the DD1 issue when she's home from school. She has tried to do it before, but thankfully both windows were open and when LunaghCat was pushed, she got back in through the other window. This time it was closed, being an outward opening window, I couldn't get to her.

Why on earth is a 13 year old trying to push a cat out of the window?

PurpleOne · 23/03/2009 17:33

I really don't know Nab, but I have thrown a ton of bricks at her. She's grounded for a month and no treats. It's still raining here and I've made her go out and look for LunaghCat herself. Told her to start saving up, in case the cat is injured.
I've also warned her that if anything ever happens like this again, she WILL be having a slap.

I saw the look of terror on that cats face as she fell, that will stay with me for a very long time - and DD1 just seems so bloody 'whatever' about it. I have threatened that I will be rehoming her guinea pigs. That didn't go down well.

OP posts:
catinthehat1 · 23/03/2009 18:05

Purple - can you rehome the guinea pigs for the moment? Something sounds not right with DD1 at present and you say this isn't an isolated incident. Can you send the piggies away for a bit until you work out what's going on? Would be sad if she did something cruel as an adolescent that she would regret for a very long time.

ingles2 · 23/03/2009 18:12

I don't want to make you feel any worse Purpleone, but that's really awful... and you say she's tried it before!
Has she tried this sort of thing with any other pet that you know of, or is it just the cat?
The worse thing is the lack of concern. I might even approach the doctor/psych about this. Really sorry for you. What an awful situation to be in.

bella29 · 23/03/2009 18:16

Didn't she do something similar to this cat last week when the cat was in season?

BarStoolCobra · 23/03/2009 18:19

Id be taking my dd to an Ed Pysch for tormenting cats?
very very odd

LilRedWG · 23/03/2009 18:41

I must admit that I'd be chatting to my GP about this as it's not a one-off occurance. I would also definitely re-home the piggies, even if just temporarily.

I hope the puss turns up soon.

giraffescantdancethetango · 23/03/2009 18:52

Hope cat turns up

oxocube · 23/03/2009 19:29

PurpleOne, i have (and love) animals and was very harsh earlier. I have since searched your posts as I felt that your situation was 'troubled': you are obviously all going through a hell of a time ATM and I pray that things wil get easier for you. Having said that, please rehome your existing animals and if poor cat turns up, find it a home where it will be safe.

MollieO · 23/03/2009 19:33

If your cat comes back I would strongly suggest you get her and your other pets rehomed. I can't quite believe that a 14 yr old can behave so cruelly. If it were any child of mine I'd be taking active steps to sort out her behaviour, more than just grounding her etc.

oxocube · 23/03/2009 19:38

MollieO, if you look at PurpleOne's previous posts, you will discover (as I did) that her family life is far from easy/normal just now. I still agree re the rehoming but it made me less judgemental in general

MollieO · 23/03/2009 19:42

Haven't read any other posts on this so based my comments purely on OP on this thread. If this has happened before (as one of the later posts on this thread suggested) then even more of a reason to rehome pets.

FlorenceDaphne · 23/03/2009 20:03

Unfortunately, the cat is probably curled up somewhere, dead, or dying from internal injuries. I hope you find it and that this isn't the case.

Does DD1 have special needs? Does she understand the enormity of her actions? WHY did she push the cat out the window? Jeez, this makes me mad.

PurpleOne · 23/03/2009 20:12

bella29 - yes she did something similar previously. Cat was having her first season and managed to keep her in all week. DD1 kept opening the downstairs window and encouraging her to go out, then shutting the window as soon as mog jumped up. She didn't shut the window in time, and LunaghCat shot out, much to the delight of the tabby that was looking on. So she could be pregnant too.

I've taken her to the doctors, we've had family therapy...even the Family worker didn't seem all that bothered when she arrived last week. I know this sounds really cruel, and it's not meant the way it sounds IYSWIM, but the cat has got off lightly really. Her sister gets the brunt of most of it. And I get sworn at and told to fuck off.

I got a brief glimpse of mog in another garden earlier. She had her paw up and was limping so she prob hurt her paw / leg when she fell. I cannot get her in just yet, I've been calling her all day, but at least I know she's alive.

morningpaper · 23/03/2009 20:17

gosh that's awful

Can you get prosecuted at that age?

Personally I would think about re-homing ALL the pets. Have you got a grandparent or somethig that might take them?

Sorry you are having so much trouble.

Jux · 23/03/2009 20:22

Can you rehome dd1? (Sorry, shouldn't be flippant, but why rehome the pets when none of them are at fault?)

Glad the cat's alive, but, having seen her, someone needs to go out and get her. She may need treatment, and the longer that's put off the harder it'll be.

KingCanuteIAm · 23/03/2009 20:43

PO, it sounds like a terrible situation to be in, I am glad you have at least seen puss. I would be very worried about dd1 and it is obvious that you are. I wouldn't let her get away with it, but you are obviously not. I cannot think what else to suggest. Teenagers can be a minefield at the best of times!

I hope things get better soon and puss comes home none the worse for her trials!

I have no idea what else has gone on for you but I would be careful about making major changes like rehoming your pets if you and your family have been through changes. (Although I do like the idea of rehoming the guinea pigs [temporarily]. Dd1 has taken away your/dd2s pet [temporarily] so perhaps direct intervention style may be in order?)

ingles2 · 23/03/2009 20:49

Sorry to refer to another thread PO, but have you had any outcome from your last doctors appt? If not, can you chase them? Have you spoken with camhs at all?
Your dd sounds like a troubled girl at the moment, poor thing. Push hard for referrals.
Is there anything we can do to help you?

bella29 · 23/03/2009 22:20

Don't know the rest of your story, PO, but just wanted to say I hope your cat's okay and that everything else gets sorted out too.

LilRedWG · 23/03/2009 22:28

Sorry that you all seem to be having a crap time of it lately PO. I'm glad that you've seen the cat and know that she's still around. Good luck with convincing her to come home and to the vets.
