My daughter is begging me for guinea pigs - i am not convinced... Advice please!!!!

My dd aged 9 who is a lovely caring girl with 3 pet hamsters and 2 chickens under her belt now wants 2 guinea pigs!

I did enquire at pet shop but owner made it sound complicated i.e. in terms of hutch, run and general care.

Can someone give me the low down please on what I would need and do they need the vets often!

I think GPs are fantastic pets for children and am a real convert,ours are very gentle are happy to be handled,don't scurry like hamsters and are very easy to look after.We have a standard hutch with a run underneath,some people keep them inside but I have always thought of them as outside pets.We bring them inside the shed in the really cold months.Theyhave wood shavings and hay in the hutch and get fed twice a day,a mixture of dry food and fresh veg plus water.In the summer they go out in the run ,we have an upturned veg rack box for house in thir run and the children sometimes spend their pocket money on tunnels etc .

Can defo recommend them!
