The Dog Keeps Jumping On to The Kitchen Table!!!!

She is 5 months old and a real jumper!!
We need to have the table in the kitchen as we don't have a dining room. She just jumps from the floor straight onto the table which is hip height!!
Have tried putting thinks on the table to block access but she pulls it all down
If I have the table clear she gets up and sleeps on it!!

That sounds like my cat, except the only place she can go that the children can't is the windowsill .
Is she well behaved otherwise, I mean, no training problems?

Well she is only 5 months so she is as well behaved as any other puppy I guess. I found her this afternoon on a pile of clothes on the table like a cat!! We have 2 cats and I wonder if she has an identity problem

I have tried moving the table around but She actually clears the backs of the chairs to get up!!! She is only Knee height but boy can she jump!

What if she jumps higher and can get on the work surfaces!!!

We can't put her anywhere but the kitchen coz she can jump the stairgates Even the bloody dog one

She has a crate at night but Has free run of the Kitchen if I need her out of the front room for any reason!!

The stupid thing is one of my cats acts like a dog so maybe ist just role reversal

she sounds like a sweetie! If her jumping up bothers you, why don't you try putting noisy metal stuff on the table that would clatter down around her when she does jump - not saucepans because they could hurt her, but maybe you could save some tins (no sharp lids attached), rinse them out and pile them up - maybe on a "slippery" table cloth that she's likely to pull off too (and be unable to get a grip). It might take a few goes, and a few piles per go, but could be effective?

Our neighbours have a little lab that does this, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw her sitting happy as larry on their dining room table. They have cats too - I'm sure there's a link! My lab is far too clumsy to get up there.

This made me laugh. I have this image in my mind of your puppy jumping up on the table!
My dog used to jump up on the garden table when he was younger. Have never actually seen him doing it but used to find him curled up on the table! As he's such a big dog, i was convinced he'd break something one day or the table would collapse. he just grew out of it without any input from us.
Do you have an object that your dog is afraid of which you can leave on the table on a permanent basis? (i.e. a hairdrier, a radio turned on, a hand held fan or a picture of some sort?)
maybe if you tell her very strnly 'No' as soon as you notice that she's about to jump on. if she does mange to get on tell her to get off and mean it, also newspaper is a useful detterent and gentle for puppies (a rolled up newspaper to shoo her off if that makes much sense)

I will try the tin cans and I have a desk fan I could put on

I must admit she does look cute sitting up there but The thought of her jumping from table to work surface like the cats is worrying me a bit!

I keep having thoughts of her jumping one level to another till she is somewhere like the top of the fridge freezer or somewhere else as bizarre Must take a photo if she does

I'd bet she has learned it from the cats! Don't worry until she starts to "mieow" .
We had two lambs which used to "oink" like our pet pig .

Just wait till she starts jumping onto the kitchen worktops and over any safety gates etc. my dog is a complete pain in the ar@e. I have to wipe every surface in the kitchen whenever I've been out of the house. She's 9 now and still doing it. It does stop being funny. If I knew what to do I'd be doing it magnolia- she really is a pain

I trained my cat to stop jumping on worktops by getting him with a water pistol everytime he tried it. I should think that would work with a dog too.

Water pistol would work, but you have to be there to squirt it.

Well now when I go out I put the chairs on top of the table, That worked

BUT can't keep them there all the time so thinking of oiling the table
