Are there any other fish in the tank ?

We had a series of mysterious fishy deaths. Did the whole water testing thing - all well. Turned out to be a sucking loach damaging the other fish.

Or it could be shock. Is the water the right temp?

NoblesseOblige · 10/10/2008 14:26

yes. is better than no more fish. maybe say if they die AGAIN then no more fish, but 3rd time lucky...

nailpolish · 10/10/2008 14:27

yes all the fish in tank are dyng at the same time

the water looks a bit cloudy actually but i have a pump and filter

SparklyGothKat · 10/10/2008 14:28

did ou cycle the tank for a week?

nailpolish · 10/10/2008 14:28

what is a loach?

yesterday one of the fish seemed to be gasping but i didnt know waht to do - i phoned the shop and tey said "well wetested your water and it was fine and you have a pump etc"

OP posts:
nailpolish · 10/10/2008 14:28

yes i bopught tank etc a week before i got fish and had it all set up etc

OrmIrian · 10/10/2008 14:29

It's a fish with a big sucky mouth that some people put in their tanks to clean things. Not beautiful. But deadly it seems!

If this is causing the problem it can damage the fishes gills and cause the gasping thing.

lulumama · 10/10/2008 14:30

we go to pets at home to play 'spot the dead fish', the DCs love it.. DS puts on his best sad face to tell the assistant.

nailpolish · 10/10/2008 14:30

but i dont have any other fish in the tank

Never, ever buy fish from PAH.

We have in the past and they have lasted a week tops.

OrmIrian · 10/10/2008 14:31

Ah. WOn't be that then.

HowlingattheFullMOONMother · 10/10/2008 14:32

I'd buy her some fish from somewhere else, maybe it's a bad batch

pucca · 10/10/2008 14:33

Pets at home are known for selling ill fish, seriously... do not buy fish from there.

I had a huge tank of coldwater fish, took me ages to get the tank right and build up the stock, i bought 2 fish from PAH and they killed my whole tank off, slow painful deaths, it was awful and extremely upsetting.

I complained and got a cheque for £120 (how much the fish were worth) and £50 in vouchers without any hestation from them i didn't want their money i loved my fish and was totally gutted, i would never buy fish from there again, and when i call in for guinea pig stuff they always have dead in fish in various tanks.

I have read somewhere that this company was known by another name but got shut down for animal cruely, came up with another name and of course are now trading again.

It prob isn't you.

nailpolish · 10/10/2008 14:35

oh lulumama you are funny

OP posts:
NoblesseOblige · 10/10/2008 14:35

ick. in that case try elsewhere. we have a PAH but i've never gone there - go to very small old local pet shop or garden centre.

nailpolish · 10/10/2008 14:36

welli have just phoned the shop
they said when they got that batch in about 50% died
they said it could be shock
they said leave it a few days with the filter on and then introduce new fish in a few days

but i think you are right i am going to go to another shop

OP posts:
lulumama · 10/10/2008 14:43

50 % died of shock! yeah, of being put into a tank with countless goldfish corpses..they are probably committing hari kiri!

nailpolish · 10/10/2008 14:44

lulumaman stop it! this is serious! LOL

OP posts:
NoblesseOblige · 10/10/2008 14:44

maybe what is needed is a zombie goldfish plan...

Nbg · 10/10/2008 14:45

Lol LM

Try your local pet shop.

scorpio1 · 10/10/2008 14:46
