How to treat? Gerbil has cut ear and nose

DD has just noticed out gerbil has a raw cut behind one ear and also under his nose.

They don't look like they are bleeding, but are red. No sign of anything nasty llooking. Do look sore though.

Nothing unusual in his cage, so looks like he may have scratched himself.

Obviously bugging him as he keeps rubbing the with his paws, which probably makes it worse. Have seen him eating.

Will it heal on its own, or do we need a vet in the morning?

DD is all upset with herself over it.

Oh dear - perhaps some sort of skin thing? Can gerbils get mange?

I think a trip to the vet is in order....did you go?

hope dd not too upset.

No, not been to vets yet. Just waiting and keeping an eye on it. Doesn;t look as bad today, but still there. It doesn;t appear to be bothering him. He is still eating and drinking, and running abut his ccage as normal.

DD is ok now thanks. Think she was convinced it was going to die. We lost this gerbil's cage-mate earlier in the year, when we came down and found him dead inside a cardboard tube. So think she though this one was going too. ut se is fine, now he is.

Will keep watchign him though.

Has he long nails,we have an albino girb and are quite likley to scratch themselves as they like chewing and digging so have long claws. Have you one or two in a enviroment?
