Anyone else's dog act as Dishwasher Pre-Wash!!

I know it's disgusting, but our GSD camps next to the dishwasher as it's being loaded, licking anything in reach. My MIL goes spare! He does it at my Mum's too but she encourages him! I know it's all going in for a hot wash straight after and the kids think its hilarious.
Is he the only dishwasher pooch?

Not at all. My parent's dog was exactly the same (now sadly deceased - nothing to do with dishwasher ).
In fact my Dad used to go spare and ban the dog from the kitchen at all meal clearing up times - some dogs are just dustbins.

My parent's dog too, and yeah, my Mum encourages her. Believe me, she eats worse...

BethAndHerBrood · 10/02/2005 20:46

Oooohhh!!!! Can't bear the thought of the dog licking the plates we eat off!!! Have you seen what a dog can do with their tongue??!!

milliways · 10/02/2005 20:46

Yes - mine nearly impaled his tongue on the carving tray today, trying to get the tiny bits of roast chicken that were left. Would have served him right

Dogs tongue - Dogs arse - my dinner plate.

NO THANKYOU

misdee · 10/02/2005 20:52

mine tries. even the rancid milk drops from the kids cups. yuk!!!

WideWebWitch · 10/02/2005 20:53

Gross!

milliways · 10/02/2005 20:54

Am now very . Will have to shut dog out more. He gets away with it more when kids load the dishwasher & I don't want to discourage them from chores!

LOL! We don't have a dishwasher, but our lab is a true dustbin and would definitely do this if we had one. He often gets our used plates or even saucepans anyway one way or another. Doesn't bother us at all. They get a good clean afterwards

sweetkitty · 11/02/2005 16:38

I grew up with our dogs always polishing off our dinner straight from the plate and drinking out of tea cups although I think my mum decants the scraps into their bowls now. Also used to allow them to give us kisses (not with open mouths though)!!

Newbarnsleygirl · 11/02/2005 16:41

My MIL's dog does this. However he is a 13 stone Rottweiler so once he's in front of the dishwasher you can't move him.

He also licks the door!

doggiewalker · 11/02/2005 16:41

He tries, but doesn't get to the plates, no way.

But the stuff that lands on the door of the dishwasher as it's open, yes he gets to that sometimes, ie a mixture of tea/coffee/gravy/oj/whatever, it doesn't seem to matter, he's a dustbin.

Kelly1978 · 11/02/2005 16:46

That is soo gross and unhygienic!

Maybe I'm extreme, but in our house, animals have seperate bowls, utensils, and washing up cloths and towels. I hate seeing animals all over peoples stuff, cats on kitchen worktops is gross too!

piffle · 11/02/2005 16:47

gross!
Our pup launched at a steak and kidney pie coming out of the oven and bit the oven try burning hot, that pretty much taught her not to go near any equipment
our dog also eats the cat poo, her own poo licks her bum and worse...
She doesn't get to lick anything!!!

Newbarnsleygirl · 11/02/2005 16:51

We're the same kelly1978, Everything for the dog is seperate. I once caught dh washing the dog bowl with dd's bottles!

I went BARMY!!!!!

Cha · 11/02/2005 16:54

Ours is the pre-washer and the high chair cleaner. I remember once vaguely contemplating buying a splash mat for under the high chair only to dismiss the idea once I remembered the dog's role. He goes round and round ds's high chair at dinner time like some sort of circling shark. Not the merest morsel is wasted.
Gypsies apparently throw their crockery away if a dog licks it. Something my mother told me. Don't know if it's true. We would have nothing to eat off it we were gypsies .

Chandra · 11/02/2005 17:30

No, they are told off if they dare to get near to it. However, "vacuuming" the dining room and kitchen after dinner is highly encouraged. It's like having Nonoo from the Teletubies. Life is simpler when having a dog (or two) but going near to the plates? NO THANK YOU, they are licking themselves all the time! yuk!

Chandra · 11/02/2005 17:31

I'm not a gipsy but I do the same!

SPARKLER1 · 11/02/2005 17:46

I have seperate stuff for the cat too. She has her own bowls, fork and I wash everything with a seperate cloth. I will admit to washing the stuff in the same washing up bowl as ours (at the end of a pile of washing up) but the bowl always gets cleaned out afterwards.

Kelly1978 · 14/02/2005 08:51

We used to have the dog on starting blocks waiting until dd had finished eating before he was allowed to dive forward and hoover like a whirlwind under the high chair - was so funny to watch and def one of the things I miss about not having a dog!!
