Visions of my cat

I feel like I'm a bit unhinged at the moment.

I had to have my cat put down 5 days ago so obviously, I'm grieving.

But in the 12-24 hours before I had to rush to the vets where he was an inpatient to be with him while he was to PTS, I kept seeing him around the house. When I saw him, I was still hoping he could survive, so it wasn't that I was predicting his death at all.

I don't believe in ghosts. I'm not a spiritual person. And he was still alive at that point, but just not at home. Yet I saw him several times. In the living room, in the hall, in a bedroom.

I've heard him since he died, but not had the visions again. I'm so used to dismissing the sounds of him around the house, that it doesn't occur to me until later that he's not here anymore.

Has anyone else experienced any of this? I just don't know what to think really. I'd love to think he's here with me. But it goes against my general belief system.

When my old greyhound died I often heard him plodding up the stairs. Thought it was wishful thinking until my dh mentioned it

I used to hear my dog breathing. I don't believe it was anything but the trauma of losing her. But can't say for sure of course.
It's the toughest of times, take care of yourself.

I also had this after my dog was pts. I'd feel him jump on my bed, hear his feet tapping about. One night I dreamt he'd come to say goodbye (I know, I know!) and never heard or saw him again.

Yes, I had similar when one of my cats died - kept seeing him around the house.

I haven't dreamt about him yet. I would like a goodbye that isn't in the vets with him being very absent due to the illness. He was such a good boy. Sweet and affectionate.

my pets came back to see me again too. i could hear their various noises in various rooms including bounding down the stairs. i talked to them just in case their spirits were indeed present. one cat was still somwtimes mewing hello to me from upstairs when i got home from work - six months after she passed. i thought i was hearing things at first but i’m not!

Really sorry for your loss. When my boy was pts I heard the cat flap (from kitchen into garage) go. There was nobody around and no wind or anything. He used to run through it all the time when he was here. It was a huge comfort.
