I've not been on holiday for years because of my cats

It probably sounds ridiculous but I've not been away for years because I'm worried about leaving my two cats, but I now have two human babies and want to go away next summer. I've heard horror stories about catteries so would rather have a cat sitter but I'm worried they will fight when no one is with them for long periods as they do scrap sometimes. How can I make sure they are as comfortable as possible whilst we are gone? Maybe I'm overthinking.

You're overthinking. Have a look at trusted house sitters.

Honestly find a decent cattery now and go visit it, then book them in for next year. Mine have been going into a good cattery since I got them. I would rather know exactly where the cats are, that they are safe and well fed and not coming home during the day and wondering where we are.

They are used to it now, they bed down at the cattery in their heated bed, and sit outside in the run when the weather is good. The cattery will send me a text and a picture if I ask. It's on a farm and they can watch the horses and the cattle in the fields.

If they are indoor cats, then just leave all the internal doors to the whole house open so they can avoid each other if they want.

I love my cats, but no way would I be missing out on holidays because of them. We don’t use a pet sitter as we prefer a cattery. Ask around for recommendations, or maybe check out Facebook local pages. They’re cats, they’ll be absolutely fine without you for a week or two!

You are massively overthinking,

if you don’t want a cattery get a cat sitter.

We have a neighbour come in twice a day to feed ours. We have used professional cat sitters before, they were great, sent us pictures of the cats! I love the cats but don’t give leaving them much thought really, they get a bit grumpy, we have 24 hours of them being a bit aloof with us when we get back, but they’re absolutely fine.
