We have 5 cats - one of which can be a bit territorial / anxious - do you think it will be ok to not have anyone to stay when we go away but just have someone to pop in once a day to feed / clear the litter trays?

How long for? Do they go outside?

CinnamonTart · 13/03/2025 15:58

They do go outside. 7-10 days.

I have three cats,
when we go away my parents visit every other day to manage the litter trays and check food and water. They have gravity feeders that don’t need daily topping up. They also stay all afternoon so the cats can have a cuddle. I have a cat flap so they can go in and out as they wish.
my cats absolutely hate leaving home and cry incessantly in the vets. They are far happier with visits at home with people they know.

I have 2 cats and have a cat sitter in twice a day to feed them and top up their water when we go on holiday. She keeps a wee spreadsheet of which cats were there at her visit. We also have a wee camera aimed at the cat flap and at the food bowls so we can see them come in and out. This helps if the cat sitter hasn't seen one of them as we can check they are still about.

I have 5 cats and my husband has a pet sitting company.
I would recommend two visits a day for up to 10 days which is what we do with our pet sitter when we are away.

If your cats can roam outside freely then I think a once a day visit as you describe is totally fine. We’ve got multiple cats in only 2 colour schemes so our sitter cannot give us realistic updates as only I can get our identical cats apart. We’ve prop all internal doors open so cats can’t get stuck in a room or cupboard and our sitter goes round the house checking all is ok (we once had an injured cat make it home and hid out in spare room till we found her so I do like everywhere to be checked).

Thank you so much all. @coolkatt - can I ask why you do twice a day rather than once?
