Just brought my dog to the emergency vet

I came back from our walk and 1h later, my dog started shaking, eyes, head and ears twitching, unsteady on his paws, unable to stand or walk for long. I drive him to the vet immediately (it's only a 15min drive away) and he threw up in the car (it stank of rotten things but I couldn't see anything i particular in it).

Vet said he must have eaten something toxic on the walk without me noticing giving him seizures. Took him in to sedate him and do blood tests, and told me he'll probably need to be kept in the overnight vet. We need to go and pick him up at 6pm from the vet to potentially drive him to overnight vet, depending on blood test results.

Anyone ever had this happen to their pet? What happens next? Was your pet OK?

I'm so scared for him. He's only 6! My mum lost her dog recently and his symptoms started the same way 😭

Something similar happened to my dog, turned out he had had manages to pick up a lunch of hash and ate it . He did recover after they gave him diazepam to bring him down. He's
Not here anymore but I muzzled him after that. He would have eaten anything.

Yes. Sounds very similar, we were out on a walk and he started having a seizure out of nowhere. Like @boulevardofbrokendreamss the vet questioned whether he'd got hold of some cannabis and he was hospitalised and put on a drip overnight. We never did find out what caused it, he was absolutely fine the next day when I collected him and nothing like that ever happened again.

This is super reassuring, thank you both! I haven't stopped crying for my boy, but I'm gonna try and get some sleep and hopefully in the morning he'll be all better

Happened to our dog after walk in the woods. Vet said she could have been bitten by ? possibly an adder. She had vomiting, diarrhoea, trembling, couldn’t stand up. She stayed overnight at the vets for observation and was fine the next day.
Hope all is well with your dog

Thank you, this is so reassuring to read! After thinking I'd have no traffic on the topic Pets, I created this thread which I will update when I have more news from the vets 🙏
