Just wandering really, after having my puppy for 5 months and having the same conversation with people about what breed he is bardy blardy blah....................

He is not that unusually but is on ther native breeds endangered list and he is definately NOT a "designer dog".

I need people to talk to that understand the reason why i am considering getting a t-shirt printed up with the required info!!!!

(can you tell i am a little bored today!)

We have a sheltie called Smartie. She's ten months now, totally potty and very intelligent.

bethoo · 22/04/2008 23:13

Beellie your dogs are gorgwous, check out my profile with my boys! what are dobies like as pets? are they good wiht other dogs?

justwaterformethanks · 23/04/2008 09:08

I have a rescued german shorthair pointer who is 5 this year ,weve had him 3 and a half years now and i wouldnt be without the great brown lump. Would love another smaller dog but not sure what , would probably go with another rescue though

Tickle · 23/04/2008 10:19

There's now a pic of Lettuce on my profile - had to find one where she looks slim Working on that now!

Some lovely boxer pics on this thread My father has a gorgeous boxer called Rosie - unfortunately just starting to have some heart problems quite common in boxers apparently.

Oh, and Flier - my dsis's vizsla seems to react badly to stress of any kind - the vet thinks this was behind his skin problem. He's much better now, but he had lots of treatment. He also went totally grey round his muzzle almost overnight when dsis and her first husband parted ways

Beelliesebub · 23/04/2008 10:19

bethoo your boys are soooo handsome....
I love Boxer's but I don't think I'll ever have another and I fear my Molster's on her last legs, she keeps passing out and the vet reckons it'll jus keep happening until one day she won't get up again... It's something to do with the blood getting to her brain cos her face is boxerish
Dobie's are excellent pets, she truly is a big baby and she's brilliant with Molster too! The trouble is all the films and programmes use a dobe when they want to portray a vicious dog and in reality it's really not true... (but don't tell any burgler's)

Tickle · 23/04/2008 10:28

beellsiebub - how heartbreaking. It sounds like what my dad's boxer has started experiencing - it is common for boxers to have a problem with the aorta being too narrow, so the heart has to work extra hard for their whole lives, so becomes knackered early. has the vet checked her heart? how old is she?

Beelliesebub · 23/04/2008 11:03

She's 8, so not a bad age for a boxer and we always new she had a slight heart murmur from when she was a pup...
All we can do really is give her the best life we can.... Mind you, it's difficult when you're trying to watch a film and she won't stop bloody snoring....

LittleB · 23/04/2008 12:15

Curlies are lovely, shame you don't see many of them about. I know what you mean about getting a t-shirt printed, I've got a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling retriever, when he was a pup loads of people asked what he was and most haven't heard of the breed, he's 13mths now so its not so bad, they just think he's a crossbreed! I have also been accused of having a 'Designer Dog', just because I chose the breed most suitable for our circumstances (and gorgeous too) and he's a little unusual, like yours thay are proper working breeds (sorry don't want to offend anyone with designer breeds - they're lovely too - but not what mine is). Hope your dog recovers from his op soon.

alfielooloo · 23/04/2008 14:00

We have a Petite Bassett Griffon Veneen, he has had his shampoo & set this morning and is now looking very handsome, no walks by the river for a few days

bluenosesaint · 23/04/2008 14:08

I have a Golden Retriever - and a beautiful girl she is too

Iklboo · 23/04/2008 14:09

Whippet/greyhound cross and she's gorgeous! And very, very affectionate & cuddlesome

sophiewd · 23/04/2008 14:11

german/english pointer with some foxhound thrown in there for good measure.

Tickle · 23/04/2008 15:50

alfielooloo and littleB - just googled your breeds! alfie I had heard of yours but couldn't remember what they look like - gorgeous, of course

And littleB, I'd never heard of yours, yet recognised the pics when I saw them

Ended up at the Basset Fauve de Bretagne here - swoon!

gerbrajess · 23/04/2008 16:01

we have red staffie called fred (little red maaaaaaan). He's a rescue dog, completely OTT, costs a fortune to feed (allergic to everything) but we LOVE him!!!

rislip · 23/04/2008 16:01

Ohh I have a lovely large German shepherd called Dave. I get so many mean looks from people when we're out walking. And yes he's always on lead and (mostly!) behaved.

jo25 · 23/04/2008 16:43

littleB i also get accussed of having a designer dog, but the fact is i have waited 17 years to have him as our circumstances were never right, we have just finished building our house and we did some of the designing with dog in mind. It is well worth the wait

the funny this that i find is when other labradoodle owners make a huge fuss of my dog and get down on thier knees to play with him and tell me how to look after him etc and it ususally very long winded, they are special, don't you know!! lol. i usually let them finish then tell them he is a curly, at which point thier faces change and they dust of thier knees and leave very very quickly without looking back!

Alfie, i love PBGV and in fact i used to work in a show kennels that had lots of them and they all had thier own personaltites, just like humans with fur and 4 legs!

No breeds are the best breeds - long live mongrels especially from rescue homes.

I've got lab/collie X and

staffie x god knows what.

Staffies are great dogs, no aggression if they are treated properly.

All bow down to Caesar Milan the Dog Whisperer.

saythatagain · 23/04/2008 16:55

We don't have a dog , I would love one but we both work full time blah, blah, blah (says dh). My db has two irish setters (red & white) - beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
Iklboo - I would dearly love a greyhound/whippet cross as I've heard they're very cuddly. Can you post up some more pic's please?

jo25 · 23/04/2008 16:59

When people refer to designer dogs they are talking about breeds that are bred for specific reasons, ie the labradoodle because by croos labs and poodles, you get a dog that is loyal etc but doesn't moult. Others include, Cockapoo, pompoochi, puggle, schnoodle and Yorkie-poo.

lazymumofteenagesons · 23/04/2008 17:02

Then theres a shitpoo! Just made that one up

jo25 · 23/04/2008 17:04

Arh but it wouldn't surprise me! it could be a cross between shiatzu (sp?) an da poodle!

Watch this space................

alfielooloo · 23/04/2008 19:13

lol at shitpoo! Am a bit giggly as have just been listening to the rude paypal man sorry
jo25, my PBGV is lovely & you'r right, he is like a little human. When the DC have friends round to play, he has to drag his bed to where they are playing as if to say 'can I join in please'

LooptheLoop · 23/04/2008 19:28

Another Rhodesian Ridgebabck here - nice to hear of fellow owners.

Used to have a GBGV - adorable but the craziest dog I have ever owned!

alfielooloo · 23/04/2008 20:01

He is crazy, adorable but very vocal & a bit like a hyperactive child when people come round. He is fine after 5 minutes but does like to give people a good welcome
