Just wandering really, after having my puppy for 5 months and having the same conversation with people about what breed he is bardy blardy blah....................

He is not that unusually but is on ther native breeds endangered list and he is definately NOT a "designer dog".

I need people to talk to that understand the reason why i am considering getting a t-shirt printed up with the required info!!!!

(can you tell i am a little bored today!)

Wow! What an amazing looking dog jo25, I don't think I've come across them before.

jo25 · 22/04/2008 18:31

Alot of people haven't hense the repetative conversation i have with people, usually the ones who think they know everything about every single dog! i usually hear them muttering behind thier hands about what a gorgeous poodle he is! then they ask and i tell them and you can just feel thier embrassement as they try to back track what they have just said!

anyone have a hungarian vizsla?

BitLessTiredNow · 22/04/2008 18:35

we had a gorgeous Weimaraner, for 6 years before children but sadly he turned on our ds1 so had to be rehomed. Have never been so heartbroken for my dh, who cried for days (I was v sad too, but so upset about the baby I was much more clear cut about it). Now so missing a dog - would love a gsp, but am a bit scared it might happen again.

MargaretMountford the fab thing about greyhounds/lurchers and whippets is that you hardly notice they are in the house - they are so quiet - very catlike - they just curl up in the warmest spot

But you take them on a walk, and kerpowww - you have a different dog! IMHO a great type of dog to have with young children, as our 4 kids make enough noise and mess in the house as it is

Flier my dsis in Australia has a vizsla - he's lovely but has had lots of problems with his skin

Bitlesstirednow - v sad re your dog - RIP our lurcher Tilly who died 18mths ago. She was DH's alpha bitch before he met me

redwino · 22/04/2008 19:10

English Springer Spaniel (best dog in the world)

Flier · 22/04/2008 19:17

bitlesstirednow vizsla's are lovely with children, thats part of the reason why we chose one.

tickle thats interesting you should say that about your dsis' vizsla - ours is beginning to have problems with his skin, and he'd just coming up for 6.

hippipotami · 22/04/2008 19:17

Curlycoated retrievers are fab, I come across one called Oscar on my dog walks frequently.

Another breed I like is Otterhounds - huge great smelly beasts (well the ones I meet are) but oh so lovely

I would love a rescue greyhound. There is something about the look in their eyes that has really got to me.
And after a hyper, bouncy, mad as a box of frogs Cocker Spaniel, it will be lovely to have something quiet in the house

flowerybeanbag · 22/04/2008 19:17

I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, he is so beautiful - (see profile), and so lovely with DS.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 22/04/2008 19:21

West Highland White Terrier.

Was there really a thread about all dogs being banned? How daft.

jo25 · 22/04/2008 19:27

Curlies are about just dotted here and there! glad you have met one Hipp they are just big curly babies really, is the on you see adult or young dog?

OP posts:
hippipotami · 22/04/2008 19:38

The one I see is an adult, never asked how old he is, but definately fully grown and not puppy like in behaviour. He is very very lovely, will always hae a run around with my mad cocker, and will always come up to me to say hello.
Truly a lovely dog
I may try and smuggle him home with me one day.

By the way, I would not confuse him for a standard poodle as he (Oscar) is much broader in build, whereas standard poodles are quite slender arent' they?

pagwatch · 22/04/2008 19:39

ggirl

ohh she is beautiful

BitLessTiredNow · 22/04/2008 19:55

thanks for the nice posts, guys. I do like Vizlas too - I like all HPR breeds, but really need to look before we leap this time. Still miss our Harry boy.

yummybunnymummy · 22/04/2008 20:32

jelly, we have a lovely westie, edison, have managed to load a piccie on my profile page..i think..he turns one next week and is due for his first hair cut as he is very fluffy at the moment..

yummybunnymummy · 22/04/2008 20:35

maybe visible now????

moosemama · 22/04/2008 20:36

We have a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, a Belgian Shepherd x Border Collie and a great gallumphing Lurcher (saluki x greyhound/border collie.

Curly Coated Retrievers are lovely, all the ones I've met have had really sweet natures, its a shame we don't see more of them about.

moosemama · 22/04/2008 20:42

Always wanted an Irish Water Spaniel as my grandparents had one when I was little and I spent every summer holiday looking after him.

They are another one on the endangered list but unfortunately my house is already overflowing with dogs and kids. lol

DH says if any more dogs move in, he's moving out! I did have to think about it for a minute when I was offered a Gordon Setter puppy the other day - but in the end I decided I'd better keep DH - he does pay the bills after all!
