What are good flea and worm treatments for cats?

I've been using Advocate and Profender on an annual subscription from our vets.

The vet now only seems to do a much more expensive full care plan that includes the flea and worm treatment as well as lots of other things that I don't really want.

I need an alternative. Where does everyone get their parasite treatments from and which ones are good? I've heard scary things about some brands where pets react badly. Also, I know that some brands don't work very well and I want something that does the job properly.

Thanks!

I use this for flea and ticks: www.petdrugsonline.co.uk/seresto-cat-flea-collar-with-tick-control?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwm_SzBhAsEiwAXE2Cv9xdn4OGy7L6AiC164bnpGvwXvm_AA-izN26IonEIDP3_KR-si_3FBoCe1MQAvD_BwE#646=38471

Put the collar on, lasts for 8 months. Haven't had a flea infestation since and been using it for a few years now.

You could ask the vet for a prescription for the ones you use and buy online. They will charge for the prescription.

I have the monthly plan too and it covers annual boosters as well as flea/wormer

My cat & dog are on bravecto & milpro which we get from the vet every 3 months.
It's a little more expensive than other products but so effective it's worth it. We've had a couple of flea outbreaks in the past when on cheaper flea treatments (frontline/itch) and they're a nightmare to get rid of once they're in the house. Also advantage gave one of our cats a really bad reaction.
The vet stuff is brilliant

I get the printed prescription (about £12) and order from animed direct, 6 months of Advocate is £21.75, which is still significantly cheaper than buying from the vet.

I have recently bought stronghold after advantage stopped working.

I bought from Atlantic pet products without a prescription.

Fudgetheparrot · 27/06/2024 17:31

I get Advantage from petdrugsonline

Fontainebleau007 · 27/06/2024 17:34

Another one for getting prescription from vets and buying online.

SatinHeart · 27/06/2024 17:46

We use Bravecto and Profender, both on prescription.

Previously I bought Advantage online, but it didn't work and we ended up with fleas in the house so I'd avoid that

Petdrugsonline for advantage, can't believe I used to pay £60 to buy from the vets! same brand.

Stronghold plus (better than Stronghold) is the main product for cats sold at the practice i work at , i really trust it , credelio is another good one ,
Unless you are on a monthly plan at your vets get a written prescription from them and buy online , much cheaper for you , vets have to buy from a vets wholesaler hence more costly.
New rules from royal college are saying that unless vet has put written permission to dispense flea and worm meds for a 12mth period in pets notes then an examination has to take place-this is not the practices rule they have no choice.
Avoid products that you can buy off the shelf or without prescription, they are a waste of time.
