Which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, just be aware of the gap between policies. My friend started a new policy at the beginning of January but you can't claim for 2 weeks. Needless to say said pet became ill suddenly and the bill is huge and mounting. Read the small print.

I have had a quote from my vets to have some teeth removed . I have spoke to my sister who has the same type of dog and she recently had teeth removed ,which is half the cost of what Ihave been quoted.!
My question is , has anyone shopped around and changed vets in similar circumstances, and are your current vets obliged to past on your dog details/medical records to your new chosen vets?
Or can you stay with your current vets and just have the teeth removal done at another vets ?
Would my current vets accept this and work with them.
Thanks

I have had pet insurance with various companies for 15 years but in the autumn my dog became ill with seizures and turns out that the fees for the specialist vet - not the highest of specialist fees - were not fully covered by my policy eg policy caps at £200 specialist consultation fee and the specialist I used cost more so some was not recoverable and this was the case with every item claimed by me for the specialists treatment - scan, spinal tap, drugs, blood tests - everything had a lower cap on my policy that vet charged - turns out my policy will not pay any specialist treatment at the amount it actually costs me to have done - I had a choice of specialists and the one I chose was not the dearest - left me 1000s of pounds out of pocket - who would know what cap was reasonable or read the amounts - you'd never know unless you had to make a claim. The whole process was unbelievable.
