My cat got stuck up a really tall tree and had to be rescued by the fire service Grin

Coffeeandbourbons · 24/04/2023 23:00

My dog choked on a piece of bamboo, almost to death - it was absolutely horrific. This was when we were teens. My mum managed to dislodge it somehow by throwing a bucket of water into his mouth at the 11th hour but it took me days to calm down after.

Coffeeandbourbons · 24/04/2023 23:01

Oh and he savaged a delivery man. The stupid man just let himself in the back door one day so my mum turned to see a strange man in the room and screamed. Dog attacked him and had him on the floor, the only time he was aggressive to anyone

When we were kids my brothers dog swallowed a whole tennis ball and became gradually more unwell and then my Mum took him to the vet for an xray which identified the offending object and he had to have surgery to remove it 👍

Velvetbee · 24/04/2023 23:02

Youngest child shut the back door on our dog’s tail partially severing it. Darling dog couldn’t stop wagging and sprayed blood all over the living room.

Feochadan · 24/04/2023 23:03

Our nutter of a lab spotted a buoy in a lake and swam out trying to get it. DH had to swim in to get him out after he’d been in there nearly an hour swimming in circles round it.

Snoopystick · 24/04/2023 23:03

Dog went in local fast flowing river, think chasing a rat and I had to call the fire brigade too 🥴 they got her out really easily but I couldn’t do it by myself. luckily she had managed to get on a safe bit of a sand bank under the water.

Our cocker spaniel swallowed one of my Mums antipsychotic pills when I was about 8. I remember my Mum really panicking on the phone to the vet and at the same time trying to get the dog to be sick and trying to get it to drink salted water (that’s what the vet told us to do) to encourage it to sick it back up. Was absolutely awful and eventually the whole tablet (which was blue so that helped!) came flying out. 😳 My Mum was upset for days and we got a locked medical cabinet after that - even though I think it was obviously just an accident and she must have dropped it somehow (she had schizophrenia).

I had a feral cat who was absolutely fine as long as you didn't touch her, friendly,, but definitely leave her alone type of girl.
My neighbour was determined to win her over and was always trying to pet her or pick her up. I managed to foil all these attempts mostly by shrieking don't touch the cat out of the front door.
I told her about 10,000 times that if she attempted to stroke the cat she would be bitten but she ignored me.
One day she came round to complain that my cat had bitten her and showed me her grossly swollen septic arm - she had picked the cat up despite her growling and hissing.
I rushed her into hospital where she stayed on IV antibiotics for three days.
She had the nerve to be upset about it afterwards. She said, I don't think your cat likes me.
Nope, she doesn't.

My cat have terminal cancer :(

Floralnomad · 26/04/2023 16:27

We had a horse with arthritis that rolled in the field one day and we ended up with 2 fire engines , the neighbouring farmer and the vet to get him up .

Our very nervous rescue got spooked on Hampstead Heath and we camped out overnight for 3 nights looking for her. Put posters everywhere, local police helped with sightings, people called with sightings.

We put out stinky meat casserole that the foxes came and ate, we caught her and she came in the house and jumped up on the nearest bed not a care in the world.

A few months later a local resident in one of the big houses near one of the swimming ponds heard me call her name and said he was glad she was found and had been listening to us yelling her name at 3am.

Hampstead Heath certainly comes into its own late at night!

My Jack Russell went down a fox hole and got stuck. He had to be dug out ! Also went down a badger set and got into a fight with the badger. He was down there ages and we could hear it all. It was terrifying and he very nearly lost an eye. We loved that dog but he was an absolute bugger.

mrsfennel · 26/04/2023 16:32

@TheDogsMother oh god that sounds terrifying. How did you get him out when he was fighting the badger?

ShakeYourFeathers · 26/04/2023 16:33

Dog 1 ate a chocolate cake the night before a big birthday.

Dog2 hate rat poison, didn't realise it was reachable for him

Dog 3The gate was open, dog decided to wonder up the road to see if her favourite neighbour was home and see if any treats were available. Didn't realise until said "missing anyone? "Whilst lifting her over the fence

Kitsmummy · 26/04/2023 16:36

Dog snaffled an "edible", eg cannabis choc from son's friend's bag. Was totally stoned, couldn't stand up, on a drip at vets for 24 hours

What is the biggest drama you have had with one of your pets?
TokyoSushi · 26/04/2023 16:36

Our dog inadvertently jumped on our cat, who was lying on the sofa. The cat responded by swiping at the dog and splitting his eyeball open. That was horrific!

TheDogsMother · 26/04/2023 16:36

@mrsfennel He was totally in the zone and nothing we did would get him out. He backed out momentarily and we grabbed him. He was in an absolute state of shock and his face was a mess. He survived it though. JRs are very sturdy little dogs.

Awww, poor dog. I can imagine the confused wag.

mrsfennel · 26/04/2023 16:39

@TheDogsMother poor thing. So lucky you grabbed him.

The Gas Board were replacing and fitting radiators in our 30’s house, taking up the floor boards to put in new piping.

Some hours after they had gone for the night, DH said ‘ where is Dcat senior? She’s normally in by now. . Went outside, called, rattled Brekkies box , asked junior cat….nothing.

two anxious hours later, snoring from corner of sitting room from invisible source. Dcat under floorboards, presumably fancied hot pipe under radiators, crept in, fell asleep. We had to take two floor boards up to extract her with the help of the Brekkies box. She was fine, if a bit dusty.

Next day, both cats were shut in the bedroom until all the floor boards were down….

waterlego · 26/04/2023 16:48

When our cat was still quite young, he had to have his penis amputated due to a medical problem. The whole drama cost £6k (several emergency admissions, some overnight stays, multiple catheterisations, surgery). Our insurance only covered half 😫

BrennieGirl · 26/04/2023 16:51

Nothing as dramatic as the above stories thank goodness but yesterday I called my lurcher Daisy (the cat's name) by accident and now he not talking to me.

NC4Now · 26/04/2023 16:57

My kitten was a head case. He almost burnt the house down by turning in the convection hob with his paws. DS came downstairs when the smoke alarm started screeching and realised a bottle of olive oil I’d left out had melted and was about to catch light.

He disappeared for three days once. When he came home he’d lost his voice.

He was tiny but he could eat three sausages in one sitting.

He regularly broke his curfew until one night, when he was 14 months old, I got a knock on the door and the awful news he’d been locked down. Live fast, die young. I miss the little loony. I can’t bear to part with the lampshade that’s full of his teeth marks, or paint over his paw prints on the white paint under the windowsill 🐾🐾
