Kittens eating anything and everything 🤦‍♀️

I’ve never had or wanted cats, DH loves them so I’ve succumbed and I’m so glad I did, I absolutely love our little kittens, 3 months old. Even though I didn’t know anything about cats, I thought they basically ate kitty/cat food, however not the case with our two!

They will eat absolutely anything, you cannot leave one crumb on the work top, they’re up there, I dropped beetroot the other day on the kitchen floor, they ate it, I walked three steps from a piece of toast to put the butter back in the fridge and they were up there licking my toast, they climbed into their food box, took their dreamies out, ripped open the packets and ate them.

I accidentally left the fridge open the other day one of them jumped in, dragged out a piece of steak wrapped in tinfoil and they ate most of it.

We have to lock everything away … is this normal, please tell me they will grow out of it.

pics attached of what we are dealing with and of the culprits 🤦‍♀️😂

I’ve had cats all my life and not once have their claws been trimmed/ cut, or their ears cleaned! We have cat scratching posts/ boxes around the house and they’ve never clawed furniture. They have been to the vets regularly for health checks/ vaccinations and not once has it been mentioned - I’m pretty sure it’s not a thing (in the UK at least).

Gorgeous kittens by the way.

Because ours cuddle up to us all the time and do the pawing thing they kill is with sharp claws, hence why we trim the sharp bit off, et showed us how to do it and they’re used to it now

I had one that used to steal my vindaloo curry and bright purple black cherry yoghurt. Another that liked scones.

😂😂😂😂 wouldn’t like to be cleaning their trays out after a vindaloo 🤦‍♀️😂

Please don’t use water spray to train them. It’s cruel. Just gently and consistently remove them from the countertops, redirect their attention with a toy. This will help develop their trust in you.

How much food are you giving them?

Mine have all done that too - they only do it for a short time before settling down.

It is normal, but you need to train them so they stop doing it

I get you, we literally put them down every time they get up , doesn’t stop them though 🤷‍♀️😂

Plenty, we’re going off the vet’s recommendation , plus a bit more.

@Queenofheart

You squirt into the air whilst firmly saying no to bad behaviours, you don't squirt at them. It's best used sparingly so choose your absolute nos and use it for that.

I have a dog not a cat and it's highly effective for them. Just noticed on the can it said for cat behaviour training too

My cat, as it was a baby, did the same. They will grow out of it.

Datafan55 · 22/01/2023 20:19

I used to have to get my cat's claws trimmed all the time. She never went far from home, and her outside space was street (ie no trees/climbing - might have helped). Indoors, scratched my divan to pieces, if not any scratching posts. Claws would grow again within few weeks and would be catching in the carpet.

Ears can get a bit mucky and occasionally need a wipe out.

I was too much of a wuss to do anything so it used to cost me a monthly visit from an obliging vet nurse/groomer. Claw trim was always listed on these websites even back then (2008 on ish).

Your kittens are beautiful!

Mine drink milk from my child's glass if he's left any, definitely eat bread/ham/butter/cheese - anything I have left out. I leave the tops clear at night and in the morning I can see paw prints across them from the cats checking! To be fair, one is really greedy but not so much a thief and the other is smaller but a dreadful thief. She licks our plates before they are put in the dishwasher! 😂🙈
