My 2 (black dogs on cream carpet) are and i am knee deep in bloody hair here!
It is sticking out in clumps that look like brown chunks all over the hind quarters and you can literally knock it off them!
ARGH!
I don't remember this last winter? At the start of summer yes, but not now too?

yes, she is (half lab, half border collie)
Everytime I stroke her, great wafts of hair

whats going on?

cali · 22/12/2007 19:51

We've got a black lab and cream carpets too, he's a nightmare at the mo as hair is every where. Don't know if it's because has been so cold here and heating is on all the time but wish I could have him laminated!!

tillykins · 22/12/2007 19:54

our carpets are beige-y oatmeally coloured

But the hall and the dining room laminate (not what you meant, obviously ) and the hair just sits on top of it in lines

AARGH

oh, and we have a black cat too, but he doesn't seem to be shedding

LadyOfTheHollyAndTheIvy · 22/12/2007 20:05

So it's not just mine then.
If I try and brush the silly bithces they run away and they usually like it....

My labs got a single coat and doesnt really shed ! thank god !

PartridgeinaRustyBearTree · 23/12/2007 11:31

We bought our house from someone with a lab & I kept hoovering & hoovering & still getting hair...

GeekBoy · 04/01/2008 15:10

yep, mine moults like crazy.. ...calmed down a LOT when I started giving the bugger cod liver oil on his food (as well as making his coat lovely and shiney).

SaggyOldBagpuss · 04/01/2008 15:15

Yep she is shedding like mad at the mo, the oatmel carpet has some very attractive black patterns on it

Threadworm · 04/01/2008 15:19

Tee hee at laminated lab.

numptysmummy · 04/01/2008 15:20

Mine is awful - guess it's the mild weather. She's in the utility at the mo until she stops. My sprocker is just as bad.

horseshoe · 04/01/2008 23:05

Yep...yellow lab and dark carpets. I brush hime twice a day and still get masses of hair. He's a bit partial to DH's clothes especially wool which ends up covered and I still cant find a good dog hair remover.

NutterlyUts · 04/01/2008 23:07

Zoom Groom for on the dog, best done outside
In side? let me know if you find one!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 04/01/2008 23:11

i called the dog parlour today to try and get themboth in for bath, brush, nails, scent etc but they have no room for about 3 months!
Idiot here decided to try and bath them, singlehandedly.
I got one in the tub (they both hate it) and managed to shampoo the length of her back and that was about it. She was out. Had to wrestle her back and rinse her off.
Could then not get the water to go down the plug hole from all the hair and I had thoroughly slickered her before putting her in.
Was covered in hair from top to toe, as was bathroom and DS1 who was 'helping'.
Am going to call around some other places tomorrow and try and get them both in for a good grooming.

pussycatmomma · 04/01/2008 23:25

thats so freaky - my mum was just on about this today. Her crazy black lab is casting like mad, lots and lots of black hair everywhere and on everything - including visiting daughters eg me. Cant just be the mild weather surely? its been freezing last few days anyway!

shewhoneverdusts · 07/01/2008 18:09

Yep, my black Lab is moulting like crazy now. I ran my hand down her back last night and the floor was suddenly covered. I think it's just that time of year again, mind you I'm so gad I have laminate floor, I can't imagine what it's like with carpet. Any recommendations about what carpets are best with a Lab?

slopeyjoe · 07/01/2008 22:44

my chocolate boy is moulting like crazy too.

i did read somewhere that labs moult twice a year - once for 6 months and then again for 6 months!

slopeyjoe · 07/01/2008 22:48

also, am i the only one who finds dog hairs where they have no earthly business being, like inside dishes in cupboards, upstairs in my chest of drawers (he doesn't go upstairs as we have stairgate..)

i must be a bad housekeeper because when i take a mug down for a cuppa, it will probably have a dog hair in!

(or maybe i am just very slovenly!!)

MummyPenguin · 08/01/2008 15:56

I have a black lab too, she's not moulting too much but does have the brown tufts on her hindquarters. Now my Golden Retriever, he's another matter altogether, and it's all year round with him. We have laminate floors downstairs and there's just bloody great tufts of it all the time. And yes, it gets everywhere.
