Our Guinea Pig died yesterday leaving a very lonely rabbit.

We adopted a Guinea Pig and a Rabbit in January after they were abandoned at a house my mum's partner was working on so we don't know how long they were housed together. They got on really well and were very good companions.

The GP died yesterday and we are wondering if the rabbit is going to be okay on her own or whether we should think of getting her another friend, if so, what? A rabbit or a gp? Would it be better to leave her? We just want to do whatever is the best thing to make her happy. Any advice?

tbh, it isnt recommended that GP are housed together anymore, so you may be better off getting her a male rabbit pal. rabbits are social creatures and thrive in pairs.

I completely agree with Misdee, GP + Bunny rarely works out. GPs are pretty untidy compared to bunnies, they talk a differnt language and have different dietary requirements so it isn't recommended to put the two together.

It is quite possible your bunny will pine for quite some time. Again, I think misdee is totally right in saying find her a male rabbit companion. Two females are not likely to get on unless they have been together from birth. Obviously you'll need to get him snipped to stop him hassling her. Have you considered looking for a rescue rabbit (I'm just thinking if you get a young one you may well end up with the same problem again in the future).

Cool, thanks for your help Misdee and Coby. I did see that rabbits and gp's aren't supposed to be housed together but since that's how they arrived here and had obviously been together for a long time, I didn't have the heart to separate them.

A rescue rabbit is a great idea!

I think you did the right thing keeping them together. Good luck with your 'bunny hunt'
