BEWARE OF THE PLANTS IN YOUR GARDEN>so sad our beautiful puppy died from eating ivy in the garden

we feel so terrible and that we let both our little girl and her best made (inky) down .

The puppy was never out without me close behind. I was so preocupied with ensuring that she did her toileting that I watched her like a hawk.
We have many pots and odds and sods in the garden as well as overgrowing ivy (from next doors barn)
She often would chase and briefly pick up leaves. I quickly got her to sit and drop.
Yesterday she went out. I didn't particularly notice her chewing anything but she spent time sniffing around the pots where many leaves had been blown due to high winds.
She suffered catastophic symptoms late afternoon and had to be put to sleep overnight.

Oh bloody hell, I hope you and your lo are ok, that sounds awful, poor inky, poor you. All my love to you and your lassie, and a big hug to you dd from me.

So sorry to hear that. Never knew ivy was dangerous to dogs.

Oh bless. Thats awful.

Thankyou though for the warning.
We have ivy, a light green one going mad along our wall. We have 2 dogs one a pup too. Its been there for nearly 3yrs so am wondering if its the wrong kind? I mean not poisonous.

How is your dc/dd?

Did it all happen today?

PellMell · 10/11/2007 19:26

It was awful!
She was in full health...extremely lively.
Dd2 was being a pain and we were both really tired.
I made lunch for friends. When they left I put dd into my bed for an afternoon nap.
I took the puppy into the garden.
I went up to dd who wouldnt settle (puppy stayed downstairs)
I layed on the bed with dd2 for an hour while she slept.
When I came down the dog was having a continous seizure, losing stuff from the back end and never recovered.
A neighbour is a vet and he suggested that she appeared to be poisoned. she went to the local vets and because she needed to be kept in overnight (and they did not have facilities) dh had to drive her with a drip in to another vets.
They suggested her chances were 50/50 but dh said if she deteriorated to put her to sleep for humane reasons.
poor puppy.
My dd showed herself to be a kind and wonderfully caring little girl during the short time we had this dog.

Ours is English Ivy
If you google images you will see pictures of it.
It is all over one side of our garden.
DD is very confused and saying she is going to heaven in a hot air balloon to see Inky.
"daddy is going to take me to heaven" made me cry actually.

another reasopn for the warning is that we are now £645 worse off due to the vet bill.
