Royal Python has escaped!

My daughter’s royal python escaped on New Year’s Eve and is still missing. I followed tips online to search room by room and then sealing the door off if she’s not in there but can’t find her anywhere! I’ve literally ransacked the place, every piece of clothing has been removed and checked even the hanging clothes, every drawer has been removed, I even pulled the fridge freezer out and took the plinths off in the kitchen! We’ve left her viv door open with a mouse inside, tried leaving a hot water bottle with hide on the top next to a mouse at night but still no sign. Does anyone have any other tips of what we can do? I have a distraught 8 year old on my hands!

I do wonder about turn the heating off to lure her out ❄️🥶🥶🥶🥶

All the people horrified about having to puncture the cranium of a dead rat and give it a wash and blow dry 😂

Ten years ago or so I used to breed total amongst other reptiles . They really are a gateway pet. Anyway, somebody dumped a very large but sadly burned, 6ft 4kg female royal python and it was breeding/egg laying season. The burn on her neck was easy to treat but she refused every single god source apart from day old chicks. There is not enough calcium in chicks to sustain egg production and plus she would need 10+ chicks every few days. So I had to cut the Chick open from its groin to its chest and basically sew it like a hat onto a medium size rat. She would take 2 a feed and we were increasing her feed to help her heal. Within 3-4 weeks I had her taking a an adult Guinea pig with a chick hat and after egg laying she went straight into the biggest rats. The scar healed beautifully and she laid 10 fertile eggs that showed some calcium deficiency. 9 eggs hatched in as variety of colours / patterns.

Wow that’s some dedication! I don’t think you’re going to live down the fact that you give dead rats blow dry’s though Grin

Rat blow-dries? Chick cut-and-shuts? Envy Snake ownership is not for me.

angelhorror · 04/01/2021 21:19

@LaBellina

I have no advice, other then that if I were your neighbours, I'd very much appreciate a note trough the door to warn me to check my shoes before I put them on....
They would know if it was in their shoes. A note warning to keep cats inside would be useful though!
BlowDryRat · 04/01/2021 21:20

I've NCed specially

BashfulClam · 04/01/2021 21:26

Oh jeez I am petrified of snakes. If I found one in my house I would probably die. People need to be more careful as I see stories of the slithery fuckers escaping quite often.

halfthesun · 04/01/2021 21:26

Enya, our royal escaped a number of times, found her under my sons pillow - she lives under his bed in a viv, also in my sons top drawer beside the bed. We tried the mouse under the radiator too.

Other advice included turning the heating off and getting into bed - python will want to get into bed with you to keep warm, even my snake loving son didn’t want to try this! Best of luck.

I'd be a bit concerned in case the snake decided to snuggle up to me/the kids/the cat though in the middle of the night for some warmth 😱

Lovemusic33 · 04/01/2021 21:46

@RainbowRaine

I like the suggestion of turning off the heating then leave the heatmat out on full heat.
Don’t leave a heat mat on full heat, snakes are stupid and will burn themselves on a mat.
FraggleShingleBellRock · 04/01/2021 21:46

@BlowDryRat I'm honoured ❤️😂

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 04/01/2021 21:48

Is it just me thinking this thread is about the Queen’s snake escaping or something??

Iwantacookie · 04/01/2021 21:50

I can cope with snakes but blow drying rats and doing what sounds like Frankenstein surgery on chics I think I'll stick to looking at them at the zoo.

FlorrieMango · 04/01/2021 21:56

My corn snake once escaped and was found 3 months later in somebodies front garden 2 streets away.

I only found her due to a news article and claimed her back from a Wildlife Centre the man took her too.

Sounds unbelievable but !!! They are resilient.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 04/01/2021 21:57

I don't mind snakes and this thread has made me laugh with the exception of the snake actually being lost. Which is sad. I hope she turns up.

If someone had an escaped pet tarantula I'd be moving house though. Lock down or not.

FraggleShingleBellRock · 04/01/2021 22:00

@Iwantacookie

I was also unfortunate enough to be in charge of a giant tortoises that had a genital prolapse. A tortoises penis is hidden inside its body and when sexually excited it comes out and mooches around and looks like a cross between a zombie elephant trunk and a shitake mushroom. The poor fella has gotten excited and dragged his mucus covered penis all over the hayfloor and outside enclosure. It could go back inside. So we had to hose it down and do clean the crevices etc and then cover it in sugar and cling film. The penis was as long as my arm and kept trying to grab me . That's still not the worst thing I've ever seen though..... a friend was working in a equine place and as they were fitting the sleeve over the horse and his penis he went crazy. Cue my friend calling me from the hospital with stitches, a broken jaw, black eye and covered in horse jizz after she had been hit in the face by Jericho's penis. Most expensive and painful facial ever.

ballsdeep · 04/01/2021 22:03

@Youvegotafriendinme

When ever any of mine have escaped over the years they have nearly always turned up under the bath or in the cupboard with the boiler, wrapped around the pipes. Check warm places and even in pockets of coats etc. Snakes are amazing escape artists and you’d be amazed at some of the places they can hide. When was the last time snake ate?
This makes me.feel so sick and shuddery!
MotheringShites · 04/01/2021 22:03

Oh my God. Just scrolled through the whole thread in the hope you had found it and locked it back up. I can honestly say I’m not sure I would survive it if I found an escaped snake in my house.

Sexnotgender · 04/01/2021 22:06

You are the gift that keeps on giving @FraggleShingleBellRock 😂

babbafett · 04/01/2021 22:07

@FraggleShingleBellRock I've no words....that's just...Jesus...

ArcherDog · 04/01/2021 22:09

@angelhorror A royal python would not hurt a cat. Most pet ball pythons are small.

Royal Python has escaped!

@FraggleShingleBellRock

I'm in hospital at the moment due to complications with a twin pregnancy - just laughed so hard I might just have gone into labour 🤣🤣

Plus I have an awful habit of talking about the most random inappropriate things whilst on anaesthetic etc so im saving your post in case I start talking to the midwives about Jericho's penis 🤣🤣

Strawberrycreamsundae · 04/01/2021 22:11

@SirVixofVixHall

I read the title and thought - the Queen has a PYTHON ??
I’ve just spluttered my hot chocolate everywhere!! 😂😂

Omg!!! I've never learned so much about animals genitals!
