Royal Python has escaped!

Belvedeer · 04/01/2021 10:00

My daughter’s royal python escaped on New Year’s Eve and is still missing. I followed tips online to search room by room and then sealing the door off if she’s not in there but can’t find her anywhere! I’ve literally ransacked the place, every piece of clothing has been removed and checked even the hanging clothes, every drawer has been removed, I even pulled the fridge freezer out and took the plinths off in the kitchen! We’ve left her viv door open with a mouse inside, tried leaving a hot water bottle with hide on the top next to a mouse at night but still no sign. Does anyone have any other tips of what we can do? I have a distraught 8 year old on my hands!

@Lovemusic33 our dog has a healthy respect for the snake and would probably run away or bark. They both actively dislike and avoid each other. I'm not sure what she'd do if she happened upon the millipede. I actually think she'd be too surprised to hurt it if it was moving

Any sign op?

Belvedeer · 11/01/2021 08:59

BusterTheBulldog · 11/01/2021 23:32

Sorry to hear that @Belvedeer Sad also saw the bbc story and thought of you.

TJ17 · 12/01/2021 07:29

I dreamt I found it last night and we had no where to put it 😂
I was just holding it and worrying it was going to bite me waiting for a response on MN from OP. It was late at night so I couldn't do much and I was telling DH we cannot let it go as it will hide in our house forever 😅😂

How much of the house have you pulled apart? In an upstairs flat my df's huge python got down pipework to downstairs. The screams of Lily told him where to look!! Could you offer a plumber his hourly rate to come have a good look? An interesting job sheet for his CV!

RandomMess · 15/01/2021 17:33

😢

WiseOwlRelaxing · 15/01/2021 18:55

Omg 😢😢
I hope it shows up

MawkishHawk · 15/01/2021 19:58

Oh no, fingers crossed still tho! I just thought of you as I very stupidly almost just let our corn snake escape - I noticed he’d popped the vent out at the back, so opened the viv to replace it, lest he escape.... but then allowed myself to get distracted and not shut the viv after myself! How daft! Half an hour later noticed him slithering along the top of it! Doh!

She must be somewhere keeping warm.

Literally everywhere! I’ve even taken the back off the fridge freezer and pulled the plinths off in the kitchen. After seeing that news article about the guy off corrie I’m thinking she’s gone behind the toilet as it’s next to my daughter’s bedroom but who knows, have no idea how to remove it to check 🤷🏼‍♀️ Problem is she’s a really timid snake and is always hiding in her viv so unlikely to come out of her hiding spot if she hears any noise 🙁

I lost 4 corns once after not quite shutting the door of the glass tank properly. A tiny piece of wood substrate got wedged in the door runners so the door didn't quite shut. It was a couple millimetres!

I realised what had happened when I saw the back end of one vanish under the sofa! When I moved the sofa I found a second. So grabbed them, put them on the tank and hoped/assumed the other 2 were in there. They weren't!

A little while after I realised one had gone into the skirting board behind the sofa. There was a tiny gap in the corner of the room and clearly enough space for a 3' snake to hide! Managed to entice that one out with a warmed up mouse! Got him back in the tank about 6 hours after escape.

No sign of the 4th one though.

Then one Saturday morning about 3 months later, my cat was sat on the fence at the bottom of the garden playfully batting at something on the roof of the shed. Forth snake was inside the roof of the plastic shed! Couldn't get the sod out so rigged up a pair of my daughters leggings as a bag in which to catch the snake. He was mostly out the roof but hung on for dear life! I knew over night he'd probably go cold and release his grip. First thing in the morning I could see from the bedroom window he was in the bottom of the leggings! I'd tied up the ankle so he wouldn't fall right through.

I was sooooo careful after that, never had another escapee! I've heard stories of snakes turning up 12+ months after going missing....I'm sure yours will turn up eventually!

Anyone with a ddog you could borrow? Ours know when we have a dmouse ready for dsnake!

Santaiscovidfree · 15/01/2021 21:50

Just had an idea.... Snakes hear by vibration and ours will wake from sleep if we repeat tap on the tank. They are very curious.

Could you stand with the hoover on room by room with the nozzle on the floor to make vibrations?

Santaiscovidfree · 15/01/2021 21:51

*maybe a bit late tonight but tomorrow? Don't want you being a nuisance ndn!

husbandcallsmepickle · 18/01/2021 13:28

Anyone else wondering if it's turned up yet?!

Mumsnut · 23/01/2021 22:18
