Royal Python has escaped!

Belvedeer · 04/01/2021 10:00

My daughter’s royal python escaped on New Year’s Eve and is still missing. I followed tips online to search room by room and then sealing the door off if she’s not in there but can’t find her anywhere! I’ve literally ransacked the place, every piece of clothing has been removed and checked even the hanging clothes, every drawer has been removed, I even pulled the fridge freezer out and took the plinths off in the kitchen! We’ve left her viv door open with a mouse inside, tried leaving a hot water bottle with hide on the top next to a mouse at night but still no sign. Does anyone have any other tips of what we can do? I have a distraught 8 year old on my hands!
@FraggleShingleBellRock How do you entice a stallion to mount the fake horse?!?
Oh, oh, me Miss, I know this one! 🙋‍♀️

Love all the snake pics.

This thread is taking my mind off of lockdown, though I really hope OP finds her snake soon.

Yes, snakes fart 😂

hiredandsqueak · 05/01/2021 19:19

A friend's snake (about five feet long) was found after three weeks in his neighbour's airing cupboard. Neither of them could work out how he had got there though. Have you asked your neighbours?

And all the snake phobic people on the thread never opened their airing cupboards again...

I found my escapee hiding on the stairs, tucked under the carpet on the upright bit. Lured it out with my sons pet mice 🐁🐀

So sorry OP, this is so upsetting for you. I’m sure your little python will be okay; as you say, she’s probably snuggled up near a pipe and you will find her again in time.

I own 7 snakes and various other exotics. Can confirm snakes absolutely do fart, but it usually happens when they’re doing a poo/wee.

Hilarious example in the attached vid below, but I warn you, it’s RANK, so strongly suggest the squeamish don’t watch. The owner’s retch at the end is perfection.

To off-set the grossness, I’ve included a pic of my little knot of a hognose and my very shy royal python.

I adore my wonderful snakes.

Another vote for a @FraggleShingleBellRock thread with more animal facts.

I wish I hadn't watched that video, @Bobkitten, tbh. Grin

😳😱😭
Shocked, frightened but can’t stop reading... 🙈

Swaddlemeinplants · 05/01/2021 20:55

I’ve read the whole thread and it confirms to me why imo snakes are not pets.
They don’t seem to enjoy human company at all from what I’m reading?
Escaping at the first opportunity for 6 months or more, never once approaching you sounds to me like they don’t actually want to be pets and want to be free.

Nikhedonia · 05/01/2021 20:57

@FraggleShingleBellRock I have so many questions? How do you actually get snakes to mate with one another? I've heard that some people have to 'milk' snakes Shock

Erroneous question mark there, sorry.

The best episode of Pets Factor has a constipated snake in it. The vet literally squeezes the shit out of it like emptying a Frube.

BanningTheWordNaice · 05/01/2021 20:59

First Covid then this. Nononononono.

I'll remind myself of this if I ever have a 'difficult day' at work "Well Nikhedonia, you could be pumping shit out of a snake"

imalmosthere · 05/01/2021 21:03

Jericho's penis, the giant tortoise grabby willy, and the snake shit frube - greatest thread of all time.😂😂

I really hope you find your snake op ❤️

It's not that they want to escape. It's that they don't give a shit where they are as long as there's a dark place and warmth. Food and water as well. Past that, they could be anywhere. They don't care about us at all.

They are great pets. Mostly easy to care for and fun. No smell, no allergies, no noise.

Nikhedonia · 06/01/2021 01:19

What kinds of things can you do with them that's fun? (Genuine question)

I've never understood pets like fish or snakes, they seem to have absolutely zero interest in their owners.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/01/2021 02:12

They're beautiful to look at, interesting behaviour, and holding them is cool. I actually think they are very soothing to hold if you aren't scared.

GhostPepperTears · 06/01/2021 08:08

Goldfish 100% have an interest in their owners - provided their needs are met (so they are healthy). The problem is than 99% of owners don't meet their needs and so keep them in too small a tank, with poor filtration, fed on poor food and with little stimulation. They are burning in their own waste, so are incapable of having much interest in anything beyond the daily misery.

However, keep them in the right environment and they are curious, nosey and friendly little pets in their own way. Each with differing personalities. Albeit, cuddles are out of the question Grin.

Lovemusic33 · 06/01/2021 08:39

Apparently snakes don’t recognise their owners, I have one (corn snake) who comes out of his cave to see me when I look into his viv and one of my pythons comes up to the glass and asks to come out, I’m not sure if they give a shit about me tbh, they could be looking to eat me for all I know 🤣 but I like to think they recognise me and want me to pick them up. The good thing about them is you can leave them in anyone’s care and they won’t notice, you can also leave them alone for a week and go on holiday and they don’t notice you have gone, they only need feeding every 2 weeks but can go months without food.

BeyondThunderdome · 06/01/2021 10:09

Surely no animal meets the requirement for cuddles better than a python - an animal that literally cuddles things to death? 😄

Any luck yet OP?

InsertRudeWord · 06/01/2021 11:27

@MaggieFS

So many questions! Seeing the comment about snakes not making a mess - how & where do they wee or poo? Actually how do all non-mammals do this? OMG do spiders poo!
Yes! You must have seen those tiny circles of poo they leave on window frames etc. 🤢
Nikhedonia · 06/01/2021 11:50

Interesting re: goldfish and snakes.

I didn't realise goldfish were so mistreated it's actually quite sad Sad

I'm not scared of snakes per se, they just creep me out a bit. They look quite sinister.
