Help with our puppys actual breed name...

Mummybear147 · 14/05/2020 16:07

Hi all,
we have just recently got a puppy and although we know the breeds of her parents, I'm not sure what I refer to our new puppys breed as and if there is a proper term for her mixed breed 😂 so her mum is a pug x Boston terrier and her dad is a French bulldog....so what does that make our pup
I know you get french buggs..but she also has abit of boston in her too....I've just been referring to her with calls to the vets ect as a french bulldog cross..bit then I have to go into explaining her breed composition fully... I wanted to know the actual name if there was one to make things clearer...if anyone can help me.
Thanks.

She is a crossbreed and that's it. Truly.

Clymene · 14/05/2020 16:13

Mongrel

CaryStoppins · 14/05/2020 16:13

Sounds like a mongrel?

Smellbellina · 14/05/2020 16:13

I think it might be mongrel?

JonHammIsMyJamm · 14/05/2020 16:13

She’s a crossbreed/mongrel.

Vanadis · 14/05/2020 16:14

I’m not sure there is one. She’s a mixed-breed dog, a mutt, a mongrel.

Artfulblee · 14/05/2020 16:14

The ritual made-up name given to cross breeds is a modern bloody nonsense. Your pup as lovely as she is, is not a breed. She is a lovely crossbreed, just like all the cocker x poodles, Maltese x poodles, etc etc forever and ever and ever. Full stop.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 14/05/2020 16:15

She isn’t a specific ‘breed’, she’s made up of lots of different breeds. Congratulations on your new addition Smile

ForeverBubblegum · 14/05/2020 16:15

Sorry but I'd probably go for mutt.

Surely for her to have a breed then both parents need to be that breed. If it was two different purebred breeds I'd maybe go with x/y cross, but any more is just silly.

caramac04 · 14/05/2020 16:15

The bitch is a crossbreed and her/your pup is a mongrel.

Artfulblee · 14/05/2020 16:15

If you insist on giving her name, why not TinselSparkleMoon hound to be different.

StormBaby · 14/05/2020 16:16

Mongrel. Which means your insurance will be cheaper.

GrimmsFairytales · 14/05/2020 16:16

The bitch is a crossbreed and her/your pup is a mongrel.

This pretty much sums up what I was going to post.

midnightstar66 · 14/05/2020 16:16

I think once you throw in a 3rd breed you can't even apply a made up catchy hybrid name. Sounds like a breathing issue waiting to happen though 😬

maxelly · 14/05/2020 16:16

Yes there's no official breed name, even the more established crosses which have been going for generations like labradoodles haven't got 'official' kennel club recognition yet. You can say she's a pink elephant or a siberian wolfhound if you like, no-one is going to arrest you but they might think you are mad Grin

Seriously if asked I would do as you have been doing, say French bulldog cross, if it's the vets or someone who has a particular reason for needing to know exactly then tell them?

Ginswin · 14/05/2020 16:16

She's not and never will be a breed....arghhhhhh....drives me mad!!

carolebaskinsheadband · 14/05/2020 16:16

As the owner of one of those breeds, for god sake get insurance! Grin

HairOfTheFrog · 14/05/2020 16:17

Mutt Smile

Clymene · 14/05/2020 16:18

Having said that, probably best to tell the vet she's a mix of brachy cross breeds because as I'm sure you know there can be health issues with brachy dogs.

midnightstar66 · 14/05/2020 16:19

To add, you will need to explain the parentage each time rather than just say cross breed to the vet though as it could be very relevant for them.

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 14/05/2020 16:20

I wanted to know the actual name if there was one to make things clearer.

Calling her a 'French Boston bugg' or something isn't going to be clearer than 'french bulldog, Boston terrier, pug mix'.

She's a mongrel. If the breed breakdown is necessary for specific health issues which will be very likely, then give the particular breakdown. If it isn't, then she's a just a mutt/mix/mongrel and that's fine. There's no need for a fancy name.

Congratulations on your puppy!

Carolduckingbaskin · 14/05/2020 16:20

Pug bull terrier?

I have a cross between a Maltese and a shihtzu - there’s not really a name for it - so I call him a malshit Grin

JonHammIsMyJamm · 14/05/2020 16:21

I’m a gun dog person but that strikes me as a spectacularly unwise mix

BlueGheko · 14/05/2020 16:23

A walking vets bill, that's what. Best get some shit hot insurance policy, you'll need it.

maxelly · 14/05/2020 16:24

Well to be fair Ginswin, and without wishing to ignite a huge debate (dons hard hat) quite a lot if not all of the 'official' KC breeds were originally crosses, e.g. the french bulldog itself, now a 'proper' breed, was originally a normal 'english' type bulldog crossed with terrier types to get a smaller 'toy' type dog that could be a lapdog, this was hundreds of years ago of course, it takes a long time for a new breed to be recognised but I wouldn't be surprised if in our lifetime the KCs of the world bowed to pressure and started to recognise some of the 'poo' crosses as 'proper' breeds, obviously this will only happen once people have stopped using F1 and F2 crosses (ie first and second generation crosses) and actually start breeding like with like to enhance the desirable characteristics of the 'breed' and (hopefully) eliminate health and behavioural problems, although when you look at the abominations of some of the 'pure' breeds that have been recognised by KC for generations and bred to represent the archetype of their breed, some of which feature in OP's pup's pedigree, you do wonder how much of a good thing this is!?
