Help with our puppys actual breed name...

Mummybear147 · 14/05/2020 16:07

Hi all,
we have just recently got a puppy and although we know the breeds of her parents, I'm not sure what I refer to our new puppys breed as and if there is a proper term for her mixed breed 😂 so her mum is a pug x Boston terrier and her dad is a French bulldog....so what does that make our pup
I know you get french buggs..but she also has abit of boston in her too....I've just been referring to her with calls to the vets ect as a french bulldog cross..bit then I have to go into explaining her breed composition fully... I wanted to know the actual name if there was one to make things clearer...if anyone can help me.
Thanks.

that strikes me as a spectacularly unwise mix

It's a very irresponsible mix, but I suspect one that came with a stupidly high price tag.

TinySleepThief · 14/05/2020 16:24

Shes a mongrel.

that strikes me as a spectacularly unwise mix

I'm glad its not just me who had this thought when reading the combination.

chunkyrun · 14/05/2020 16:28

I just can't understand spending so much money on a dog that can't even breath. Nothing against the dogs but the people who fuel this trade and breeders

Gin4thewin · 14/05/2020 16:28

2 breeds is a cross breed, anything more is a mongrel.

DanniArthur · 14/05/2020 16:31

I'm sorry but what on earth did you expect the response to be? I know alot of people give crossbreed's ridiculous names to try and make them worth a fortune but your dog is clearly a mongrel.

FelicityBeedle · 14/05/2020 16:37

I know nothing about dogs, I’m curious why is it an unwise mix? Breathing issues?

midnightstar66 · 14/05/2020 16:40

French bulldogs often have severe breathing issues, Boston terriers too although they are smaller and lighter so aren't always affected so badly. Pugs can barely function as a dog so to put the 3 together is crazy. Depending what the bitch was it could also be a welfare issue of a small dog carrying a large and big headed dog

Windyatthebeach · 14/05/2020 16:43

Heinz 57...

maxelly · 14/05/2020 16:43

Yep Felicity, all three of the breeds OP mentions have problems breathing due to their squashed faces (pugs and bulldogs in particular have a very distinctive grunting 'snore' sound to their breath), and subsequently can have heart and lung issues that require expensive medical correction and/or lead to reduced lifespan or poor quality of life with the dog not being able to run. This would be the case with a purebred pug or frenchie or boston as well, but you might stand a very narrow chance of finding a breeder of one of those breeds who really cares about preserving the breed and eradicating the issues they face and so may be trying to breed a better pug. whereas the suspicion with the fashionable crosses is that at best a backyard breeder who fancies making a quick buck has bred their pet cross breed to the local frenchie without much thought to the health of the resulting pups, and at worst its a puppy farm churning out 10 litters a month in horrible conditions.

Sorry OP, I know you wouldn't have been wanting to hear this but MN notoriously hates crossbreeds at the best of times for the above reason, and particularly the crossing of already unhealthy breeds so you were bound to get a flaming from the start...

SoupDragon · 14/05/2020 16:46

She's just a crossbreed/mongrel.

The made up names are useful when there are only two breeds in the mix but it is pointless beyond that.

KitchenConfidential · 14/05/2020 16:49

No one who cares about dogs would cross two breeds with such huge health, particularly breathing, problems.
Good luck getting insurance.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 14/05/2020 16:51

Why on earth breed three squashed face big headed dogs together, the mind boggles.

Polkadotties · 14/05/2020 16:52

Stupid breeding, puppies are most likely being sold for ridiculous amounts of money.

OP you have a mongrel

TinySleepThief · 14/05/2020 16:54

No they wouldn't the only people who would are those who care about how much money they can make from selling puppies. I would be very surprised if the poor pup didn't come from a puppy farm. Sad

TheDogsMother · 14/05/2020 16:56

Sorry to slightly derail but I've always wanted to have a Jack Russell/Shitzu cross Grin

NaToth · 14/05/2020 16:58

@TheDogsMother Wink

There.

And the bitch the significantly smaller of the 2 as well. No way a dainty Boston crossed with a pug which is also far smaller than a Frenchie could give birth naturally to those pups 😔

caramac04 · 14/05/2020 17:41

@midnightstar66 you’re right, how horrible and sad

Clymene · 14/05/2020 17:45

@midnightstar66 - my dog is a Boston. He's 10.5 kgs and much taller than a Frenchie and he's fairly typical of the breed (breed standard anyway). His mum (champion) is also bigger. She gave birth to 6 puppies naturally

French bulldogs and pugs can't swim, Bostons can.

midnightstar66 · 14/05/2020 17:56

For a start he's a he - the males are typically larger, my best friend has Boston bitches and they are all tiny, but the entire make up of the breed does not allow for a huge Frenchie head and shoulders to come out if they take size from the dad. He might be taller but he'll definitely be slimmer but totally differently built - that's why they can swim, a far more atheistic build. They are a terrier after all. Do you think it's an acceptable cross @Clymene

WinWinnieTheWay · 14/05/2020 18:00

She's a Bitza.

Bits of this and that.

Clymene · 14/05/2020 18:09

I meant my dog's mum is also quite big (in breed standards they're heavyweight) - they are only dainty in relation to frenchies. I wouldn't describe my dog or any of his immediate family as dainty - even the bitches! But yes, I agree with you, not an ideal mix.

I had thought it was an accidental breeding but I'm probably being naive

Shmithecat2 · 14/05/2020 18:15

@FelicityBeedle
Brachycephalic breeds can have major issues because of their flat faces. Mixing a load altogether (and I'm willing to eat my hat if any of them have had health tests prior to breeding) is simply cruel and indulgent. Buying one isn't much better. Ignorant rather than cruel, but still indulgent.

redbigbananafeet · 14/05/2020 18:26

It's a mongrel. Please don't be expecting it to have a faux designer name Hmm
