Tell me about your pet’s most annoying habits

We have a 3 yr old cat and although we love him dearly he can be a right muppet at times. His choice habits include:

  • licking the butter dish if we forget to lock it away in the cupboard
  • sitting on the neighbours conservatory glass roof proudly displaying his arse and ‘vanity balls’ to the poor inhabitants below
  • biting our toes under the bed clothes
  • siting on my sewing / laptop etc
  • perching on the bath when I’m in it and often falling in resulting in multiple scratches as he attempts to scrabble out!
  • releasing death farts (only occasionally but they are horribly surprising when he does!)

What endearing habits do your rascals have? Grin

'vanity balls'???

kemosabeimalone · 22/01/2020 15:05

Yes - he has these little empty ball sacs that look like they have been left on for show! When we first got him it freaked me out a bit as I thought he wasn’t neutered!

That made me laugh about sitting on your neighbours glass roof.

If my dog gets upstairs she jumps on our bed and rubs herself all over my DH's pillow. Never touches mine. Why is this?

RIBlue · 22/01/2020 15:15

Sitting next to me isn’t close enough, sitting on me is better but sitting on me pinning down all my limbs and pressed against my face is perfect. He weighs 20kg.

He does ‘quiet woofing’ whereby he knows he shouldn’t be making any noise I.e he’s woken up but it’s still only 5am but he does want us to know he’s awake just in case we wanted to let him upstairs early. It sounds uncannily like a human conversationally saying the word woof and was a bit disconcerting when he was initially honing this approach.

Our cat likes to sit in the middle of the living room, spread his legs and start pulling his nipples with his teeth. You can hear them pinging back into place when he lets go. Smile

I have one cat that eats my sofa. When she's happy, purring and kneading, she's will start to bite and chew at the fabric of the sofa - she pulls little bits off to eat.

One other cat will stand and scrabble at my bedroom door when she wants feeding at 5am.

kemosabeimalone · 22/01/2020 15:28

Who feeds him Margot - You I’m guessing. Fickle little felines! Grin

If I or DH don't give my three cheeky (and fat) chickens some type of treat first thing in the morning, they'll jump up onto the kitchen window box, and tap the window until one of us relents.

kemosabeimalone · 22/01/2020 15:34

Sorry Margot I mean ‘cupboard love canines’- I hope she is not too insulted by my feline faux pas!

Eats only the jelly or gravy on his food, leaving a growing pile of "chunks" as the day goes on.

Makes a "phhhhh" noise if he thinks it's morning and I'm still asleep. He sits by the side of the bed and gradually works up to a meow by increasing the volume of his sighs until I can't ignore him anymore.

Yowls at the top of his voice if I start singing. Yes, I know it's not great but you're really not helping!

Nixee2231 · 22/01/2020 15:38

My dog licks everything under the sun. I have to regularly stop him from randomly sitting down and licking the floor, or the couch, or my legs. Confused

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2020 15:40

Cheddar does the biggest smelliest pops ever, and doesn't bury them. Usually after I've just cleaned out the litter tray.
Magic on the other hand has no faults at all!

kemosabeimalone · 22/01/2020 15:41

Nixee- you just reminded me, Mr Monty licks the floor if it’s just been cleaned with bleach - I literally have to lock him out of the bathroom if it’s just been done! No idea what he gets out of that one!

My dog refuses to sleep in her bed. She goes in DS’s room and sleeps in his play tent. If we go out she retreats to the tent. Shutting the bedroom door doesn’t keep her out - she hurls herself at it and scratches until she gets in. She refuses to vacate when DS wants to play in the tent. I’m fairly certain she thinks it’s her tent.

BoomyBooms · 22/01/2020 15:45

The snoring... Oh wow, the snoring. Louder than any man I have ever heard. Especially likes to do it in my bed when I am trying to sleep, and then express great disgruntled moans ('hmmmmmmuh!' 'uuuuuuuuurh!') if I have the audacity to rouse him.

BoomyBooms · 22/01/2020 15:47

Oh and the times he coyly approaches acting all happy and cute like he wants a cuddle, only to lap up a bit of fuss and then decide that I must be rewarded by him plonking himself down with his bum 2cm from my face.

CatUnderTheStairs · 22/01/2020 15:49

I remember reading on here about someone who had 2 collies who every night at 10pm would 'herd' the family and anyone visiting to bed as that was bedtime. And the family would creep back downstairs once the dogs had gone to bed.

Nixee2231 · 23/01/2020 23:03

Oh also when I'm cleaning parts of my gerbils' cage, the second I turn my back they immediately run on the clean part and poop and pee. If I move them off the clean part, they will run back over to it 30 times if they have to until they've "tested" and approved it.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/01/2020 13:13

Much as I love Sybil she does insist on disabling me by taking over my shoulder and arm (and purring her head off) whenever I'm trying to use the laptop. How can I use a keyboard with this attached?

The dog doesn't really have any at all, she's such a good dog.

The cat is a bit of an arsehole.

  • counter surfing
  • stealing off people's plates/hands
  • scratching the back door
  • scratching the bed
  • chewing my houseplants
  • peeing on any synthetic rug I buy
  • chewing the pockets out of all my cardigans/jackets/coats that have had dog biscuits in
  • eating the oats I put out for the birds
Fluffycloudland77 · 30/01/2020 21:15

We had a Bengal too op & he suddenly developed a butter-dar so I think he’d had a lick of the lurpak. He’d only eat lurpak, any other brand he’d walk off.
