Lost both my dogs last year - one aged 8 in January (he was never going to live to a ripe old age, bless him) and the other 14 year old in November. I loved my dogs to bits, and was devastated to lose them. I swore NO MORE DOGS. You get too attached and they don't live long enough, plus I like to get away and having to factor in a dog can be a problem.

But then.......

A friend's bitch has a litter of 7, and they are gorgeous. Terriers (naturally - I just love terriers) and DD1 has been pestering me. I can feel myself caving in and remembering the fun we have had with our own wee beasts; a bit of me really wants one of these pups, but I keep reminding myself of why I pledged not to have another.

Talk some sense into me, please!

Don't be daft, you know you want one - or preferably two!

Better to have loved and lost than never loved at all

I keep saying I will never have another dog. I have a 14 year old Yorkie and I know he won't be around much longer. He drives me mad with his scavenging and with any accidents he has around the house (the last 3 mornings in a row but who's counting?!)

But, I know I will want another one when he does go. Hope you can come to a sensible decision.

Puppies do smell lovely.

Actual dogs are vile, though.

These are asleep in a bundle ATM. I keep hearing lttle squeaks from them (I'm babysitting them)

Actually, I think my being asked to babysit was a cunning ploy to get me to crumble completely.

That's what I love about puppies. How they sleep in a bundle and squeak in their sleep.

And their smell.

I was dragged to a nasty dog re-homing centre the other day by the ILs and the one good thing was a litter of Lab/terrier puppies, 16 weeks old.

Aw!

Of course, DD1, lover of all animals with a penchant for smelly livestock like horses, cows and goats, was thrilled. Her toes were curling in delight.

Too bad they grow up into stinky dogs .

puppies smell weird,I think - a strange smell !

Puppies are lovely but our puppy smelt so bad when we first brought him home that dd (2) retched when she smelt him! He was fine but was one of a litter of 10 and did smell pretty strongly of wee! A good bath and he had that lovely puppy smell again. Dogs are a tie but you get so much from them we'd never be without one, what sort of terriers are they?
