he swims up to me when I swivel the gravel

he keeps trying to knock the air bubble Spongebob thing over by tunnelling under it

he wiggles up the glass and slips off then goes and hides behind a plant in a sort of mortified way

he a funny fish .. I'm really rather enamoured

Twiglett · 05/06/2007 15:16

I dunno .. he's a small brown sucky fish

Greensleeves · 05/06/2007 15:31

sounds like a loach maybe?

Does he have a name?

Twiglett · 05/06/2007 15:45

Stroo · 05/06/2007 17:22

Is he a placostamus (sp?) - does he look a bit like the 'bishop' chess peice when stuck to the glass?

If so, i love them too!

Twiglett · 05/06/2007 17:25

Stroo pats herself on the back!

They can grow huge - a friend had one called Jeff that he kept in a big tank on his own - he's about 8 inches long now!

Twiglett · 05/06/2007 17:32

oh don't tell me that he's in a small tank with guppies and minnows .. he's about 3 inches long atm .. I would like him to stay that size

OP posts:
Stroo · 05/06/2007 17:34

Don't worry - they only grow as big as the tank will allow!

They are natures hoovers and very sweet!

kittylette · 05/06/2007 17:36

my granny had one of these for years, he got quite big,

he was lovely too

VerySensibleKbear · 05/06/2007 17:40

I want a sucky-fish. Do they like living with goldfish? I want one now.

(You didn't kill them then Twig )!

PersonalClown · 05/06/2007 17:43

I had one of those when I was a kid in my dads aquarium! He was huge when he died.
I think he was just under a foot at the end. When I have the money, I will be getting another!

PersonalClown · 05/06/2007 17:43

I ment a foot in length. my dad did have a massive tank!

Twiglett · 05/06/2007 17:52

I believe they do live with goldfish

but as I have now owned fish for a week .. and they went straight in an un-cycled aquarium I am the last person to ask

they are all still very much alive .. I am changing 10-15% water every day and 50% once a week for a couple of weeks so hopefully they'll be ok

I don't care if they all die as long as sucky-fish lives tbh

i have a suckyfish too, they are fab fish. Mine is about 7ins long now

wannaBe · 05/06/2007 17:59

no. it's a mith that fish only grow as big as the tank will allow. dh now somewhat of a guru on these matters as has huuuuge aquarium in lounge.. but if he's only little then it will take time for him to grow...

Air bubble Spongebob???!!!!

My ds would love that. We only have a little Spongebob in our aquarium and were going to try and get a Gary to keep him company but didn't know you could get an air bubble one .

Oh and we also have a sucky fish. A mad thing that zooms up and down the glass for no reason and then goes and hides for hours so that I start worrying he is dead or trapped or something. I found him wedged behind the filter the other day and feared the worst but he was just teasing .

VerySensibleKbear · 05/06/2007 23:15

do I honestly go in and ask for a sucky fish or does it have a proper name... like George or something

MaureenMLove · 05/06/2007 23:31

Surely your son would know the real name of a sucky-fish! Although I like the sound of a Gary - whats one of those or is that his name?

MaureenMLove · 05/06/2007 23:33

{note to self - read whole thread and not just every other word) Gary is something in Spongebob isn't it? I'd still like one to keep me company!

I'd love a Gary to keep me company.

ooh Maureen.....

sparklygothkat · 05/06/2007 23:36

its a Plecostomus or a Pleco, but ours is called suckyfish

VerySensibleKbear · 05/06/2007 23:37

Just read the thread properly, it's a Plecostomus. I think sucky-fish is better. Gary the sucky-fish.

MaureenMLove · 05/06/2007 23:38

Stop it!
